There are 57 (!) MAC Lipglasses in the permanent collection now ($17 each), and all of them just got new packaging/outfits.
Here are some fun facts you may or may not know about them…
- None of them start with the letter “F.”
- Two of them start with the word “love.” (Love Child and Love Nectar)
- Three of them start with the word “pink.” (Pink Lemonade, Pink Nouveau and Pinkarat)
- One of them is named after an insect. (Yellow Jacket)
- There are three “Rs” (not two) in Prrr.
- Several of them have color counterparts, like Russian Red (also a Lipstick), Impassioned (Lipstick) and Soar (a Lip Pencil).
- Even though it’s not in the permanent collection, once upon a time there was a shade called Evolution Revolution. ?
In addition to their even shinier outfits, they also got a little bigger (update: the new tubes hold 0.10 ounces, and the old Lipglass tubes held 0.17 ounces).
You’ll recognize your old faves among them, like Nymphette, Spite and Lychee Luxe…
Oh, wait! Those are my old faves. 🙂 The glosses themselves haven’t changed (same patent-leather shine and hella sticky vanilla-scented formula). They’re just wearing new outfits.

You have to tell me — what was the first Lipglass you ever wore?? If you can’t remember, what’s your current favorite?
My first was Spite! And my current favorite is my all-time favorite (well, one of my all-time favorites), Nymphette.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I’ve turned into really more of a lipstick person! But I’m due for a back 2 Mac exchange and I’m wondering if I should get Spite or Spice lipglass.
Karen says
Hi Rachel,
You can’t go wrong with either. Spite definitely has a late ’90s/early 2000s feel to it, and I love it for that.
Rachel says
That’s the problem- there’s so many to choose from! Thanks for the swatches!
Karen says
You’re welcome. I hope you’re having a nice night so far. It’s a rainy, wet one here in the Bay Area. The wind is howling! I hope the power doesn’t go out.
Elisabeth says
Oh Baby was my first! Reading this made me think I should go pick one up solely for nostalgia!
Karen says
Hi Elisabeth,
Oh Baby is one of my faves. It’s a summer staple. Try it sometime with Indianwood Paint Pot on the lids and Teddy or Costa Riche on the lash lines. A little bit of Sunbasque on the cheeks. It’s perfection!
Sandra says
Prrr was my gateway drug to a full-blown MAC addiction…. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Sandra,
I love that shade! I used to wear it with either a pinkish brown or a brown lip liner. 🙂
Sandra says
Wet N Wild #666 and Prrr were my 90’s thang….
Karen says
I used to wear WNW 666 with Clinique Black Honey in college, LOL! It was the combo of my sophomore year; I got the idea from my roommate!
Lily says
Spice is my favorite.
Karen says
Hi Lily,
That one’s super pretty. I think I’m going to wear it this weekend. Maybe with Gingerly blush! 🙂
Savannah says
Hmm, I actually can’t remember if it was pink lemonade or Russian red that was first. I put pink lemonade on top of Vegas volt and I really liked it. I like how soar looks and I might get it!
Petra says
Never had one… but i think i really need Rambunctious in my life. I have bern looking for a shade just like that one – had a maxfactor gloss almost that colour when i was in the 8th grade. It’s a fab spring colour for pale old me.
Thanks so much for the swatches! Have been looking good gloss swatches

My first MAC lipglass was a LE one called Star Quality. Or was it another kind of lipgloss? MAC tends to confuse me with the different names. It is the only one I almost finished, usually I am not a lip gloss person at all.
Julia says
Wow, what fantastic swatching! Oh Baby was my first lipgloss…I bought it at the same time I bought my first MAC lipstick which was Frenzy. My favorite lipglass of all time is Entice. I traded in several B2Ms for this one over the years. I’m sad to see it’s no longer around, it was the perfect peachy brown neutral.
Jacklyn says
Thanks for all the effort you put into swatching ALLLL the Lipglasses! I might have to pick up a tube of Nymphette for old times’ sake…
Ana Samuel says
Dear Karen the swatches are wonderful but maybe too close ups? Can’t really see the colour efect on the face. Thank you! Love your blog.
Sparkle says
The packaging itself is bigger, but there is actually less product now, it went from 0.17 US fl oz to 0.10 US fl oz. The new formula is pretty nice though, more moisturizing and less sticky. I got Dive Bar and plan on getting several more.
Karen says
Thank, Sparkle. I just updated the post with the info. Happy Friday to you!
Sami says
I loved your lip glass! I think that may have been my first Mac Lipglass ❤️ I also have nymphette and the lychee one you recommend. I love them both so so much!
Sonia says
Hi Karen,
Long time reader, sporadic commentator here. I rely on your blog primarily because I get to see how some of the latest makeup collections look against your skin tone (which is very similar to mine). And of course to catch up on tabs and his antics. However, it is very difficult to see what the lipstick/gloss looks like against your skin tone from these hyper blown-up images. Could you please switch back to your older style of photographing your full face with the lip swatches?
Kim says
Pink Lemonade was my first lipglass and I still love it. I really want to get Soar since I love that lip pencil!
Cheryl says
Spite was one of the first Mac products I ever purchased (along with Blushbaby blush)! It was early 2000’s when I was in college.
Polarbelle says
Prrr was my first when it came out withtheKitty Kat collection. Still a fave I appreciate your dedication in lip swatching each color. You glow, girl!!!!
Tatiana says
Wow!! How long did that take you? When I read the title in my email I thought you had swatched them on your arm. But lip swatches, with beautiful photos, very, very, very nice indeed!
I’ve never worn MAC Lipglass. I just don’t wear lipgloss. Don’t like the feel of it.
Karen says
Aww, thanks Tatiana. Glad you enjoyed the post!
To do everything, it took about a week and a half total. I had to parse all the tasks out over that time, otherwise I would’ve gone nuts, LOL!
Lupe says
I have never tried a lipglass before, but there are so many choices! Thanks for the swatches!
Astrid says
Holy moly Karen! Amazing work! My first MAC lipglass was the Viva Glam V. Also the first one I ran out of (actually ever. After that I got addicted and never really finish other lipglasses ?).
You remind me that Candy Yum Yum has a lipglass form that I wanted to try but kept forgetting!
Karen says
VGV is a classic. One of my fall-time faves!
Jennifer Emmett says
Fun to revisit this years later… love the sticky vanilla, such an endearing classic. I picked up Oyster Girl today.
