OK, so maybe NYX’s new Baked Shadows are neither nutritious nor delicious, but they are a treat, and where else can you get a baked dessert this good for $6?
$6… I almost can’t believe that price is real. Almost. Hey, this is NYX. Everything on their makeup menu is super affordable.
Oh! — and calorie-free, which makes my muffin top shimmy with joy/relief. 🙂
First things first, like NYX’s new Baked Blushes (and many other delicious desserts), these have a crunchy outer shell, beneath which exists the really good stuff. Break through the crust (seriously, what’s up with that?), and you’re rewarded with eyeshadows utterly devoid of fallout.
Zero. Zip. Nada.
And blending these shadows is easier than saying “yes, please” to a second brownie. Buffing and softening lines between these eyeshadow colors is a total cakewalk. All it takes is a few swipes of my trusty blending brush.
And the finish? It softly glimmers, and I appreciate how it kindly steers clear of my fine lines.
For a subtle candlelit look, I like to wear these shadows dry, but you could ramp up the intensity by applying them with a wet brush. Layered on top of my favorite NARS eye primer, NARS Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base, they last all day, which is sweet!
They’re available now in 33 shades, so whether you’re nuts about neutrals or burning for bold brights, you should find something to like. Look for the new NYX Baked Shadows at drugstores, Ulta and nyxcosmetics.com.
PRICE: $6
AVAILABILITY: Available now at drugstores, Ulta and online

The Under Construction Chronicles, Day 2
Today was much quieter than yesterday, praise King Tabby for that, except for a brief symphony of jackhammers, or some other terrible tools, in the late afternoon. Other than that, though, not bad. The pulsing in my brain has subsided to a low hum, and I haven’t gone crazy (yet).
How were things on your end of the keyboard? I hope they were good. It’s almost Friday (YES!).
Are you doing anything this weekend? Does your family watch the Super Bowl? We’re heading over to my parents’ house in the East Bay to BBQ and watch the game, and I think I’m going to try to make homemade veggie burgers…
I just have to find a good recipe. If you have one, please let me know.
I love a good veggie burger… I’ve never made one myself, but I have had a couple that actually made me swoon. The one at The Counter, which is this burger joint I go to sometimes in Southern Marin, is so good it should be illegal.
Best veggie burger this side of the Rockies. Hands down. (Not that I’ve tried every one…although I would.)
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. Sleep well, my friend. I’ll see you on Friday. 🙂

Happy Friday! Do you watch Parks & Recreation? I caught some eps during a marathon a month or so ago and thought it was a really funny show. One of them was about a burger contest (veggie vs beef). Now, whenever I think of veggie burgers, I think of that and laugh.
We’re definitely watching the SB and cheering my beloved Peyton Manning! Remember the Seahawks eliminated the Niners so you totally need to cheer for Denver! 🙂
The NXY crust must be to keep them from crumbling during shipping. Someone was genius with the whole “baked” thing. HAHA! They’re super pretty and how can you beat $6??

Very pretty! Worth a try for shades that I want to have but know I won’t use that much. I like that there’s no fall out.
