Urban Decay’s three new Baked Bronzers for Face and Body ($26 each) probably won’t satisfy the Oompa-Loompas or Snookies of the world. Able to be worn wet or dry on the face, eyes, lips and body, the faux tan these powder bronzers bring doesn’t look as orange that.
But if you’re interested yet unsure which Baked Bronzer to snag, Urban Decay International Makeup Artist Eric Jimenez suggests following these steps:
1. Decide on a level of color and coverage
These Baked Bronzers come in three different levels of color. The lightest is Gilded, Baked is the medium, and Toasted is the darkest shade. Each also varies in terms of coverage, with Gilded offering the least, and Toasted delivering more of a full-coverage look.
2. Do you want to shimmer or matte?
If you plan to wear them on your face, Eric suggests going with the finish that best suits the condition of your skin. If you have great, practically flawless skin, consider either Gilded, which has a shimmery golden finish, or Baked, which has a shimmery silver finish. (NOTE: The “veins” of shimmer in these new Baked Bronzers are not spray overlays; they penetrate all the way through the entire pan 🙂 ).
Since shimmers tend to emphasize things like fine lines, pore size and oily skin, if you’re dealing with bothersome skin issues, Eric recommends Toasted, which has a more forgiving matte finish.

Got a blush brush?
You may want to track down a blush brush to apply these (or other) bronzers if you don’t have one yet.
Although there are lots of different bronzer brush options, like kabukis, powder brushes, etc., the contours and angles of a blush brush allow you to more precisely define the hollows and curves of the face.
Find these Baked Bronzers sunning themselves on Sephora, Ulta and select Macy’s shelves soon (and also online).

the matte one looks so pretty! if i hadnt already found a HG bronzer in the Bourjois one, i’d definitely pick up toasted… wow
Karen says
I’ve heard the Bourjois was pretty good. Remember when you could find the line at Sephora?
dani@callitbeauty says
judging on swatches alone, i think baked would look the best on me, it’s absolutely lovely!
although i’m afraid it’s still much too dark even when applied with a light hand. i’d love to see what these would look like on paler skin.
Karen says
Hi Dani,
Lemme see what I can do…
sam says
I’d be willing to swatch em on my russian-pale skin… 😉 haha
Karen says
LOL! 😀
sam says
…I just bought the palest foundation offered by a pro company, and its about a shade and a half too dark… :$
Nina says
dimitri, is that you? 😀
Sam says
Nikolai is the name I use when booking reservations at exclusive restaurants and clubs… I throw on a Russian accent (apparently, it’s pretty good. Most of the Russians in Moscow thought I was native haha) and flash my visa at the door. Worked every time so far 😉
dani@callitbeauty says
thanks, karen 😀
dani@callitbeauty says
p.s.
sam: LOVE the term “russian pale”! haha!
Sam says
Hahaha I fit in so well in Moscow. Finally, others whose skin is as white as mine!! 🙂
Radhika says
I am just so brown already so I dont really look at bronzers (not that UD is available here to look at :P) ….but on Tabs they look really cute 😀 😀
Karen says
I’m brown too but I looooove bronzers! If you can check out NARS Laguna. It’s life changing.
heidi says
I have very fair skin but also not perfect. While I generally prefer a matte bronzer I think toasted might be to dark on my NW15 face! I unfortunately think I’m going to have to pass this by for that reason.
Karen says
Hi Heidi,
I hear you! My skin has pores like WHOA!
Katie says
Hi Karen! Will you be reviewing the Thierry Mugler lipglosses you had under your daily photo? They looked sooo pretty!
Karen says
Hi Katie,
For sure! I have them on my to do list. 🙂
Katie says
Good, I’m so excited! They looked so unique.
Shannon says
I luuuurv the way Gilded looks in the pan, but I think I like the swatch of Baked the best.
Random question, but kind of related to bronzers: do you have any favorite sunless tanners for the body? I like Jergens’ natural Glow lotion, but the smell really gets to me.
Karen says
That’s a good question. I don’t really have a lot of experience in that area so I need to open that one up to everyone else here…
Gals, can you recommend a good sunless tanning product for Shannon?
Jessi (Lacquered, Painted, Polished) says
These are so pretty but I know they won’t work for me. I have yet to find a bronzer that doesn’t look like I rubbed dirt on my cheeks. There are benefits to being pale, but not being able to wear bronzer isn’t one of them!
Karen says
Hi Jessi,
You might want to check out the ones from Too Faced. They make a few that are good for lighter skin.
Nina says
i totally <3 matte everything, and the same is true for bronzers! i think im loving toast a lot! 🙂
might be something ill pick up when i finally use up the one ive been using for a while now. 🙂
Karen says
Why wait to finish the one you have now! C’mon, your bronzer needs a buddy. 🙂
Nina says
hahaha you are an enabler!
will this sell @ sephora? bec im anticipating a gift card and can buy it then!
Karen says
Yup, it will! It should hit shelves soon!
Nina says
yay! hopefully around easter-ish! so i am free from the shopping ban!
Christy says
Interesting that one won’t necessarily get the shade based on their skin tone but their skin type. That being said, I think Baked would be too dark for me (but I like the matte finish).
Karen says
You might want to check out Too Faced Chocolate Soleil or Benefit Hoola. 🙂
Katrina says
Oooh pretty! I will have to check these out. I have JUST ventured into bronzer territory with Benefit’s Hula, now I may want to try some shimmer!
Karen says
Benefit’s Hoola is so great! One of my faves. 🙂

