Just a few shots of the new Laura Mercier Tightline Cake Liner in Deep Teal ($22) from the new Cinema Noir collection.
I used Laura’s Flat Liner Brush ($22) to apply.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. How do you know when your cat has been using your computer?
(ANSWER: When your mouse has teeth marks on it!)
Ruchita says
I have this in black, but I’m really digging the teal. Sonia Kashuk has a similiar flat eye liner blush that I found at Target last year and it works great!
Karen says
Hi Ruchita,
I haven’t tried Sonia’s Flat Eye Liner yet. I’ll have to make a note to pick it up! Have you tried her Bent Brush? It’s awesome.
Ruchita says
I don’t have the Bent Brush, but I do remember you posting about it before. I will make sure to add it to my list.
Karen says
It’s really great for super skinny lines. It’s also very soft, which I love. 🙂
I’m so picky about my flat brushes…does your SK do the thing where the bristles separate after it gets wet? My MAC one used to do that, which is why I ditched it.
Ruchita says
The SK one has really stiff bristles that stay in place. I just washed it the other day and it still kept its shape.
Karen says
Ok, cool. It looks like I’ll have to make a Target stop for that brush and the smudger brush than Shannon recommends below. LOL, not that I need more brushes…they’re just so nice to have!
Nina says
That teal is so gorgeous on you!
Karen says
Thanks girlfriend! BTW, did you snag some MAC Heavenly Creatures this morning?
Nina says
Yes ma’am. Yesterday afternoon, actually.
Got 4 of the MSFs. Short, but sweet!
Now im haunting maccosmetics.com for a tracking number. 🙂
Karen says
I just KNEW you’d get those, LOL!
I put a whole bunch of stuff in my cart, but I didn’t pull the trigger.
Nina says
I kept on looking at those mineralized blushes and eyeshadows but I know id never use them since they make my eyelids/cheeks itch so … MSFs it was!
I *think* I might get the Charged Water Cleanser though. I need to change my makeup remover and it seems like a nice alternative!
Ankita@corallista says
You’ve winged it out perfectly! Never used cake liners before, do you prefer these over gel liners?
Karen says
Hi Ankita,
I like both. 🙂 To be honest, it really depends on what’s within reach. I think cake liners offer slightly more control, and they make it easy to get that nice wing at the end.
Chris25 says
Looks a little like MAC Midnight Blues fluidline. I like it! 🙂
I don’t know if you read the Monday Poll from last week, but my boyfriend and I broke up two weeks ago. I moved back in with family, and they won’t let me keep my cats. 🙁 I have to find a temporary home for them.
If anyone in the NYC area can foster 2 cats, or knows someone who can, contact me. Just click on my blog link (my name) and leave a comment.
Karen says
Hi Chris,
I’m so sorry to hear about your breakup. 🙁 Have you found any leads yet for temporary homes?
Soo Jin says
oOh, I’m really digging the teal! I usually stick with blacks and browns but I could definitely go for this one! 🙂 Thanks for sharing Karen!
Karen says
Hi Soo Jin,
I know what you mean. Sometimes I get stuck in a rut of regular liner colors. This teal should add some spice to your lineup!
Have you worn cake liners before? They’re really great.
Marian says

Hahaaaaaa! You slay me!
Karen says
LOL, Marian! What can I say? I do love me some cheesy jokes. 🙂
Hope you had a great Tuesday.
Becca says
Such a grown-up teal! Love it.
Karen says
True that, Becca! Laura always seems to find a way to make edgier colors like teal sophisticated. 🙂
Have you tried her cake liners yet? AMAZING!
Shannon says
What a lovely, lovely color! I might have to look into that…
Karen, have you tried the Sonia Kashuk Smudge Brush for tightlining? I really like it – I feel like it packs on the color really well.
Karen says
Hi Shannon,
I hope you do! If you don’t have a go-to teal yet, then this will be your new fave. 🙂
Thanks for showing me the SK Smudge Brush. I haven’t tried it yet! How are the bristles? Are they nice and soft?
Shannon says
The bristles aren’t bad, but I have noticed that they have started to get a bit more pokey than they were initially (I probably bought it about a year ago).
Karen says
Hmm. Well, for the price that’s still not too bad at all! Please tell me you already have Sonia’s bent brush…
Crystal says
I just got a new black liner since I used up the old one. I love that teal its just dark enough to make me happy!
Karen says
Hi Crystal,
I know what you mean. Sometimes I feel like I really have to pack the teal on to see it. This one has so much intensity! It should look great on your skin.
Have you tried Laura cake liners before? They’re kind of amazing!
Crystal says
I’ve only used the black before. I gotta branch out! LOL:)
Karen says
How funny, I most often use her non-standard colors like purple, blue, etc. That black shade is great though! Especially on the waterline. What brush do you use to apply?
gio says
What a beautiful shade, love it!
Karen says
Hi Gio,
I love it too! It’s a very unusual teal. 🙂
Rads says
Hi Karen 🙂 Love the color on you! I have never tried cake liners..don’t know why but I always felt I won’t get a proper line with it 😐
Karen says
Hi Rads,
I’ve noticed that certain brushes seem to help. What brush are you currently using with your cake liners?
Becca @ The Beauty Sample says
That’s it, I think I’m going to have to grab one of the cake liners now. I’ve been curious about them for a while–but I have been using MUFE’s Aqua Black cream shadow to tightline and have been happy with it, so I hadn’t given in…until now. I just hope it will be as dark at my lashline as the Aqua Black
Karen says
Hi Becca,
I’ve been wondering about that MUFE shadow! How does it handle the waterline? Does it last all day?
mishel says
hope ur feeling better karen. i hope u know ur blog is a staple and it’s safe to say us readers have been thinking of u!
i came to ur blog hoping for some swatches/info on mac’s heavenly creature collection. i put in a spaztic order this morning but have no idea what they will look like in person. will u be posting about the collection soon? =)
Karen says
Thanks, Mishel. 🙂
I’ll have some stuff on Heavenly Creature later this week, hopefully. What did you end up getting?
Mara says
W-o-w! that color is absolutely gorgeous. It looks nice enough in the pan, but the swatch and on the eyes it is just stunning! T
Karen says
Hi Mara,
Isn’t it so pretty? It’s like a grown-up teal. Please tell me you’ve tried Laura’s Cake Liners before…
musical says
Lovely color and love how you applied it! Perfection! I am tempted to pick this one up–(Is there anything like too much teal eyeliner?)
Karen says
It’s like ice cream — you can never have enough. 😉
musical says
NEED some ice-cream in my life! I’m thinking cherry or burnt caramel ;). What are your favorite flavors?
Karen says
I’m usually a dulce de leche girl. Lately I’ve been loving on Lemon Cookie by a brand called Three Twins. Do you live near a Whole Foods? They carry it there…it’s so good. 🙂
Lulle says
The shade is just gorgeous! I don’t know this product, is it cream? Or powder to be used wet?
Karen says
Hi Lulle,
It’s a powder that you apply with a wet brush. I usually use MAC Fix+. You can wear it on both lash and waterlines! 🙂
Natasha says
LOVE, love, love that teal! It is an awesome color on you… and would probably suit me, too… actually, is there any coloring that teal doesn’t suit?
I know my cat’s been on the computer again when cases of wet food show up from Amazon.com…

LOL! Cute joke 😀
artemis says
very pretty on you 😀
Kim says
This looks great on you but the thought of doing that is making my eyes water. I have enough trouble on the few occasions that I tightline with a pencil. I can’t imagine the eye trauma if I tried it with a brush. Must stop thinking about it. Tearing up. 🙂
