Pretty Pastels with Yves Saint Laurent Spring Look 2009

Published in: Just For Fun, Makeup

Think you could pull off the pastel eye featured in the Yves Saint Laurent Spring Look 2009?

The model’s wearing a delicious trio of pink, purple and mint shadows, each stacked one on top of the other like Neopolitan Ice Cream! It think it’s gorgeous, but I’m not sure I could pull it off.

Pastels are tough for me, but they sure look perty…

I really love the conservative colors in this release, too.

I’ve just started testing a few of them, starting with the Eyeshadow Duo in Oatmeal/Petroleum Blue ($41).

Not having had much time to use them yet, it looks like Oatmeal (a matte cool beige) and Petroleum Blue (a matte slate blue) apply with high pigmentation, and something tells me they’ll look great together, with Oatmeal as a wash over the entire lid and Petroleum as a liner.

What do you think?

And then there’s the new Gloss Pur lipglosses in Pure Fuchsia and Pure Nude (each $29).

I bet Pure Nude could be fun layered on top of a hot pink lipstick like MAC Girl About Town, but I think I’m leaning toward Pure Fuschia.

Both glosses have a faint, interesting scent that smells of licorice and watermelon. I know — strange combo, but I like it.

I hope they’re long lasting, too! I’ll report my findings a little later.

Pure Lipstick in Tea Rose ($30) brings up the rear. This creamy pink beige looks like it’ll pair perfectly with my favorite MAC Cremestick liner in Pink Treat and some clear gloss.

Swatches from left to right: Tea Rose, Pure Nude, Pure Fuchsia, Oatmeal, Petroleum Blue

YSL costs a pretty penny, so here’s to hoping for good wear time and pigmentation. :)

Calm down, Lover!

I finally heard C. Bale’s f-bomb-filled tirade yesterday, and all I have to say is WHOA. Two words, C. Bale: anger management.

Shoot! He broke my heart… I’m gonna need another virtual crush to take away the pain.

Maybe Detective Stabler, aka Law & Order: SVU’s Christopher Meloni, is up to the task.

Funny, but I just realized that all of the celebrities I get crushes on look kinda like El Hub. Hmmm…

How ya handling hump day, ladies? I hope things are going your way!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

  1. That’s funny all your virtual crushes look like your hubbie. I realized recently that most of mine are guys who are tormented (I must want to fix them?) like Wentworth Miller (Prison Break), David Boreanez (Buffy/Bones), Leo DiCaprio (only in The Departed, and there is something about Chuck on Gossip Girl that pulls me in dammit!

    Hi Vampy Varnish,

Ahhh! I was just watching Gossip Girl the other day! Nobody at my high school looked like those kids, LOL.

Do you remember how in Buffy spin-off, Angel, how Angel and Cordelia could never get together? That still haunts me.

  3. Indian Girl says:

Anger Mgmt LOL , thats right ! The moment I heard it last night, I knew I had to send it to you. But I also knew you were probably on top of it ! I’m likin the new crush…guess I have to start followin Law & Order for some Man Candy ! For now I am crushin on Jon Hamm & Jeffrey Dean Morgan …Hmmmmmmmmm….

    Hi Indian Girl,

Oh yah, Detective Stabler is a hottie, in that “I can save you … and kick somebody’s arse, too” kind of way.

He was also in the old HBO show, Oz, but he wasn’t a good guy.

Aww, how cute is Jeffrey Dean Morgan. I want to sit and have tea with him.

    I hope you’re having a nice Wednesday!

  5. Yes, I totally remember that! But I so loved Buffy and Angel together it killed me. Then I kinda liked Spike also (see yet another tortured man/vampire)! :-)

  6. Ok now this is sick, but I loved OZ and watched the whole series faithfully. I loved Stabler on that show I think because he was so evil. But my fav was Ryan O’Reilly! LOL! Such a hot Irish lad!

Have you heard the Christian Bale Remix, though? It makes it clear — in a funny way — how crazy the whole thing was.

