Shocker of all shockers (I’m serious, you may want to sit down for this), I was running late yesterday to go to my parents’ house for Super Bowl Sunday. 🙂
I know! — me, running late? Can you imagine? Haha, but seriously, I was running late, so I just threw some makeup into a bag to get ready in the car on the drive over to their house about an hour away.
One of the things I put into that bag was NYX’s new Dream Catcher Palette in Dusk ‘Til Dawn, one of three $15 limited edition eyeshadow palettes made to be, so says NYX, the answer to your shimmery dreams (assuming, of course, that there’s a lot of shimmering in your dreams).
Well, as far as any dreams I’ve ever had in which I’m putting on my makeup in the car (and there have been a few)…this palette probably would have helped. It does seem ideal for makeup-in-the-car dreams, particularly for ladies (and lords) who like how they look in warm-toned neutrals.
Ten baked shadows in warm shades of gold, brown and beige, along with a sprinkling of purple and black, reside inside. I ended up doing a shimmery gold and brown smokey eye in the car, and I, despite the bobbing of the car as we crossed the Richmond Bridge, I didn’t have to contend with any fallout or battle with my blending.
If this palette were a story, it would totally be an action/adventure movie about shimmer. So. Many of these shadows shimmer, intensely, even though I know it’s kind of hard to tell from these pics (sorry, I tried but couldn’t figure out how to really do justice to the intensity of the shimmer in pics).
Many have a very bold, shiny finish, which, on the one hand, I like because it’s…pretty, the way they glimmer and sparkle in the light, but wearing them from lash line up to brow bone can be a bit challenging, especially if you have some fine line action happening (like I do).
There are also a few matte-esque shades here (like a beige, a taupe and a black), but even they have something of a sheen.
Whenever I take this palette out for a spin, I’ll probably apply the shadows directly on my lids, and then do a matte in my crease to help balance out the frostiness of the shadows.
Also, if you plan to wear these shadows on a really loooong day (like upwards of 12 or more hours), you might want to keep the palette on you for touchups, because while these bad boys do last a good, long while on my lids, I do notice some fading and see the product start to break up in and around the fine lines on my lids at around the 6-7 hour mark.
The Dream Catcher Eyeshadow Palette in Dusk Til Dawn is available now at NYX counters, Ulta stores and ulta.com for a very reasonable $15.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

The palette itself is so cute! I like the colors, but holy shimmer, Batman! I can see using this mostly with a wet brush and as an accent on a look with other shadows to help balance the intense frost from the NYX shadows.

I love NYX. I have quite a few eyeshadows by them. Someone working at Ulta had told me that NYX is run by Smashbox. It would definitely explain the similarities in both brands. NYX is one of the higher quality drugstore brands out there, though each drugstore brand has something I love.

That lip combo!!! Whenever those glosses make their way to my sephora, I’m definitely getting that one. You are so gorgeous, your makeup application is amazing.

I dunno .. this palette just seems so .. dull. The colors all look too muted to me. Oh, well .. it’s just another neutral palette on the market.
Monica.

Oh, my gosh, get out of town. You were *not* running late, were you? 🙂 I think these shadows look really good on you – I know they’d be too frosty for me but I don’t see any fine lines on you.
