Never mind that the silver faux-croc cover of LORAC’s Silver Screen Palette ($30) kinda reminds me of my ashy winter legs. When I peeked inside, I saw stars!
I’m soooo into you!
Silver Screen, one of three limited-edition goodies from LORAC’s new Hollywood Ice Holiday 2009 collection, comes with eight neutral eyeshadows, two blushes, one lip gloss and an iddy biddy double-sided eye brush.
More of LORAC’s Hollywood Ice Holiday 2009 collection…
- The Double Booked Full Face Collection ($55, a limited edition palette available exclusively at Sephora)
- Couture Shine Gloss Collection ($23, limited edition glosses, available at both Sephora and Ulta)
NOTE: Silver Screen’s exclusive to Ulta, and I haven’t seen it for sale online yet, so peep your local Ulta store for availability.
Silver Screen’s mix of warm and cool eyeshadows first caught my eye. I dig the buttery smooth texture of LORAC’s shadows and how easy I think it makes them to apply and blend, yet somehow they still manage to last all day long, too, even on my oily lids.
If you’re new to eye makeup and confused by color pairings, you might give it a try. LORAC makes it easy for beginners by grouping their shadows into warm and cool shades.

And I appreciate the handy dandy smokey eye tutorial on the back of the box. It’s just a nice little touch with step-by-step instructions and a map illustrating the proper placement of the shadows.
I’m gonna give the eye look a try later this week…
Before you jet, peruse the pics, and let me know what you think. 🙂

Squash it good… Squash it REAL GOOD!
In other news, I’ve been on this weird personal mission to explore new veggies. Last week I bought my first spaghetti squash. Of course, I have no idea what to do with it.
I might just follow the instructions on the label and try nuking it in the microwave, but that’s awfully uninspiring…
Got any ideas for me? The easier the better, LOL! 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

THose swatches look great 🙂 ANd woah!! I’ve never heard of that spaghetti squash stuff. Sounds amazing, Lol!

This is so pretty! My problem is I like having preservatives in my makeup (lol, right?) because then I can keep it for a long time. I always got the impression that Lorac’s stuff were more natural, or else I would have gotten it.

Hi Karen! Do you think those blushes would be too light or too ashy on skin a couple shades darker than your skin? I always fall in love with colors only to find out that they’re too light for me after I try them on. As for your spaghetti squash dilemma, check out my recipe for Spaghetti Squash with Turkey Sausage & Artichoke Hearts. http://www.revelandfeast.com/2009/02/spaghetti-squash-with-turkey-sausage.html It’s an easy recipe, promise!

Love this palatte, but I don’t have access to Ulta. But I do to Sephora so I’m gonna check out their version.
As for the spaghetti squash, I love it and I’ve used Emeril Lagasses recipe many times. It’s simple but with stuff like this simple is all you need for the best flavor. Remember his taste may not be yours so adjust salt and pepper and herbs accordingly.
You can get the recipe here:

Oooh! This is lovely. They don’t sell LORAC over here, which sucks. Although my bank manager would probably disagree with me on that LOL

ok I absolutely love this palette! I think I’m going to have to spring for this one!!!
and honestly…as uninspiring as the microwave sounds, it really does work well and it’s great!

Those colors are all very pretty, but I am especially drawn to the lipgloss. It looks amazing on you! Do they sell that shade of lip polish individually or just part of the palette?
I’m definitely not a fan of vegetables; I wouldn’t be able to tell you how you should try it but please let me know how it turns out 🙂 I should really begin my own personal mission to explore new veggies as well. Hope it works out well for you!
Kelly says
Hmm you know I don’t have a lot of Lorac makeup but this looks awfully tempting. The warm and cool colors all look very wearable on my skin…
As far as your spaghetti squash, I have not a clue. Veggies that I’m not familiar with scare me!

I do want to check out the Spaghetti Squash! I’m vegetarian so finding new veggies is always a plus!

Cut squash in half — scrape out seeds — lay on separate pieces of tinfoil and fill holes with BUTTER and BROWN SUGAR. Wrap the two halves in their respective foils and bake at 350 for an hour (at least) or longer for mushier squash. YUM!

I WANT this! I gotta find my way to an ulta!

Ooohh…that is a very pretty palette. I really like how LORAC’s shadows are usually more of a shimmer than a frost but that looks like some chunky glitter in the cool shades. How glittery does it look on the eyelid?
I’m a fan of roasting spaghetti squash. Split in half and roast until fork tender at 300 (I like a low and slow roast) with a little olive oil or butter on top. You can shred with your fork and put your fav pasta sauce on it. Or go with butter, sage, and nutmeg during the roast. Or go with sesame oil, garlic, and ginger during the roast. You can make it a full meal by cracking an egg into the cavity halfway through and it’ll coddle while the squash finishes. Yum.