If you want to listen to it — obviously *NSFW* — you can here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=YTihsJQHt48

Ah, clearly I don’t get to watch enough tv, I can’t even begin to think of a current hottie! I guess I’ll just have to check out all of your suggestions on the web! ;)

As for pulling off the above look… I think I’d love the eye look on me (the lips are too orange), but others would find it OTT. Hmm, maybe I’ll try it for my birthday with a set of super-glam faux lashes! Woo-hoo! :D

  9. Tali says:

If all your crushes look like el hub de toi
    El hub must be yummy!!!

Im not so keen on this collection but the lipstick looks very rich and moisturising..something i like.. i may have to take a closer look!!

Blonde Redhead Brunette came online in the uk today (yes waaaay behind) I bought all the brushes and some lipsticks.. but i feel out of sinc with the usa. Coc collection was right on time so i could compare with your posts.. now i feel all left behind :/

Ha ha ha ha ha, my mom loves Detective Stabler too. My mom and I are huge SVU fans.

I love the blue from YSL. It would probably be a bit too dark for my pale skin though. The sun needs to come out and warm up the Midwest so I can at least get my 15 minutes of Vitamin D processing (currently, I’m consuming Tillamook cheese like you wouldn’t believe). I’m so pale, you can see my blue veins from my wrists to my elbows!!! Thank God for long sleeves! You can trace my veins! At least it’ll make it easier for the nurse to draw my blood when I need to do that again. XD

The Pure Fuchsia is pretty too.

I think Christian Bale was having a bad day that day, Karen. Don’t give up your crush yet!!! Who knows, he may prove he’s worthy of you again!!!

  12. meimei says:

I have nothing to say on the YSL collection, but I have been waiting for you to say something about Christian Bale! Dagnabbit. Every time something like that happens to a crush of mine, I always get my Mom’s voice in my head: “He’s just a boy…”

(And: Stabler as a replacement? I’m all for that!)

Reminds me of the early days of my blog, where I used to drool a lot over Peter Sarsgaard – which was further mitigated when I was in a class with P. Sars’ doppelganger. Now I don’t drool over him as much – well, not since I moved on to Gerard Butler and Jon Hamm -but I won’t be surprised if I run into Maggie Gylenhaal one day and she ends up asking me if I’m still trying to steal her man! LOL.

First person I thought of when I heard the C Bale tirade was you!!! Yikes. Has he made a public statement yet apologizing for his rant? It certainly might be time for a new crush. I read an In-Style article a few months back about Christopher Meloni and he seemed so nice and quite the family man. Also, the YSL stuff looks great. At least it seems to have pigmentation, in contrst to so many releases recently!

  14. Tiera says:

I am so drooling over Pure Fuschia! And Christopher Meloni! OMGosh, one of my gay BFFs was totally obsessed with him on Oz… especially since he played a gay character, and did a full frontal scene! Hahaha!

Your husband looks like Stabler?! Lucky…

I love love love Olivia, I want to be her when I grow up!

  16. ParisB says:

Ok, the eye palette doesn’t quite do it for me, but the fucshia lipgloss is gorgeous!! That navy blue looks great though but I think I might have a similar one from an older collection – I’ll have to check. Thanks for the YSL updates Karen!

  17. Karen says:

    Hi Vampy Varnish,

Really?! I remember being totally grossed out by the whole Buffy/Spike affair. I was really shocked to find out the actor who plays Spike wasn’t British, LOLOL…

Regarding Oz, I made it half way through the series before realizing that watching it frightened the heck out of me. But I didn’t mind the hot dudes frolicking about, ha!

  18. Karen says:

    Hi Christina,

OMG — was it wrong that I started rocking out to that? HA!

  19. Karen says:

    Hi Glosslizard,

You would SO ROCK those pastels (I’m so jealous!).

You’d totally need a super glam outfit to go with the lashes and the eyes, fo’ sho. :) I see you in something sleek, black, and fierce or something uber colorful — feather boa optional!

