Those double Cs, man! They get me every time.
I’ve drooled over and chased after Chanel for… I don’t even know how long! Years and years. It’s one of my favorite beauty brands (and fashion and accessories, etc.) of all time.
Makeup-wise, their permanent collection is huge and daunting. At their counters, there’s a LOT of great stuff to play with and look at, and between the lipsticks, glosses, eyeshadows, blushes and more it can be overwhelming.
So where do you start? Hopefully this episode of The Fab Five gives you some ideas. It might even spark a lifelong love affair with Chanel, oui, oui! 🙂
I wear these five pieces almost daily. They’re the products I find myself grabbing over and over again.
The Fab 5, Vol. 8: Chanel (probably part one of two, haha)
- Chanel Poudre Universelle Libre Natural Finish Loose Powder ($52)
- Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof Eyeliner in 88 Noir Intense ($32)
- Chanel Joues Contraste Powder Blush in Malice ($45)
- Le Volume de Chanel Mascara ($32)
- Chanel Quadra Les 4 Ombres Eyeshadow in Tisse Rivoli ($61)

Hi Karen,
Great review. My best Chanel product of all times issssss: waterproof eyeliner in Espresso (#20), I line my upper waterline with it every-single-day. Now, there is another one that comes and goes, right now is discontinued is GRENAT (#85), I used to line my upper lids with it also every-single-day, and now I cry every-single-day because I cannot find it anymore. It is a plummy brown, and it bring up (i hope that is how you are supposed to say) my hazel eyes. Now I use Cassis…but is not the same, texture and finish is totally different. As you can see I am in love with the Chanel waterproof eyeliners, there are the only products from the line I buy and FINISH. I bought Santal recently, but didn’t know how to use it!!!!! now I know, I am going to do what you do.
About the powder, so you use it as foundation???? I don’t wear foundation. I know I need it but I’m lazy. I am the kind of liner, mascara, BLUSH kind of person. We have the same skin color, which number should I be looking for? for the powder, or any other recommendation…
Thanks Karen, I am loving your videos!!!!!!!!

Hi Karen
Love your blog/videos, so informative 🙂
Well, I recently bought universal bronzer from Chanel I’ve been loving since. It’s just something that makes my face look so good and now in the summer months I’ve been using almost every day.
Because of the price I don’t have too many product of Chanel but I also like the face cream Le lift , really nice product.
Please do the second part of Chanel, can’t wait 🙂
Thank you
Bebe

Hi Karen – I have to tell you that the Very First post I read on MBB was your stellar review of the Rouge Coco lipsticks. I ordered Mademoiselle online based entirely on the posts, and I’m hooked on this lipstick – and I was not a lipstick fan because of sensitivity issues, but Chanel is perfect for me. I also have a couple of the Rouge Coco Shine, and those are great for a more sheer finish – my fave is Monte Carlo.
Also have a single eyeshadow – ombré Essentielle in Safari, a beautiful base neutral.
My next Chanel purchase will be the eyeliner you just reviewed, and Oh, also the blush- in a lighter color.
Thanks for your blog, I’ve learned so much!

I love your fab 5 posts because they showcase products that may be overlooked. I’m a fan of Chanel Velvet Matte foundation and recently got hooked on the limited edition healthy glow sheer colour stick in no 20. I also agree that you can spend hours at their counters. Lots of fun but bad for the wallet.

Hi Karen and Tabs,
Love the review!!! I just got the mascara! It is the BOMB!!! It is everything that you said, and MORE!!! I love it and can’t wait to try more products from your reviews… when and if I can ever afford it! Now I’m hooked, fortunately I do like one of MAC’s mascara’s too so I can save the Chanel for special looks, but thanks so much for your advice! It makes me feel so special and pampered!!!!

Haha, I love the little Chanelgasm in your intro 😉 Great picks! I love how big the jar of the loose powder is. More powder, MOAR! The eyeliners sound really incredible, I can’t believe I haven’t tried them yet.

Chanel is one of my favorite beauty brands, too. Their products I like the most are Les Beiges bronzers and cream blushes.

I don’t have anything Chanel…thats fine with me. Nothing against it, I’m sure it is fabulous, but I can leave it.

