Alright, did someone sneak in a second Monday today? Yeesh! I had a tough Tuesday, ladies. Couldn’t focus worth squat. I felt like a cat in a thunder storm — perpetually on edge and ready to freak out. The only headway I made all day was with these newly reformulated Dior Addict lipsticks ($28 each). I say headway because I actually tried them on my lips.
Dior refers to these as iconic, a gutsy claim if we were talking about a different company, but Dior gets a pass from me for marketing speak like that. That’s how much I like the brand. Their corny tagline, on the other hand, I think I’ll gently tease: “A declaration of love between beauty and style, color and couture, and Dior and its addicts.” Come on, guys. You can do better than that. 🙂
I counted 44 shades on their website and tried three of them today. The new formula seems slightly thicker and more pigmented to me than the old one did. I could wax philosophic about how hydrating and extraordinarily shiny these heavenly bobbins are, but wax is one thing these lipsticks don’t do. Well, they do, but they do it less than usual, which is to say that they’re made with 25% less wax than classic lipsticks are.
Interesting, but I’m actually not sure if that’s good or bad. The formula, Dior says, contains an intensely hydrating, plumping gel. I do find them quite hydrating, but I didn’t notice much of a plumping effect…on my lips.
My eyes, however, must have doubled in size when I saw their chic packaging.
Their pretty tubes next to an iPhone for scale…
From left: 578, 972 and 465
Swatches from left: 972, 465 and 578
Wearing 972 on lips
465
578
I can’t speak to wear time yet, but I will say I’m not a big fan of the price. They’re kind of expensive, but it is Dior…
If you’re thinking of adopting a tube, there’s a pretty good deal right now on purchases made through Dior.com. Now through April 30, you get a complimentary travel-size Diorshow Extase Mascara with any Dior Addict lipstick purchase. Just enter promo code ADDICT2011 at checkout.
Now, I have a pity party I must attend and a bucket of frozen yogurt I should imbibe. 🙂 Tabs, my dear cat, Mommy needs lurvies.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
Inday says
465 & 578 are very, very nice, but $28? *wallet snapping shut with a shudder*
You are looking gorgeous as usual Karen! Hope Tabs & the fro-yo improve your evening – I’m sending lurvies your way as well!
Erin says
I picked up Model 564 and Tulle 214 today!! Love them soooooooooo much!
Judy says
LOVING 972 😀 expensive but worth it?
Paris B says
I’m loving the new Dior Addict lipsticks! I am loving Tango 652 which I think will look fab on you. I also have Icone, but I can’t remember the number (I’m so bad with numbers). I love how 465 and 578 look on you 😀
vonnie says
578 is amazing!!!!! wow, that looks killer on you, just stunning
Karen says
Thanks, Vonnie! 🙂
Tracy says
I hope you feel better after the Tabs and Yogurt love!
Those are pretty and shiny! How do they compare to the Chanel Rouge Coco Shines? I love mine in Boy a lot!
Karen says
Hi Tracy,
The Tabs and yogurt love combo is a surefire pick me up. 🙂
That’s a good question re: the Rouge Coco Shines… they actually feel very similar. I’d say these might be a touch more pigmented and moisturizing.
Vijaya says
578 in particular looks AMAZING on you. <3
Karen says
Do you think you might pick it up, Vijaya?
Molly says
578 looks so good on you! I hope I can pull it off 🙂
Karen says
You can do it! 🙂
dani@callitbeauty says
578 looks STUNNING on you :).
Karen says
🙂 Thanks, Dani!
Vanessa says
These are so pretty! The last color looks perfect on you, it warms up your skin and makes you look so very chic 🙂
Karen says
Thanks, Vanessa. 🙂 Have a great day!
gio says
578 looks beautiful! 🙂
Karen says
Ooh, that’s Dior Kiss! 🙂
Cassie says
Mmm…J’adore Dior!
The colours look so scrummy delish on your lips and I’m loving the packaging. 465 is screaming for a place in my collection but I haven’t actually dared to look for the price yet. All I’m thinking is…it can’t be worse than Tom Ford. Can it???
Karen says
LOL, the price of those Tom Ford lippies totally HURTS!
Sara flemmIng says
I have tried these and lovvvvvve them as well but I don’t find try last more than twenty minutes on me 🙁
Karen says
Yeah, they’re not exactly long lasting, unfortch. Hmm, have you tried lining and filling in your lips with a nude lip pencil first? That should help up your wear time.
