I haven’t baked anything in ages, but right now I’m in the mood. (Ooh…maybe a pan of gooey brownies.)
Normally, I would blame a sudden urge like this on PMS, but not today. Today the cause is NYX.
Their new line of Baked Blushes is just as sweet as can be (and they’re only $7 each), from the darling black bow on the front closure to the dainty shades. The pink, peach and tan ones here look almost as good as frosted cupcakes.
They’re designed to be applied wet (for more oomph) or dry. I prefer dry because I think they look a little more delicate that way.
After playing with four of the 12 shades, I came away impressed…but only after I broke through their tough outer layer. Like my BFF Cindy’s personality, they’re tough on the outside, but sweet and gentle on the inside. 🙂 Just gotta chip away at that bad-@ss exterior, which doesn’t take much to get through (I swirled a dense kabuki brush around for a minute or two in each pan).
After you shave off that top layer, eureka! — makeup gold. You reach a soft, easy-to-blend powder with a radiant sheen. Two or three layers quickly blended with a blending brush creates a lovely flush, and it doesn’t look like you’ve tried too hard.
Yup, I think these blushes would be total heartbreakers if it wasn’t for the sketchy wear time… Even on my dry cheeks, which usually hang on to everything, I only get from 4-5 hours.
Still, I wouldn’t mind reapplying at all if the packaging was sleeker. Don’t get me wrong — I think the boxes are adorable, but they’re also bulkier than Tabs when he strikes his Jabba the Hutt pose…
I also get the sense, because they’re very soft, that the powders could break quite easily (once you get through the exterior layer), so I don’t think I’ll just be tossing them into a crowded makeup bag.
PRICE: $7 for a 0.23-oz pan
AVAILABILITY: Available now at drugstores, Ulta and nyxcosmetics.com

Do you hear that…?
Great Caesar’s ghost, it was loud in here today! But it’s quiet now, finally.
Sweet, blissful quiet…until tomorrow morning when the construction resumes at 8.
Yup, not sure I’m gonna make it through two weeks of this, LOL! And silly me, thinking it was hard to concentrate back when the noise was coming from the neighbor’s house. It’s even harder when the hammering is on your walls!
Doopdadoo…
On the #glasshalffull side, I did find some interesting white noise videos on YouTube today. Here’s a cool one of hard rain that goes on for, like, 10 hours.
I might have to stress shop tonight at Target, and if a few goodies fall into my basket while I’m buying almond milk (SMOOTHIES!!!), so be it.
Hope your day was lovely and, um, quieter than mine. 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Your base looks gorgeous. I had to comment!! <3 and the blushes look so pretty especially wanderlust. Too bad about the longevity.
The foundation junkie inside me wants to know what is it?

Our loved her outfit this beautiful, you do not get tired of being nice, I think you’re our radiant in all the photos.
Alias want to tell you one thing Karen, you are my inspiration, I love the way you live and love cats, I’m also well (I’m four stray cats) and I like to always live in the power of good and positivism.

Tabbys always charming, love it!
A huge kiss to you both <3

These are really cute, and the colours are pretty! It’s a real shame that the wear time falls so short…although at least it’s not an expensive blush.

These are cute, but the wear time? Eh… Blushes tend to be the first thing I spend more money on to get longer wear.

Guuuuurl. These sound like a nightmare in the pan (tough outer layer? 4-5 hour wear time?!), but the packaging is FAB. I’m crazy about clear panels + emphasized edges, and the shade range that these launched with looks like it has a lot of great, light pinks in it.
Fingers crossed that these’ll be coming to Canada!

Oh these looks preeetty! I thought Foreplay would be my favorite but then looking at the swatches it might be Ignite.

That is too bad about the wear time, they are so nice for the money!

I’ve lately been burned by a few drugstore products and am getting a little gun shy. I see the $7 and beautiful colors and wonder…but I don’t want to reapply after 3 or 4 hours. Who has time? To try these or not? I love foreplay!

I feel your pain, lady. Hubs and I just went through a 5 week bathroom renovations (no reason it should have taken that long – the company was ridiculously slow and we shall politely leave it at that ). However they would show up at 7 am on the dot the days they worked in order to exercise and shower I had to get up at 5…and if I did not need to go into the salon until later cat naps (doggie naps?) Were next to impossible w banging and drilling going on in the next room. So hang in there Miss Karen., if I lived on the west coast I would join you at target for that stress shopping- when the pup was at daycare for the day it is where I ventured off to for “peace of mind”

I love your scarf Karen 🙂 so pretty! The blushes look really pretty, NYX stuff is always good.

Oh, I hear you. I hate it when powders have a baked on, caked on, crusty top layer.
And from the last “bad makeup do-over” comment, I forgot to add that 80s blush look. You might remember – it was basically one wide line angled from under your cheekbone to the hairline above your ear. I’m embarrassed just typing this. HAHA!

I ordered one of these along with some of the other new NYX stuff to try out, can’t wait for them to get here! Glad you did swatches cause they are the first I’ve seen 😀

I LOVE your lipstick in the above photos! What colour & brand is it, if you don’t mind my asking. I”ve been looking for exactly that colour and have found a few – but nothing like what you’re wearing.
Thank you so much!
