Well pass me a button-down flannel and fire up the Soundgarden, because I’m getting a decidedly ’90s vibe from the four lipsticks in the new RiRi Hearts MAC fall collection.
I wore lippies similar to these back then, when I wasn’t wearing MAC Paramount. The colors take me back to a kinder, gentler time…back when tiny black backpacks, spaghetti-strap dresses and baby tees ruled the world! — and when Lil’ Kim wasn’t so frightening.
The 20-piece RiRi Hearts MAC collection takes center stage inside MAC stores September 26, online at maccosmetics.com September 30, and at MAC counters October 3.
What do ya think? What’s the verdict on these?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Do you like Nude, Karen?
Karen says
The formula is great, and it’s very opaque, but it looks a little gray (at least on me) in person, which you really have to like. It photographs beautifully, though. Gray tones don’t show up as much, for some reason.
CKG says
Uh-oh. The swatch looks that way but on the lips, not so much. You can pull off a lot of shades that I can’t lol
I use Studio Fix NC43 and have a hard time with “nude” shades especially without a liner. Cherish and Touch are OK but other shades like Mocha and Freckletone come out more pink than brown or simply frosty (Tyrone Biggums) on me.
Don’t know why I keep looking at browns/neutrals lol
Karen says
Do you live near a Neiman Marcus? The best nude I’ve run into for fall is Tom Ford’s Sable Smoke. Expensive but flawless:

I have a hard time with nudes too, and this one is epic.
CKG says
Nowhere near LOL and the exchange rate is $6.5 or so USD to $1.00 TTD. I have checked out that shade before online, though. Perhaps a Christmas splurge!
Also going to look into MAC Spice and Wholesome (whilst I’m pondering Riri’s Nude).
Thanks a lot!
Karen says
Spice is wonderful. I’ve worn it for years and you can seriously use it with everything. Even just a little bit of clear gloss or balm and you’re good! Let me know what you end up getting. 🙂
CKG says
Is Spice very pink on you?

That cool red is so pretty.
Karen says
Super pretty!

I thought I wanted Talk That Talk, every several swatches I’m seen, I changed my mind on it. BUT Who’s That Chick, Nude and RiRi Woo lipglass are on my hitlist.
Karen says
Great choices! Love you handle, by the way.
Paula says
Karen, how does Talk the Talk compare to Rebel by Mac. I’m the same foundation shade as you are, would u recommend any of these lipsticks as a must have?
Karen says
Hi Paula,
Rebel is much more magenta and has a brightness to it that Talk the Talk lacks. It also has a bit of a sheen to it, while Talk the Talk is a straight up matte. HTH!
Laurindarling says
Hi!
How do you think Talk That Talk compares to Riri Heaux?
Heidi says
Ooh, I like Who’s that Chick!
Karen says
Bet it would look great underneath your coral glosses!
Natalie says
That orange looks kinda crazy, but kinda awesome. I’m going to have to check that one out it person.
Karen says
Hi Natalie,
It’s a little crazy to start, but after it settles in it actually looks really pretty! I haven’t tried it yet with a clear gloss, but I bet that would help to mellow out the frost and make it more wearable.
Sarah says
RiRi Woo and Talk That Talk are such lovely fall colors and my pick from this collection.
Karen says
Awesome!
Charisma says
Riri Woo and Nude is what I’m gonna get for this collection.
Karen says
Great choices!
Danielle says
I like a couple of these, but I’m not sure how different they are from all of the lipstick I already have. I will have to check them out in person.
Karen says
Have fun!
Bella says
I’m sorry, but I find those frosty lipsticks exceptionally ugly and unflattering, esp for anyone much past 30, but actually for everyone! And the Riri Woo looks uncomfortably dry. Another pass I guess.
Karen says
Hi Bella,
Sometimes I get freaked out by frosty lipsticks too, but I think you can do a few tricks to making them wearable. I usually go with a lighter application or slick a gloss on top. Tones down the frost just enough so that it looks less scary!
Ms.Annie says
Hmm!! They look so GREAT on you! If you had to pick only one to splurge on, which way would you lean?
Kim says
OMG, help me. I just realized – for sure – that I’m stuck in the 90s with my lip preferences. I love Talk that Talk, though I’d probably have to lightly dab it (and blot like crazy) before I’d wear it myself. And, btw, I laughed out loud over the flannel button down comment. Guilty. 🙂
jalissa says
Does the “nude” lippie look anything like freckletone because I would hate to buy it if I have it ?
Ankita@corallista says
Love RiRi Woo! Cant wait for it to launch in India!
rashmi says
all the shades are awesome , especially red and plum 😀 😀
dyingggg to get one of these 😀 😀
Nicola says
Hi Karen,
I’d love to buy ‘nude’, because I really prefer darker nudes over shades like Creme Cup, etc. Do you think the lipstick will work with my NC15/20 skin?
Love from Germany!
Jasmin says
I’m actually starting to like these lipsticks. I wasn’t sure about them, but they’re looking great on you! Awesome swatches. Thank you!
Chhavi says
Love talk that talk and nude…definitely on my need-to-have-that list…I love matte finishes…somehow, they look more elegant to me. Already own RiRi Woo, and I am now debating whether to buy the RiRi Woo lip pencil along with the Bad Girl Gone Good blush..😉. Any suggestions?
Olivia says
Looks nice! I may have to check out Talk that Talk. I’m debating between that and Fixed on Drama from the Retro Matte collection.
Monica says
Do you think if you have “fixed on drama” that you dont need “talk that talk”?
Katie says
do you think talk that talk looks a lot like diva by mac?
lorrana says
Karen,do you think the nude lipstick would look nice on my NC40/35 skin? I loved this packaging and don’t have any lipsticks at all,but i’m really unsure if it’d be good on me. By the way, loved you blog. 😉
anna says
Does who’s that chick have a long-ish wear time?
Katherine says
Talk that talk & fixed on drama look very similar how different are they from each other?
maiko says
is riri woo from this collection the same as the previous collection? what’s the difference?