Nina says
the colors look so lovely and it makes me want these lipsticks. so bad! 🙂
Karen says
I think it’s the shine! It’s like a siren call. 🙂
Kelli says
They are gorgeous but you can find similar colors at the drugstore. They have really stepped up their game.
Karen says
True, true… it’s nice if you’re in the mood for a splurge!
Alka says
These look gorgeous! I could actually see myself paying that price for a Holy Grail nude, princess perfect pink or that just right red. I was a big fan of MAC slimshines but this packaging is way better! Definitely going to check these out.
Michelle says
I have a soft pink shade (can’t remember the number right now) and I love it. It gives the lips a gorgeous sheen — and you can just apply it with no liner. Great to throw in your purse and have it for touch ups. It isn’t as long lasting as other lipsticks on me, but I love to reapply because it feels so fabulous on!
Those colors all look great on you!! Now, for the Chanel Coco Shines to come out (can’t wait!!)!
Karen says
Hi Michelle,
Did you ever pick up the Coco Shine in Boy?
Michelle says
I didn’t, but I’ve been eyeing Fetiche, Evasion, Chance, Adventure, and Romance . . . ummm, yikes!! I am loving these glossy colors!
lia says
really liking the packaging on these! Usually I’m a fan of simple, straightforward packaging with no frills, but I kinda like these. Too bad they’re out of my price range!
Karen says
Hmm, it might be something to put on Sephora wish list then. Hopefully they’ll run a friends & family sale soon so you can get them on discount.
Lulle says
I just bought the 763, and it’s a killer! I have pictures of it in my blog, but it’s a lot more sparkly than it looks on my lips (took the picture in the evening, not good lighting).
Karen says
Good to know, thanks Lulle! 🙂
Maddie says
I bought two of the Sephora-exclusive shades last month (Backstage 583 and Taffetas 566), and they’re gorgeous. I had never bought anything from Dior before, but this packaging and the fab shades caught my eye. The pigmentation and the gel-like feel of this formula are great I plan to buy more shades, too!
Karen says
Awesome, Maddie! What colors do you have your eye on?
Maddie says
I’m looking at Basic 253 and Pink Cherie 368. I want to stop by Sephora and check them out in person soon!
Landers says
I want to try so bad now!! It looks so pretty…. I’m a sucker for Dior’s packaging!! dangit!! haha
Karen says
They have great packaging design! 🙂
Liz says
The colors are very pretty. I will say I also am not a fan of the price tag and the packaging, although I guess kind of pretty, looks a bit clunky.
– Liz
Karen says
The price tag hurts. That’s Dior for you, sigh.
Michelle says
Karen, I mean to ask in my previous post — do you know the name of 972 and 465? Hitting up the Dior counter today!
Karen says
Hi Michelle,
972 is Rose Shocking and 465 is Singulière. Have fun at the counter today and let me know if you find anything good. 🙂
Jessi (Lacquered, Painted, Polished) says
I really need to get myself over to the high end counters. I was always intimidated when I was younger because I didn’t have as much money to spend and I was afraid they were judging me (I still don’t have much money to spend, but I’m a lot more confident with myself). Also, I considered them “old lady” make up brands but from everything I have seen that is not the case.
Karen says
You should check them out! There’s a lot of good stuff.
Jennifer says
You’re so beautiful Karen!!!
I was just wondering, are they really hydrating? I have the WORSE problem ever with lipstick and lip gloss. I usually just stick with my Chapstick. Not only do lipsticks and lip gloss make my lips so dry, they also make me DEAD thirsty (talk about sucking ALL of the water out of me…). At first, I thought it was just the fact that we get thirsty after a while, but I tested it! And no, it’s not because I don’t drink enough water… It’s the EVIL lip stick/gloss!!!
Advah says
578 is pret-ty, you rock that colour! And the texture looks lovely and moisturising.
Good to know about those lipsticks and Chanel’s Boy collection (yes, that’s how I call it) – I’ve been planning on treating myself with one of those, if only I could make up my mind about the colour..!
Kim says
I really like 578 and the packaging is really cute. I’m not turned off by the price, but I’m just not feeling the lipstick love for some reason. Maybe it’s because I’m not a Dior addict, and that declaration was just for them. 😉
Anne says
Hi from a fellow DiorAddict addict 🙂 I just got Garconne (a Sephora excl) and Icone. I love 578 look on you! Now I’m thinking about getting it too. I’d never thought Dior Kiss looks that dark, it’s the color Kate Moss was wearing on the ad, right? Btw I love your blog!
