Pair It Up: Kick Your Summer Makeup Repertoire Into High Gear With Matching Lips and Tips

June 13th, 2013 by Karen 27 Comments

Five of summer’s must-have lip and tip combos

This summer inspiration is brought to you by Target. Find more fun and surprises all season long on Target’s #SummerUp Pinterest board.

Lounging languidly beside any pools this summer? Planning any barbecues at the beach? Don’t forget those all-important warm-weather essentials like your swimsuit, big floppy hat, sunscreen, cooler filled with drinks and snacks, and of course, your matching lips and tips. 🙂

Some among us may argue that those last two items aren’t summer fun essentials. Either way, I sure do love bright nails and lips this time of year, especially when they match!

Gotta get that quick burst of color from your fingers as you write your name in the sand, or blow kisses into your camera phone as you snap a quick selfie to send to your sweetie (“Wish you were here, boo!”).

I searched high and low for a few fun, affordable combinations to wear this summer and combed through countless contenders (a tough job, but someone had to do it) to come up with the following five trendsetting color combos.

You don’t have to pay Dolce & Gabbana prices to look fashionable and fab. These five lip and tip pairings are available now at Target stores and online at target.com.

Look 1: Fruit salad

L’OREAL Colour Riche Le Gloss in Peach Fuzz ($5.99) and Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Fast Dry Nail Color in Lickety-Split Lime ($3.80); Xhilaration Neon Floppy Hat ($14.99)

This juicy combo with lime green nails and lush peach lips begs to be worn with umbrella drinks and on lazy days by the pool.

Look 2: Playful purple

Revlon Super Lustrous Gloss in Sugar Violet ($5.99) and COVERGIRL Outlast Saty Brilliant Glosstini in Purple Freeze ($2.99); Mossimo Purple Fedora ($14.99)

Nothing says “fun in the sun” quite like shiny purple tips and shimmery violet lips.

Look 3: Think hot pink

Pixi Tinted Brilliance Balm in No. 1 Unique Pink ($16) and Pixi Nail Colour in Summer Pink ($8); Merona White Floppy Hat ($14.99)

Where my pink girls at? This pink pair balances hot pink fluorescent nails with just-kissed pink lips.

Look 4: Orange you glad?

Coral shade from the Sonia Kashuk Lip & Cheek Palette ($15) and COVERGIRL Outlast Stay Brilliant Glossini Polish in Orange Oasis ($2.99); Merona Navy Floppy Hat ($14.99)

Creamy orange nails and a coral lip!? I think this particular pairing looks ferociously fetching when worn with crisp, summery ivories and/or nautical navy blues.

Look 5: Yellow, it’s me

Revlon Colorburst Gloss in Strawberry ($5.99) and Maybelline Color Show Nail Lacquer in Fierce N Tangy ($2.99); Mossimo Teal Fedora ($12.99)

You could stop traffic with these show-stopping yellow nails and glossy strawberry lips. This combo always demands attention. 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I’m not sure I’m feeling the bright colors for everyday folk like myself but on you? STELLAR !

I don’t think they’re so bright that you would look “too much” wearing them. They sure are colorful but nothing you can’t pull off yourself! People don’t even care, it’s all about having fun for YOU!

Yes! I say just try it! A lot of these shades are very affordable, so even if you try it and don’t like it, it’s not like you’re out a Chanel nail polish or anything. I think the Sally Hansen Insta Dri polish is a hidden gem, myself.

I love how you’ve done the photos for these combos – so bright and summery! My other take-away is that you have a hella lotta hats. 😉 Seriously, though, super-cute post. It makes me *almost* think of wearing bright polish and gloss.

      Hi Kim,

LOL, I guess I’m a hat girl. It’s not as intense as it was in high school, though. I went through a phase freshman year where I wore hats every day.

Oh, and I know somewhere deep inside you there’s a gal who would rock crazy nails in a minute!

How’s the weather out there today? Hope it’s getting better. It’s just before 7 here and it looks like clear skies, yes!

You’re lucky – you have a good face for hats. Not everyone can pull it off (I definitely can’t – I have a tiny head – HAHA!).

I would definitely consider crazy toenails! 🙂

It’s clearing up, thankfully. We’ve had quite a bit of rain this week. Tonight is our Relay for Life so we’re crossing our fingers for good weather. We have a golf tournament tomorrow, too. So, truth be told, that’ll be the better day to NOT have rain. 🙂 Any fun, weekend plans? Are you going to see Man of Steel?

What a cute post, Karen! You look adorable in those hats! I love the yellow nail combo, that lipgloss looks yummy. I will have to get it next time I am at Target 🙂

      Hi Agata,

Glad you liked this one. I’m a hat kinda girl, how about you?

Hope you’re having a nice day so far. It’s early here on the west coast (just before 7) and I’m waiting for my coffee to brew. Breakfast Blend by Archer Farms!

It’s nothing new, but I like Butter London’s slapper when I’m in the mood for something bold. I’m big into turquoise.

That shade is really pretty. I’m a Butter London Poole girl myself. 🙂

Have you ever tried Essie’s Where’s My Chauffeur? You might like it if you’re into the turquoise/teal shades:

I love the pairings! But I need help! Karen, I have new, beautiful coral Cole Hahn sandals ( the color is labeled “Shrimp”!). What color should I paint my toes?
Reds, pinks, blues- all look kindergarten-ish!

How about a shimmery gold or bronze? Or how about a creamy teal?

Love love love the hats and fun photos! I’m on the hunt for the perfect hat this summer, but with the frequent cool winds we have in San Francisco, I need a hat that will stay the heck on my head! Anyhoo, I’ll be summery tomorrow at work with OPI’s Dim Sum Plum on my nails, and a purpley/plummy lippy to match.