Hey fellow June 9 Gemini 🙂
My Chanel fab 5’s are:-
Glossimer in Giggle – such a perfect shade.
Ombre d’eau eyeshadow in Shore… Gorgeous gorgeous silvery pink watery cream which you have to shake… No longer available so I’m savouring every drop.
Loose Powder in shade Natural – the only other powder I love besides Ben Nye Luxury powder in Buff.
Eyeshadow quad in Raffinement – it’s quite similar to the quad that you picked and it really enhances my green eyes.
Lastly I can’t pick between rouge coco shine in bonheur, aqualumiere gloss in candy glow, nail varnish in steel or perfection lumiere foundation so I’ll have all four ?
I have many others too but that will do for now ?

Wonderful video and I LOVE your fab 5 series! That loose powder has been on my wishlist for so long, I need to check it out in store soon. Malice and I go on frequent breaks, it looks beautiful at times, but too red the others. I need to bring it out and experiment more :).

Great video! I got Chanel Malice over the summer thanks to your suggestion 🙂 I love it! I’m wearing it right now and it gives me that perfect peachy glow. I think peaches work better on me than pinks (but that does not stop me from getting them 🙂 I’m going to have check out the intense eyeliner. I do like the mascara, but Diorshow is my favorite (easiest for me to use). Love Chanel!

I brought Chanel Le Volume mascara after reading your reviews. And I love it! Its’s my favorite for over the top volume and also great for everyday wear. Don’t know why I had a bad experience with a Chanel eyeliner fading and poor pigmentation. It was a long time ago and I think I had a bronze or purple shade that I ended up returning. But I’m going to check 88 Noir out asap!

Great picks! That eyeliner sounds incredible. Definitely must check it out next time I visit their counter.

Love Chanel! And I love the SA/MA who works at my local Nordie’s Chanel counter too, she is such a lovely person through and through.
Favorite products…
1)Le Volume de Chanel mascara, the waterproof version. If it isn’t waterproof, it smudges on me.
2)Stylo Yeux in Santal. For some reason I thought this was a LE. So happy to hear that it is not, because I cracked mine off twice trying to sharpen it the other day. I think it may have been too warm and I wasn’t thinking.
3)Joues Contraste in Rose Ecrin and Innocence.
4) Les 4 Ombres Poesie. It was a toss up between this one and Tisse Rivoli. But since Rivoli is permanent, I decided to get the LE Poesie.
5) Rouge Coco Shines, in too many colors to count. Love these.
6) Hydra Beauty Micro Serum. Yeah, it’s expensive, but I felt like splurging and I love the moisture it adds to my skin.

Le Volume is a fave of mine too! It’s the only mascara my husband compliments!

So much to love from Chanel!

My ride or die Chanel faves are:
Vitalumiere Loose Foundation Powder
Illusion D’Ombre in Mirifique
Lift Lumiere Foundation
Misia Lippie
And the newest LE Stylo in that khaki colour, mmm:)
Love your fab five! I’ve been meaning to pick up Malice for ages!
Jen says
Great list, Karen! You’re really selling me on Malice and Tisse Rivoli would definitely make it to my list as well! Other picks from me would be the Perfection Lumiere Velvet foundation, Joues Contraste in Frivole, Rouge Coco Shine in Aventure, and their Holiday nail polish. But I could also probably generate a Volume 2 (and 3!) of faves as well! 🙂

Chanel <3. I've never purchased their blush or eyeshadows but man, the finish is so elegant. Not too glittery or metallic, just very refined.

Oh dear do I love my Chanel! My mother got me hooked (and hooked me up!) when I was in college. I’m currently in love with the limited edition blush from last year- Camilla. So pretty on the cheeks and the embossed double color just made me giddy with joy! I also love the Perfection Lumiere foundation, Tisse Camilla eye shadow quad, and most of the Glossimers.
Melanie says
Hi Karen,
I have a weakness for Chanel, too. I had a question about the Tissé quads. I find that they are really a challenge to blend. Wherever the brush touches down, that’s where the product stays. Any tips? I really want to be able to use these as I cannot wear talc anymore.
Thanks!
