Gaming legend Sega and cosmetics giant Shiseido are teaming up to bring makeup tips and beauty advice to the Nintendo DS.
Details are sketchy, but rumor has it that Project Beauty, aka Shiseido Beauty Solution Supervised Exploration Center Project Beauty (LOL!) will go on sale in Japan this November.
With an optional add-on camera, users will be able to take photos of faces, which are then analyzed by the system. Based on bone structure, skin tone and the position of features in the face, the program then creates tailor-made makeup looks optimized for your convenience. Geek out, yo!
Depending on how it’s executed, I think the idea has potential. I’m intrigued! Software like this could potentially come in handy, especially if it’s made available for devices like smartphones. Quality beauty-related applications for mobile devices would come in handy while one is haulin’, yah? 😉
I’m guessing that since Shiseido is involved with Sega and Nintendo on this one, the makeup and skin care suggestions will draw primarily from their line of products, but who knows? — if it catches on in Japan, other makeup brands may soon follow.
If MAC or Chanel released a lipgloss advisor for my iPhone I’d be all over it in a *hot second*!
What fashion or beauty applications would you like to see developed for your game system or mobile phone?

I heard about this on one of my geek blogs. I have a DS so I’m all for trying it out. I’m sure if they bring it to the US they’ll find a less cumbersome name to market it under!
An iPhone version sounds pretty nifty, though. You could create looks and send them to friends, etc. Instead of giving makeup advice over the phone I could just email my girls what they should wear with that outfit!

have you heard of a website called taaz.com?? you can pretty much do the samething including hairstyles too….i loved it, it was an awesome tool to have when deciding whether or not to cut my hair short.

Hi Asta,
I don’t have a DS but I’d totally rock that out if I did.
Chanel has an iPhone application that’s super hot. It features runway shows, not makeup though. MAC needs to get on that train ASAP.

Hi Karen. I have a DS Lite I’m excited for this, but probably would be more excited if it were from MAC or Chanel. Hopefully there is an English version. I have played a fashion game on my DS Lite before, where I cut cloth and sew on buttons and the like to make clothes for my customers. It is more suitable for kids since it trains their hands and eyes coordination. I don’t have iPhone, but I’ll get it if there is such on game for it LOL.

I would like to see like a hair application. You can view how different hair styles & color would look on you. Then your hair guru would know exactly what you want.

I heard about this months ago and I though it was a great idea. An eye shadow color picker app would rock. You submit the brand and there choose your shade combos.

The one I really want already exists in France! I saw the ads for it while in Paris. Here’s how it works: Basically it’s a cookbook complete with voice-activated lexicon and videos of every step! It really looks like an easier way to learn how to cook–not dissimilar from this makeup project. It’s even also on the Nintendo DS!
