INTEROFFICE MEMORANDUM
TO: Zac Posen, my favorite eye-rolling judge on a fashion reality TV show
SUBJECT: These Tarte holiday 2015 collection palettesMy darling, please, when you can fit into your busy schedule, I would LOVE a few matching outfits to go with these new Tarte holiday 2015 collection palettes. I’m talking dresses, and if it’s not too much trouble, could you also make something stylish for my plus-size tabby cat?
Incidentally, do you do maternity wear?? Or fabulous feline fashion?
Never mind. To quote Tim Gunn, your charming coworker, I’m sure you’ll “make it work.”
Love,
Karen (Makeup and Beauty Blog)
I got momentarily lost in a sequin-fueled reverie this afternoon while I ooh’d and ahh’d over these two Tarte palettes from two of the brand’s new holiday 2015 collection sets (which are on counters right meow). I don’t know how many minutes passed before I realized, “Oh, right! I should probably put on my makeup now.” LOL!
Not knowing where to start, I defaulted to my makeup happy place — smoky brown eyes, big lashes and bold lips — but I see a lot of other looks with these in my immediate future.
The two sets here are called Light of the Party ($59) and Greatest Glitz ($49), and they’re both very well balanced, with a good mix of mattes and shimmers, cool and warm tones, and shades for everyday makeup and evenings on the town. If you like traditionally pretty looks of the kind that celebs like to wear on the red carpet, I think you’ll really like them both. They’re two of my favorite things from the Tarte holiday 2015 collection.
Both sets include multiple pieces, and here are pictures, but for the full 411 on both sets, check out the video at the top.
The Tarte Light of the Party set ($59)
The Tarte Greatest Glitz set ($49)
The Light of the Party set is a Sephora exclusive, while the Greatest Glitz set is only available at Ulta. If you stumble upon one or both of them while holiday shopping, please try to remind yourself that you’re supposed to be looking for gifts for other people (OTHER PEOPLE!). 🙂 Because you’ll probably be tempted to get at least one of them for yourself.
I’d say go for the Light of the Party set if you’re pretty makeup experienced, because I see A LOT of creative potential with that one, and I think the Greatest Glitz set could be a good one for makeup beginners, because of those three mini palettes. They take the guesswork out of figuring out what to wear.
I’m wearing a few shades from the Light of the Party set in the video at the top, and I had a blast putting on these products. I think that Tarte’s eyeshadows have gotten progressively better and more consistent over the past few seasons, and I’m loving how well they blend. They don’t look heavy on my lids either.
Just be sure to tap off your brush before you place the shadows on your lids, because fallout can be a minor ish with these.
Here are the Tarte Light of the Party products (and the other key products from other brands) that I’m wearing in the video…
- Peach On Earth Eyeshadow — all over my lids from lash line to brow bone
- Party Favored — crease
- Cocoa What Fun — outer half of the lid
- Haute Chocolate — outer corners, and my upper and lower lash lines
- Social Butterfly — bronzer
- Amazed — blush
- Pink Champagne — highlighter
- NARS Numero 5 — false lashes
- MAC Groundwork Paint Pot — as an eyeshadow base
- MAC Smolder — water lines
- MAC All Fired Up Lipstick and Redd Lip Liner — lips
As always, thank you for watching, my friend! I hope you’re having a wonderful Friday so far.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I have to say that I’m not very excited about Tarte holiday sets this year… I feel like it’s more of the same? Also, that sequin case is really not my style. Pass for me!

Pretty packaging and amazing quality, but I’m not the biggest fan of the shades! I feel like there are sooo many purpley colors, and I never use those types of shades because I don’t think they look good with my eye color and complexion. A pass for me, but it looks amazing on you!

Ooh I think this is my favourite out of all the holiday sets you’ve reviewed so far! Except maybe Guerlain, but it’s so spendy. Tarte products are awesome!

I recently watched an old episode of Glee where one character said something like, “I spend my nights making out with my cat and watching Ghost Whisperer.” Which totally made me think of you. 🙂

Not so keen on the shadows, but the packaging… Could I get just that to use as a clutch?

I bought last year’s sets, so I’ll be skipping these. The makeup colors are too similar. I hate the patterned packaging on Light of the Party and some of the other items. I think it’s just really, really ugly. Greatest Glitz has much nicer packaging, IMO. I might get the Bling It On blush palette from this year’s collection, but that’s the only thing I’m considering.

Gah! The packaging. *clutches pearls* It’s beautiful, just beautiful. Unfortunately, Tarte shadows aren’t my fave because the eyeshadow performance/consistency isn’t that great. But it is a plus knowing that the formula is getting better. Yet, who am I kidding? I’d get this because it’s simply beautiful. Otherwise, why else would anyone buy holiday sets? Duh, right? ?

Is THINK I see a hand and an arm somewhere under all those swatches! 😉 Some of these shades look really pretty. And yet somehow I don’t feel very excited about this collection, strange right? I guess nothing really stands out for me.

Karen, you are just too funny! Singing a song from the 70’s and then a rap song. Anyway, I enjoyed your preview of the two Tarte holiday kit. The colors seem to be almost the same, but if I had to choose, I’d go with the Ulta version because you can break it up and give them as multiple gifts (just like you said) ha ha!

I love all the the holiday collections deals . Karen you are doing a great job rolling with the holiday collection videos!! Cause baby needs a new pair of shoes! Lol

I really wanted to like Light of the Party, but I returned it. All of the colors are beautiful and perfect, but the typical Tarte formula and pigmentation was lacking.

Although the packaging is gorgeous it’s just too bulky to get that thing out every day. Maybe a pretty Christmas present for a makeup starter?

I’m planning on picking one of these up once I finish exams as a ‘congrats you finished your first year of university’ gift, but I can’t decide which one to get as they’re both so gorgeous!