Question – Does Sephora have a friends and family event, and do you know when it is? There are some things that were not available this week at Ulta during their event, that I am hoping to pick up soon at Sephora if they have a friends and family event, and if they do…do I have to be part of a rewards program or on their email list or anything?
Karen says
Hi Melissa,
It usually happens in the fall in late October. I don’t think you have to be part of a rewards program. All you need is your coupon code.
Melissa says
Ok! Great! Well then it looks like I am taking advantage of Ulta’s FF right now and picking me up the Naked Palette by UD…I just had a friend tell me that they don’t like UD’s eyeshadows, but I have heard so much good about it. And I have dark brown eyes that neutrals love! This palette is just so pretty! (Although I also want to buy the Feminie Palette too…:/)
Melissa says
Well…I went and got the palette…LOVE IT! I just need some help with the right color combinations! 🙂 Darker colors really help bring my eyes out, the lighter colors don’t really work too well….any suggestions from anyone would be great! 🙂 what colors work well for you, where to put them, and all that jazz!
Joanne says
Gilded and Baked looks great! I’ve never tried using a bronzer wet before so I might have to experiment for a while. =D I have a blush brush from Sephora that I’ll try this with!
Karen says
Sounds good, Joanne. Have fun experimenting!
Chris25 says
Toasted looks like my shade. 🙂
Karen says
🙂 I like that one too.
Vijaya says
Neat to know that toasted is matte; a friend of mine needs a matte bronzer!
Karen says
Awesome! Other mattes to consider are Benefit Hoola and Too Faced Chocolate Soleil.
Vijaya says
Thanks so much for letting me know! My friend’s had a lot of trouble finding matte bronzers, so this info’ll make her DAY!
Appu says
Oh wow! I like the matte one…Ulta has a F&F going on right now but not sure if these are available yet 🙁
Karen says
I think it’s going to be a while before they actually hit shelves.
Kim says
What is it with products and emphasizing fine lines this week? 🙂 I know that Toasted would be too dark for me but I think this year will be the one in which I finally try a bronzer. I’ll just have to check out some more compatible (with my skin) options.
Karen says
Yes! Bronzers open up a whole new world of makeup obsession. 🙂 Hmm, let’s see… You might want to check out Too Faced Pink Leopard or Benefit Hoola! They both look great on lighter to medium skin.
Kim says
Awesome, thanks! I’ve added them to my list. 🙂
gio says
They are very pretty but I don’t think they’ll work on my pale skin. Most bronzers usually look too orange or muddy on me.
Karen says
Hi Gio,
You might want to give ’em a go anyway! You never know.
Emily says
Wow these all look so great! I don’t think I could decide. I really like that the offer silver shimmer in one of them, that is really different than the usual gold shimmer. I am really getting turned onto Urban Decay lately!
vnssa906 says
<3 I want Baked! I can't wait to apply some bronzer again .. It seemed weird for me to wear it in the winter with my pale skin! Lol
Jen says
Are these the same as the bronzers they have out now, but in new packaging, or have they reformulated them? I haven’t tried the older ones, so it’s not like I can compare them, but I was just curious.
Mandy says
Tabs is such a good model, helping out with showing off these products…
Elle says
How do you think Toasted compares in color to Chanel’s Bronze Universal? Do you think it could be a good substitute?
Ana says
I’m a NC35-NC40 can you recommend a shade for me?
Karen says
Any of the three would worked, but I love Toasted (and I’m an NC42).