Loooveeely palette !! I havent tried Lorac…dont think they sell it here in London….have to go on a hunt.
Oh the spagetti squash….my mum friends grow them, so we have about 5 sitting in the kitchen. We usually make a chicken and veggie broth, lots of ginger, shitake mushrooms, spring onions.Cut them melon is quaters, or nuke it in the mircrowave til its soft, then scrap the melon with a fork then bung it back into the broth.

This palette is pretty and the colours look quite pigmented. I think it will be a great starter kit and I like the mix of neutrals and brights together. I don’t know about spaghetti squash, but I love butternut squash ravioli with pesto sauce. It is delicious!

Cut it in half and roast it cut side down in about 1 inch of water for 20 min. Shred flesh with a fork and sauté with olive oil and garlic. Sometimes I add shrimp. Good pasta substitute.

That’s such a beautiful palette!
Vegetables with instructions – that’s so cute! And a great idea. Hope u share with us your recipe =)

I’ve had my eye on the similar palette at Sephora for a month, but now I like this one better!! 🙂
Spaghetti squash…Hmm. I’ve never heard of it! Now I’ll have to go look for it.

What a yummy palette!
Yummy squash too! I adore roasted squash with butter. Just lots of butter. Kinda takes the healthy out of it, though, doesn’t it? 😉
Marce says
What in the world is a spaghetti squash? I hadn’t heard of that before, weird!
Onto the subject I do know about 😀 , that palette is seriously stunning. The shadows, the blushes, the gloss! Everything a newbie needs, colour wise. It’s a good way to start. Or continue, LOL!

You can make a great meal for two people with one spaghetti squash! I like to nuke it, then cut it in half and use it like a bowl. (Scrape the meat of the squash to get the spaghetti-ish strings to fluff up.) Fill it with roasted veggies and steamed shrimp. Add a little peanut sauce or lime juice. Delicious!

I love spaghetti squash. At home, we eat it just like pasta with a yummy tomato-vodka sauce. It’s a great fall dish and healthy too! I hope it works out for you tonight.

Lovely palette. I like the blushes most, but I think I have a lot of dupes in my stash.
Spaghetti squash is so yummy. How I’d eat it: nuke the squash to make pasta, then add some sundried tomatoes, spinach, yellow peppers, Parmesan cheese and maybe some sausage. Mix well. The tomatoes, cheese and sausage will add oomph to your squash.

Wowza! Love those colors! I have got to stop coming here – you show way too many pretty things. I am satisfied with my MAC palette, I am satisfied with my MAC palette….. If I say it enough, do you think it will be true?
As far as the squash, let’s just say I have bad memories of being forced to eat squash at a friend’s house and feeling queasy afterwards, so squash is totally off my list. Although I did eat some butternut squash soup at a professional conference I attended when I worked outside the home. It was pretty good too!
Nicole15 says
Oh my, I am loving that palette. I have been on a major palette kick for the past couple months. Totally digging the ease of having all my colors to create a look right at my fingertips. However, this one is superior cause it also has blushes & gloss. The fact that they included a shimmer AND matte blush wins major points in my book. Good look LORAC. I will have to buy you beautiful palette! 🙂
Megan says
Wow, all that for $30? I’m so on that. LORAC shadows are some of my faves!

LOL! Thanks for the laugh Karen. I don’t know about this palette. It seems like a reasonable price, but I just bought the Tarte Treasure Chest and I am in luuuurrrve with it. I had to do a full eye just to go have coffee this morning outside my house heh he
Have a great day.
Anastasia.

The shadows look nice, but they’re nothing too exciting in my opinion. I think the blushes look really pretty though, especially the lighter one.
Okay, so I’m pretty sure it’s a good sign I’ve been working at Shaw’s for way too long when I remember a squash’s PLU code (4776!) before I even remember what kind of squash it is…

Hmm. I bought the croc palette from LORAC at Sephora last year and I ended up TRASHING it. The value was great, the colors gorgeous. . . but–the actual product was HORRID!!! Every.single.eyeshadow both had massive fallout (think my cheeks were BLUE!) and not a hint of staying power–even with an awesome primer! Blushes were pretty but dry and icky.
I liked a sample of LORAC shadow I received once, so I thought this would be great. I was highly disappointed.
Hopefully you have a better run with it than the version I got from last year!
Corina says
Okay, I’m gonna be the foodie geek here…but spaghetti squash is fabulous! I love to cook it and then drizzle it in olive oil, s&p, fresh chopped garlic ( a little goes a long way) and freshly grated paramesan (not the gross powdery stuff). Just like experimenting with makeup, its fun to do the same thing with food!
When you cut open the squash after its cooked, use a fork to lightly pull out the “spaghetti”. You’ll be surprised on how much you’ll get!
And oh ya, the Lorac kit is so sweet and sassy! 😀
Karen says
Hi Corina,
I will have to try that recipe soon. Sounds yummy!
I am so TEAM SPAGHETTI SQUASH right now. 😀
