Buckle your makeup safety belt, and brace your cheeks, because we’re about to break through the blush barrier! On the other side, an Extra Dimension, where MAC’s liquid-powder blushes radiate light, and adhere to cheeks like second skin.
MAC’s new 16-piece In Extra Dimension collection of brushes and hybrid liquid-powder eye shadows, blushes and Skinfinishes touches down like a NASA lunar lander on counters April 11 (it’s already available online). Its destination? An exotic land of luminous skin, eyes and cheeks, and color that lasts up to six hours.
The Extra Dimension blushes ($25 for a 0.22-ounce pan) come in five shades that range from sheer satin to high-shine metallic.
I test piloted two of them last weekend, and based on that, if civilian inter-dimensional travel ever becomes a reality, I’d want my spacesuit to have a special pocket for Blazing Haute and Flaming Chic.
Both of ’em just look so darned natural on my skin (I think so) and actually last a full eight hours.
Here’s a closer look…
Blazing Haute: Nothing thrills my 30-something cheeks more than a peach blush with a pinch of juicy color and a velvety finish. The delicate pigment means I can’t muck things up too badly when I’m in a hurry, so no clown stripes (WHOOP!). Plus, the luster finish seems to brighten my face and erase a few years without pointing out the fact that my pores are at Defcon 3 now. Even better, Blazing Haute should look smokin’ hot on gals of all ages, since it’s neither very shiny nor sheer. It’s just right. MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A
Flaming Chic: So frightening in the pan! — but don’t let that scare you. This bright blush pink is surprisingly wearable. Like Blazing Haute, it’s probably more t-shirt and jeans than body-con dress and high heels, as it dusts cheeks with semi-transparent color, but it’s hot (picture the way your cheeks look when crush brushes your arm). 🙂 Lovely, natural and a perfect pairing for long, lush lashes and a lip stain. In other, totally unrelated news, I’m going through serious zombie withdrawals now that The Walking Dead season has ended…but at least we have Mad Men again.
Did you watch last night? Don and Megan’s trip to the Royal Hawaiian hotel made my heart ache… Ever since El Hub’s parents moved to the mainland, we don’t make it out to the islands too often anymore.
What did you think of episode? Looks like Don is just as rotten as usual, but what else is new?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I’m still catching up on Mad Men but the new season is all the buzz now ^^. I really love Flaming Chic, I knew I would like it! Although if I want to go out of my comfort zone I’d opt for the burnt red version, that one is really pretty as well! Looking really fierce with that lipstick btw!
Karen says
Hi Teri,
What season are you on? 🙂
Agata says
Wow, you look gorgeous girlfriend. These two blushes are my favorite from this collection. I kinda want the Blazing Haute.
Karen says
Thanks, lady! It’s the blushes…they make everything better. 🙂 I bet Blazing Haute would look great on you. Sweep a coppery shadow on your lids and you’d be set for summer date nights with your hubby.
Do you have your eye on anything else in this collection? I have a few of the eyeshadows, and they’re really pretty.
Agata says
What eyeshadow did you use for this look? I think UD Haf Baked and brown eyeliner would look good with the Blazing Haute!
I really want the blue eyeshadow from this collection. Recently I have been wanting a baby blue eyeshadow, I think it’d be pretty for the summertime.
Vanessa says
I like the dark lipstick, too. 🙂
Jealous! I’d love to wear that to work… ((but can’t)).
Karen says
Hi Vanessa,
Thank you! It’s from a new MAC lip palette. I’ll have the review up shortly with more swatches and pictures. 🙂
Maybe you could wear the color to work as a light stain? That would be pretty.
C'enna says
I wonder how these differ in formula compared to the regular blush. Both are pretty but Flaming Chic looks a tad more appealing to me. Btw you always look so chic. Thats the perfect word to describe you. So jealous!
Karen says
Hi C’enna,
Thank you; you’re so sweet!
Regarding this formula versus the regular powder blushes: the hybrid liquid/creams feel softer and seem to sit a little more smoothly on the skin. I’ve also noticed that I don’t have to blend as much with these either. Let me know if you have any other questions!
Sonya says
I thought Flaming Chic would be ultra intimidating… It translates surprisingly soft and pretty on the skin, though – I like!
Karen says
Hi Sonya,
Me too. I really love how wearable it is! 🙂

I DID see mad men last night and I have been DYING to talk to someone about it! haha!
I cannot believe DON! what a scumbag! I mean seriously? I don’t even like megan and I feel bad for her. She is totally going to leave him. and whats up with Betty? she is seriously nuts! I mean the comments about Sally’s friend to her husband were just EWWW! and where the heck is Joan? I was so looking forward to seeing her! Gosh I was just so disappointed after that 2 hr premiere I wanted to hurt someone – so I went and played around with make up instead to cheer myself up 🙂 haha!
Karen says
Hi Yelena,
I was REALLY annoyed by Don. I had a feeling toward the end of last season that he wouldn’t really be able to truly change, but still. Part of me wanted him to believe that he could be devoted to Megan. Sigh.
Why didn’t Betty scold that 15-year girl when she found her smoking in the kitchen in the middle of the night? And what was up with that scene with her husband? So weird… she’s going through some things, seeing how she changed her hair and all.
And yes, they better have more Joan ASAP or there’s going to be a revolt!
Yelena says
I have always had a huge crush on Don but I seriously wouldn’t be able to deal with him. Seems like he is never happy with any woman he marries or has an affair with. I really thought he would have gone long run with the psychologist who was tough and actually let his guard down for and be himself (well he had a nervous breakdown haha but that counts). Tsk tsk. oh well I hope to see more of Joan and less of Peggy, I’m kind of over her.
Sarah says
Flaming Chic is my mind of a blush. 🙂

I love how the Blazing Haute is a subtle look on you. Your lip color reminds me of MAC’s ‘Boyfriend Stealer’. I love a vampy look so I’m always reaching for it!
CrystalCandy says
I love both, but Flaming Chic is my favorite!
Kim says
Both colors are very pretty and it’s nice to know that they help camouflage the Defcon 3 pores. I could use that, too! 🙂
Mad Men is on my list to watch but I’m currently catching up on Breaking Bad. And by catching up, I mean I’ve watched the first 2 seasons on Netflix and have 2 to go! Do you watch BB, too?
Danielle says
I thought that all of the blushes in this collection were really nice! I may pick up a few of them. Thanks, Karen!
Bee says
Woww…. Flaming chic is now on my ‘need’ list.. LOL
I’m still on season 2 of mad men— got to catch up fast!!! btw- Don’s suits *drool*
I’m liking game of thrones too these days!
Joyce says
Blazing Haute reminds me of a metallic version of MAC Cream Soda, which came out in the Archie’s collection. Both look gorgeous. <3
Injla says
How does every single color and shade look sooooo good on you?? :p I have the same complexion as yours, but most “in-trend” colors would not suit me! Sad 🙁
Ok so I have a question too, if you were abandoned on an island question, would you prefer MAC Blazing Chic or Tarte Amazonian Clay Natural beauty? Which is better in terms of texture and quality?
vineetha says
Oh I loved both the shades! u rock it Karen!!!
vineetha says
Blazing haute :-))
Jennifer says
Both are so pretty!
