It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of juiciness, it was the age of fiber, it was the epoch of watermelon…
It was July 2011.
In one month, I kid you not, I must’ve eaten at least 10 extra large watermelons all by myself.
‘Twas glorious! And I was, um — well, let me just put it this way: the kids were regularly getting dropped off at school, if you know what I mean.
You know, regularly? 🙂
If these new 2014 Milani Color Statement Lipsticks had been around back then (during what I call “The Great Watermelon Caper of 2011”), I may have felt differently about their watermelon flavor and scent than I do now.
Maybe. OK, probably not. There’s just something a little…plastic and synthetic about the way they taste and smell to me. Maybe it’s just me (flavors/scents are very personal, after all), but I can’t get over it. When I catch a whiff, I can still smell it hours later (OK, more like 30 minutes).
These six potently pigmented shades are new additions to the existing line (released with the rest of Milani’s spring collection), and the colors seem kind of rando-o to me. As a group, they don’t strike me as particularly springy, but I really like some of the shades, like Pink Love, which is the one up there at the top of this post.
If Milani ever eighty-sixes the flavor and scent, I’ll be all over these like a cat on catnip. 🙂
I think these lipsticks have a lot to offer budget-loving babes. First, the full-coverage, uber-creamy formula comes in a bunch of colors. Second, they’re only $5.49 a pop!
The six new shades here, along with the rest of the Milani Color Statement Lipstick line, are available now at CVS stores and milanicosmetics.com.
NOVATO — New discovery at Trader Joe’s leaves hungry cat lady drooling
I gotta give it up to El Hub. While out fishing for noms at Trader Joe’s the other day, he caught a package of Wild Marinated Soy Ginger Cod Fillets in the frozen food section ($6.99 a pound, which isn’t bad considering they come pre-marinated).
He’s a very good fisherman. 🙂
I defrosted the package overnight in the fridge and baked the fish for dinner last night (but you could also pan fry or microwave ’em).
So, SO tasty. I’m not usually a big ginger fan, either, but it was quite delicious here…
It only took about 12-15 minutes in the oven at 375 degrees.
Just add rice and maybe some broccoli, and you can dinner on the table in less than 20.
Huzzah for TJ’s!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Ooh, I love that Cinnamon Spice color! But I hate watermelon. Hmmm. What to do, what to do…
Erin says
I like the color selection for these, but will probably just try one at first and see if I can handle the scent! I’ll probably start with Cinnamon Spice, even though the combination of a cinnamon name and a melon scent might mess with my head.

They’re all nice colours, but the majority of them do not scream “spring!” to me in any way.
Gowthami says
Beautiful colors!! I love natural pretty 🙂

These look lovely! Especially Sugar Glaze. It’s a shame they went for such an aggressive scent, though, since watermelon scented things tend to be quite strong anyway!

OMG, “the epoch of watermelon”! Ha ha! I remember that Summer of Watermelon. You were mainlining melons like a blue meth junkie! It was awesome. I have two of these from the permanent colletion and the pigmentation and value is fantastic, but yes, the scent is SO strong! You do save calories by skipping the watermelon Jolly Ranchers when you’re wearing these, though! 😉

I’m with you on the scent. It’s the reason my Color Statements don’t see more love.
Jennifer says
Nice colors but a few of them worry me for my much lighter skin tone.

There are some pretty colors here and I believe you when you say that the formula is smooth. Something about them makes me feel like they’re lacking in moisture, though.
Marisa says
Nice colors, Love them all, especially Cabaret Blend.
Polarbelle says
That’s unfortunate!! The colors are pretty but I CAN’T use anything that us fake watermelon or melon scented or flavored. Ugh, no. Can’t. It’s a shame.
Erica says
Cabernet blend 40 and Rose Femme are very pretty! I don’t understand the strong “watermelon ” smell, but I do love Milani lipsticks – in moderation.
hanna says
Its too bad about the taste/smell because they’re really cute colors.

Love the shades, but I’m not a huge fan of the Milani scent. You have me really excited now because we are finally getting Trader Joe’s in Boca Raton! This Christmas I will be able to buy many boxes of the Peppermint Joe Joes!

The smell is a little stronger than most lipsticks but I still just love these lipsticks! Then again I don’t really have a sensitive nose so it’s rare for a beauty product to really offend me lol. Cabaret Blend and Pink Blend are my faves on you! I think I want them all except the last one. I really can’t wait to add more shades to my collection!
