Does your Target have a produce section? Isn’t that the most convenient thing ever? I was at ours yesterday, allegedly there to buy grapes, when I ran into the Boots No. 7 limited edition Opulence Eye Palette ($10).
It comes with five powder eyeshadows (four shimmers and one matte) in shades of gold, brown, navy, beige and black. The colors, Boots says, were inspired by Russian Tsarinas and the 1980s, because, ya know, those two things totally go together so well. 🙂
How would you wear this palette? I’m thinking a day look using the navy on the lid and the brown along the lower lash line, hmm…
I hope your week got off to a good start today. Was it drama free?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
Jenn says
Hey, it looks like a face. 🙂
Karen says
LOL… it does!
BlovetBeauty says
funny looking palette!
Karen says
It’s kinda funky, but I like the colors.
Nikolas says
That looks like a cute palette 🙂 Maybe it’d be a convenient day to night palette… I’ve never found drug store shadows I liked though… How’s the pigmentation?
Karen says
It’s pretty good for drugstore! If you want lots of concentrated color you’ll probably have to apply the shades wet.
gio says
That’s a lovely palette. The colors are very pretty!
Karen says
I like them, too, especially the blue!
Anna says
That palette was created by my favourite make-up artist in the whole world Lisa Eldridge 🙂 🙂 Amazing make-up artist 🙂
Karen says
Hi Anna,
That makes this palette *that* much cooler!
Mary says
I love Lisa Eldridge too!!!
Vonvon says
Wow! rather unusual design for an eye palette.
Gotta check out the Boots here. But the price is gonna be in British pounds and that’s gonna cost a lot more than in the US *sigh….
Karen says
Do you guys get lots Boots LE stuff on your end?
Kim says
I like the geometric package graphics – which I think may tie in more with the 80s than Tsarinas, but I’m no expert on Russian royalty. Russian hockey players, on the other hand… 🙂
You know I’m boring, so I’d most likely stick to the brown/beige daytime look.
Karen says
You’re so funny!
Kinda random, but this is the second time hockey’s come up on the blog in the last two days. 🙂
And you are NOT boring! I applaud you for taking risks with color!
Kim says
I was guilty of another one too (one of your guest posters was Russian AND lived in Baltimore, which is close enough to DC for me!). Ooh, I’ll be excited if there is another hockey fan!
The season starts on Friday so it’s more top-of-mind than usual. I think our ice goes in next week so I’m pretty excited. My ACL is a bit nervous though. Old + kids = weak knee ligaments. Sigh. 🙂
Nina says
oh wooowww i <3 the colors in that palette!
Karen says
I’m digging them too!
Liza says
It reminds me of a Russian painter, Malevich, and his works from the 1910s…

Karen says
I’ve never heard of that painter! I guess you really do learn something new every day. 🙂

The packaging on that is pretty cool. Very futurist, but I could do without the makeup inside.
Karen says
Have you tried any Boots makeup before? Some of it’s pretty good!
lexi says
just reminds me of that Directv commercial…” Opulence…I haz it.”
Karen says
Ha ha!
mkdallas says
I find the color combination in this palatte troubling, lol. Like the person who picked them was having an acid flashback.
Karen says
LOL… maybe they were. I dunno if one can come up with the Russian Tsarina/80s combo while sober!
Rae says
Lol! I love the packaging — abstract art meets makeup! :DBut yah, it’s pretty darn weird.
Karen says
So weird! But that’s what I like about it. 🙂
Sally says
LOL, I love that combo. Boots is pretty good. I brought my friend back some from England a few years ago, and shortly afterward Target began carrying it. Ha ha. 🙁 I do like these colors, though. Very 80’s. Not really seeing the tsarina thing, though.
Karen says
Have you tried their Star Anis gloss? It’s one of my fave things from the line:

Raven says
OOh, I love it! All flatteringly wearable colors!
Can’t wait to see a look you do with this one! 🙂
Karen says
Hi Raven,
I didn’t end up getting the palette (for once I managed to exercise self restraint), but if I do I’ll put up a look.
Trisha says
1980s indeed, although I don’t know much of anything about Russian Tsarinas. I was wary about the colors, but the look they feature on their display is awesome. And $10 is decent.
Karen says
$10 bucks is great! I love affordable stuff with nice packaging.
Sharon says
I love Boots stuff. I used to spend hours in their stores in England. They have the best cleansers and colours. Too bad they aren’t carrying all of their products here in the US.
Karen says
Hi Sharon,
What were/are some of your fave products from the line?
Suzanne says
I have this one! I don’t think I’ve managed to wring the full potential out of it yet, but I love the faux 80s look, and the brown and dark gold are beautifully thick and buttery soft, and really pigmented. I haven’t played with the blue yet…. i have a thing against blue eyeshadows o_O
Karen says
I had the same feeling about blue for a long time, too, but then I started playing with it more and found I that I really like it!
Lisa Eldridge says
I just saw your blog today for the first time so was really surprised/happy to see the palette I designed for Christmas 2009 here. The design concept was mainly Russian constructivist art, the shapes and graphics of Russian art and design at the beginning of the modernist period with a bit of the 80’s colour trend for Christmas 2009 thrown in (a lot of the 80’s geometric shapes were influenced by Russian graphics) No idea where the Tsarinas came from??? Its a shame it took a whole year to get into Target : (
Great blog btw! X
Karen says
Thanks, Lisa! It’s interesting to get the history behind the design. 🙂
Amee says
innovative way of designing palette 🙂
Karen says
Yeah, it’s kinda funky, huh?