  20. Karen says:

    Hi Tali,

Yay, BBR! Better late than never. :) Which lipsticks did you get?

I am still kinda lemming the 226. Do you like it?

  21. Karen says:

    Hi Rowena,

Aww, we can be ladies in mourning together…

  22. yen v. says:

I am in LOVE with this look!

  23. Glosslizard says:

LOL! Now I’m all ready to get decked up… I’ve just got nowhere to go!

  24. Medina says:

    Hi Karen and Rowena!

Go easy on the boy. We all knew that he was a bit of a drama queen on shoots, remember his old Assistant doing the rounds in media after the “mother shouting incident”? Bale is an artist, they’re all a bit temperamental. Yes, it was unprofessional but come on, at least he’s human unlike Mr-Nice-Guy Tom Cruise or Mr I’m-So-Wooden-I-Use-Ronseal-As-Fake-Tan Keanu Reeves. Some people are just much hotter when they don’t open their mouth, like David Beckham.

  25. Tali says:

Hey Karen.. well 226 brush was a must have for me. I reccomend it because sometimes the 222 is just too clumsy for a softer more precise look. Plus I find my 222 bristles spread open too much!!

The other two I bought online and today when i went instore i realised they were nothing remrkable (i still needed them as I have pracically no brushes) but i can imagine for someone who is more of a pro they arent so important.

I bought blow dry.. that was it for the lips other than red devil glass. Im more stuck on Mac Lip conditioners than lipsticks!! This collection didnt blow me away but i was fun to play with the skinfinishes!

  26. Elle says:

I couldn’t take the Bale rant very seriously. (My guy friends hold that he’s on steroids, and it was a case of ‘roid rage, but eh, they usually mock my celeb crushes anyway so I think that’s just an extension of the mockery!). I heard it and I just kept wondering what it would sound like in his Batman voice. He is definitely more of the “artist” type (did you ever see “The Machinist”? Creeeeepy…and he got down to 120 lbs for that role, which is insane) so I can see how he’d be a bit more on the volatile side sometimes. I’d definitely rather have him be more “real”, and since I heard nothing but good things about him the whole time he was here filming Batman and Public Enemies…I’ll stick to those stories for now… :)

    Crap, that was long. Sorry!

(Also adding to the Jon Hamm love. “Mad Men” is insanely addictive!)

  27. I had NO idea that Spike wasn’t British! You have crushed me, LOL!

  28. Karen says:

    Hi Yen V.,

I love it, too. I rarely wear sherbert pastels though so I don’t think I can pull this off. Do you wear these light shades?

  29. Karen says:

    Hi Glosslizard,

OMG, that’s like the story of my life right there!

That’s why I end up getting dressed up and going to Safeway, ha!

  30. Karen says:

    Hi Medina,

I still have hope. I bet homie was just having a bad day.

  31. Karen says:

    Hi Tali,

Gah! I am going to the counter today and if it’s there I might get it. I like the smaller brush head and how it looks like it’ll fit perfectly into the socket. Right now I use the 217 in the crease. It’s nice, but not always the best for detail work.

The Skinfinishes were my favorite part of the collection. :)

  32. Karen says:

    Hi Elle,

He was totally creepy in The Machinist!

So, I really hope he’s not ‘roiding. Cause that’ll break my heart, too.

  33. Karen says:

    Hi Vampy Varnish,

Aww, sorry hon. Yup, he’s American.

Apparently I know too much Buffy trivia for my own good.

Oh — you know that Willow and Wesley are about to have a kid, right?

  34. Elle says:

“So, I really hope he’s not ‘roiding. Cause that’ll break my heart, too.”

Mine, too…but I just don’t think that would really go along with the whole artist-type/method-ish stuff he does. I still think he did it (the weight loss AND the weight/muscle gain) with the help of a doctor, as he stated.

