Entrepreneurial women of the world, will somebody please make my dream come true and start a line of women-owned-and-operated gyms with flattering overhead lighting, because I’m tired… I’m tired of looking at myself in the mirror in my HIIT class and seeing Gollum looking back at me lifting weights and doing lunges.
Until that day comes, there’s always Sweat Cosmetics.
“Our goal at Sweat Cosmetics is to develop a line of cosmetics that contain SPF for the modern woman who strives to be physically fit while also embracing a healthy, active lifestyle. We are committed to narrowing the gap between beauty and fitness while prioritizing skin protection.”
They’re a pretty new-ish brand, and now they’re also available at Sephora. They’re all about mineral makeup that you can wear to the gym, or to go jogging, or if you do any other type of physical exercise and you want to look cute (well, cuter than usual). The line was created by a team of women Olympic soccer players ⚽ and professional athletes ? ⛸️?, which I think is awesome.
Their products are mineral-based, which means powder products, not liquid, and they focus on base products like foundation, bronzer and highlighter.
Everything is sheer-to-medium coverage, so they have a no-makeup makeup vibe. You can go to the gym, go to dance class, go to a soccer meet, whatever, and still look like you, just a little more polished. Oh! And they all have SPF.
The $42 face products come with a refillable makeup brush, which you load with one of the powders (they come in a small pot). Then you screw the powder into the base of the brush, tip it over, shake to dispense the powder through the brush bristles, and then apply to your face. There are also less expensive $24 refills available, too.
So…I don’t usually wear makeup when I work out because my biggest fear is that, ya know, I’ll be sweating, and sweaty beads of product will be dripping down my face onto my shirt and chin, because dude, I SWEAT LIKE A MOFO! I’m not one those delicate flowers who always looks perfectly dry and put together at the gym.
Nope!
But the dripping and the beading doesn’t happen with these products, yay! I wore the Mineral Foundation SPF 30 (it comes in five shades; I wear #300) and Glow Hard Bronzer to my HIIT class this morning, and my makeup looked fairly fresh and intact at the end.
I like that I can still see my freckles when I wear the foundation, and the coverage doesn’t look cake-y or heavy at all. Most importantly, my skin can breathe!
By the end of class, my skin still looked even and fresh. The only issue I saw was around my chin area, where there were some streaks and minor patchiness, but that may have been because I blotted my face with a towel a few times during class.
Two things to keep in mind: the refillable brush reservoir is a little messy, especially when holding it downward and shaking it to get the powder to come out through the bristles.
It ended up on my desk, my shirt, my pants… Next time, I’m going to have a paper towel nearby to catch any wayward foundation and bronzer.
Speaking of bronzer, I’m not crazy about the shape of the brush head. It’s small and pointy, which makes it precise…but it also leaves stripes on your skin! I prefer my bronzer to look more diffused and natural and sun-kissed. I think that a larger, fluffier brush head would have been nice.
I end up buffing it out with another fluffy face brush.
Anyway, I’m definitely sold on this combo, and I intend to wear it again. Oh, and bonus: when I left the house, El Hub said I looked cute. 🙂 LOL! And it took that man two weeks to notice when I dyed my hair pink.
A refillable brush with a pot is $42, and the refills are $24. Also, in addition to the foundation and bronzer, they have a translucent powder and a highlighter. If you’re interested, check ’em out at Sephora.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Wasn’t expecting this! I never sweat very hard when I work out, but I do get flushed and even that impacts my make-up…

Waterproof foundation is too much for me. Makeup to gym is my least favorite thing but I could use concealer help sometimes. Do you know a good waterproof concealer?

I love the idea but have never worn anything on my skin when I was working out that didn’t break me out. If I’ve been in a hurry and didn’t have time to wash my face, or it was unexpected working out like an impromptu game of soccer with the kids, I’d be sure to see the ill effects the next day. And I find that facial powders are the worst for it. My pores and powder seem to have a hate-hate relationship. HAHA! That said, if it works for you – and it looks like it does – that’s awesome! 🙂

This reminds me a lot of my ColoreScience Sunforgettable water resistant loose mineral sunscreen, which I used a lot last summer on my decollete, hands, and arms. So much quicker and easier than sticky lotion sunscreens, so easy to carry in my bag for re-applying during the day. And much better than the Peter Thomas Roth one — there is a way to clean the brush. To make it more economical, I bought it in packs of three when Dermstore had 20% off sales.
I can apply my face makeup to last through hiking a couple of miles in a downpour in 90-degree weather, lol. (As long as I’m wearing a hat or hood with a brim that keeps the rain from hitting my face with force.) Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer + IT Cosmetics CC Cream & concealer + Hourglass powder + Urban Decay setting spray. Tenacious brow products. Mascara topcoats. MAC Paint Pots or NARS Eye Paints as eyeshadow primers. I don’t like to go out without some makeup 😉

Wow, that still looks great post workout–I’m impressed. Where is your workout top from? I love the cut of it!

Thanks for sharing this! I work out 4-5 times a week at my house and sweat like crazy. I normally wash all my makeup off before working out but I think I would love this for a Sunday where I work out then go and run errands like food shopping fun fun.

Karen thanks for posting this. Where did you get your pink top? I love it. I workout 6 days a week and I’m also a sweaty hot mess so sweaty that I look like I took a shower after my workouts. I used to never wear make up when I was younger but I’ve been for the last 4 years wearing a light wash of no make up make up during my workouts. Its probably stupid of me because I sweat so much and have a towel with me at all times 90% of it is always gone after my workout. Pretty much the only thing surviving would be my eye make up and eyebrows and that’s probably because I don’t wipe my eye area with my towel. When I work out I work out hard. I figured you know what I have enough make up to last me a life time. I enjoy putting it on and if it makes me feel good about wearing it even though it’s all melted off after my work out it still served its purpose.

I never wear makeup when I workout. Who cares what I look like then. But when I did horse shows there were these unwritten rules about how you looked and your turn out. Like wearing your hairnet a particular way and not having VPL in your breeches. So I’d wear L’Oreal True Match Mineral Foundation over my sunblock. It evened my skin out and made it so my sunblock didn’t slide around while I was riding in 95 degree heat in tall boots, long pants, a long sleeved show shirt with a tall buttoned up collar, with a show coat over it and a helmet. Talk about sweating like a mo-fo. The great thing about the L’Oreal is it comes in like 12 colors, has SPF 20 and it runs about $10- $15 depending on which drugstore you get it at.