Off-Bale topic–I snuck off to a MAC counter this morning and got some Cremeteam stuff. I skipped on the glosses for now, but got Creme in my Coffee (I’m in love, seriously…it is the perfect pinky-brown that I’ve been looking for and I knew I had to have it when I saw you wear it!) and Lickable (I never wear hot pinks but I figured I’d try it). I love the formula!

  35. Erica says:

Those are all so pretty, but probably a bit too expensive for me. And yeah, I feel you on Christian Bale, he completely lost all the respect I had for him. But! My new crush is Jason Statham. Look him up, he is a hottie with the most amazing accent. Yummy! Or there are plenty of hot doc’s on Greys Anatomy, they all pretty much make my heart swoon Thursday nights.

  36. Louise Gray says:

    HIYA!
Forget about the men for a moment. They’ll only break your heart. That is why I am sticking with my dog. hhahaha. Well, he’s a man at least. I do have one, by the way. But some days I would sure love to trade him in for a new model. LOL!!!!!!!!!
Now back to the makeup. I am waiting for the summer releases. What is wrong with these designers. Maybe I have too much makeup. But everything that they are showing this season, I have seen somehow/somewhere. You would think with this recession that they would put thinking caps on and come up with some brand new ideas. I guess that they are jumping onto the green movement-recycling.
Yes, they are recycling the past. And with some of these looks that they are showing, I do not want to look like I just leapt out of someone’s last nightmare as with that model and the green under her eyes. They should go back to an original idea. Some of us just want to look pretty and that’s that. I will close my thoughts with saying, you usually look pretty anyway. So save your money and don’t buy any of that junk you are showing today. (I am on a roll, aren’t? See what happens when you go to the gym two days in a row!!!) Louise

  37. YadiQ says:

i am so right on with louise grey

i have been continuously disappointed with everything these days :( i need the retail therapy but everything seems so un -exciting! i thought maybe it was me too that i had too much makeup but some formulations i am not finding worth the money and the colors all seem so washed out and blah
maybe its the trend but again i am with louise grey in this economy where are the fresh innovative ideas to make us lust and buy!

this post totally made my day and its been a rough one !! i love it lol

  38. cloudburst says:

Oh I love Elliot Stabler too! But I’m really feeling Detective Lupo from plain old Law & Order, everytime I watch the show I have a big stupid smile on my face – he is sooooo fine!

I haven’t seen Bale’s freak out yet. He seems like a pretty intense guy. I hope he isn’t abusive or an ass to work with because he’s really talented & we all want him to be nice & normal.

Petroleum Blue is really nice but the Law & Order men are nicer ;).

  39. Glosslizard says:

LOL! Woot! Birthday party at Safeway!

  40. cloudburst says:

I just listened to Bale’s massive freak out – interstingly enough he starts getting his Welsch accent back the angrier he gets. I hope he apologized to the person, because it makes him look like an ass.

  41. Karen says:

    Hi Elle,

Yes! Creme in Your Coffee is so awesome. While I was at the counter I was actually trying to convince someone to buy it. I swear my MAC counter should give me commission…

When you go back try the purple lipstick with the gloss. I swear it’s totally wearable and *not* scary. :)

  42. Karen says:

    Hi Erica,

I remember seeing him in The Transporter and thinking, HOLLA! ;) Homie looks good in a suit and tie.

  43. Karen says:

    Hi Louise Gray,

You make me laugh, girl. Seriously, keep going to the gym! You’re cracking me up, here!

  44. Karen says:

    Hi YadiQ,

I think summer will bring more excitement. I’m just glad there isn’t an over abundance of frosty pastels…

I hope you’re day wasn’t too bad. At least tomorrow is Friday!

  45. Karen says:

    Hi Glosslizard,

Yes, girl! Right next to the bananas. I will bring the drinks and the entertainment…

  46. Karen says:

    Hi Cloudburst,

Aye, did you listen to the remix?

  47. ferarri says:

How to wear those pastel colors? Pink for the browbone, yellow for crease and green for the bottom eyelid?

Would it cause my super puffy asian eyes to puff more?
