MAC Fafi and Laura Mercier Gold Digger for a Warm Weather Face of the Day

Published in: Face of the Day (FOTD), MAC Makeup, Makeup

In typical Bay Area fashion, grey, overcast skies quickly replaced the sunny, warm weather we’d had for a few days, but I refuse to let go! I wasn’t up for this uber-red MAC look here, but I still wanted to try something bright and lively. So, this morning I gave this summery bronze and gold eye a try, featuring colors from the MAC Fafi and Laura Mercier Gold Digger collections. I first thought about going for broke with false eyelashes, too, but those will have to wait ’til next time.

Matte coral cheeks and shimmery coral lips complete the look. Now, all I need is a warm beach, a pair of flip flops and a large Jamba Juice (Orange Dream Machine, yum)!

Once again, we find ourselves face-to-face with Monday (boo!). To conquer the day ahead, I’ve got a few things planned. First, I’m having a couple of sips of an Emergen-C and fruit juice cocktail to help perk me up. Later today, after work, I plan to visit a nearby French cafe.. I’m bringing with me an issue of Us Weekly (OMG! the magazine is like crack, ya’ll) and plan to sit and read for a few minutes with some herbal tea. I’m really looking forward to that little break after work. It helps make Monday morning easier to bear.

Has your Monday morning kicked off to a great start? I hope so. What makeup look are you rocking today?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Wow, pretty look! I love the shimmering bronzes :D Mondays (or should I say “Moandays”? LOL) so far have been chock-full of homework, laundry, and other boring chores. But I’ve been pulling throught cuz I know summer’s almost here, hooray! Have a great day, Karen.

  2. Karen says:

    Hey Abi,

Thank you! Shimmery bronzes are one of my faves for summer too. I’m with ya on pulling through… I can’t wait for summer and just wish it was here already. :) Have fun doing your homework and chores (there’s a lil bit of fun to be had in everything). Will you be rocking any makeup today? I hope so!

  3. Jousy says:

    Hi Karen!

Wow, this is such a pretty yet effortless-looking look :) I’ve been a fan of your site for a while now and I have to say that although I don’t wear makeup (*gasp!*), your FOTDs always make me want to start!

Keep up the great work and have a nice day :)

  5. You look so lovely for Monday! And I totally agree with US Weekly!
My mother-in-law subscribes so I’m always snatching it to catch the gossip. And I’m always scoping the mags during grocery checkout, lol.

    Hi Jousy,

Thank you for popping by and saying hi! :) It’s great to meet you. I love that you read the site even though you don’t wear makeup… and maybe someday I’ll convince you to pick up at least one tube of lipgloss (every one needs just one tube!). ;)

You have a good day too! Anything exciting going on for this Monday?

  7. Karen says:

    Marina!!!

Girl, I am hella behind on my emails but I did get your message. I might be avail on Thursday (my friend needs me to dancing with him) or sometime on Sat. or Sun.

I hope it stays sunny for your trip. Be sure to wear layers…

  8. Karen says:

    Hi Lynne,

LOL, so I never read gossip mags but the very first US Weekly I ever read was just a few weeks ago, and I swear I stayed up until 1:00 reading it cover to cover. It’s like candy for your brain. Do your in-laws live near by? That must be handy with the babies!

OH, I am wearing the Mineralize Loose Foundation today for the first time. It’s weird how it doesn’t sparkle once you actually get it on your face!

  9. Jaclyn says:

Karen, look at you! you bronzed babe! Love it!

    Hi Jacyln!

Thank you, sweetie. Gotta love the bronze on tan skin for the summer time. How are things with you? Been working out lately? :)

  11. Glosslizard says:

Beautiful! So perfect for the weather we just had (more please?)! I especially love the bronzed gold drawing pencil on you!

Hope your Monday is as good as it can be! :)

  12. Karen says:

    Hi Glosslizard,

Thank you! The drawing pencil feels wonderful on the waterline. It’s so soft, deposits a ton of color and I don’t have to tug at all. I am loving it and I can’t wait to get more. How is it on your side of the Bay today? The sun finally came out here but it’s a little cool.

Monday is going grrrreeeat! I am full o’ coffee and just chugging along. How has your day been so far?

  13. We actually live WITH the in-laws, believe it or not. We’re renting out the townhouse that we have so that we can save some money, zero out the credit cards and such. ‘Specially with Hubbo starting school in Fall, we need to save as much as we can. My in-laws both work though so I’m home with the tykes during the day. But it’s awesome that Hubbo and I can at least get a dinner meal in only having to worry about one of them, hah.

So is that a good or bad thing that the Mineralize Foundation doesn’t sparkle? And what did you end up using for application?

hello, this is very pretty. u look super bright, awake and refreshed for a monday? i got off to a late start today, but i am back on track. today i had no time for makeup, just a little powder, paint pot, orche style shadow( yes only one color today) a small touch of mascara, mac lip moisturizer, and smashbox lipgloss. that’s an old navy shirt ur wearing?

  15. Karen says:

    Hi Lynne,

It must be nice to have the extra hands around to help with the babies, and I am sure your in-laws are thrilled to have you two and the grandbabies around (keeps things lively).

I’m glad there’s no sparkle. I was a little nervous when I first put it on my hand because dang it looked glittery, but on it’s very natural looking. I am crossing my fingers and hoping that it doesn’t break me out. Oh, I ended up using just the powder alone with the skunk brush.

What are you up to today?

  16. Karen says:

    Hi Tricia,

Girl, you got an eagle eye! Yes, that’s an Old Navy shirt! And I got it on sale (WOOT). I used to be hopelessly addicted to fashion a few years ago but now since I can wear whatever I want to work I usually end up in casual clothing. Do you have that shirt too? I kinda want to get another one in black!

Sounds like you were able to get a nice, natural look going even though you didn’t have time for lots of makeup! Aren’t those Paint Pots amazing for days when you have no time? I love one color eye looks sometimes, too, for days when I’m running late. What is your fave Paint Pot?

  17. Tonya says:

    Hey Karen,
You’re look is so warm and pretty. I just got back from my work trip to Florida, so I’m feeling a little sunny myself.

Hope you have a happy Monday.

  18. Eru says:

    Hey Karen!
You look really nice. (I love your t-shirt :D ) The Shu Uemura pencil looks charming. I think i need one -or two~-.
My monday was nice, since I don´t have lessons! I miss using eyeshadows from tuesday to friday. :( But for the Univ. it would be a bit too much.
*Sobs* I envy you girls. *sobs*

karen, things have been going good. I haven’t been working out these last 2 weeks since I had to be at work pretty much 2 weeks straight with only one day off in between. I plan on getting back on track tomorrow actually now that I’m rested and had the last 4 days off. The funny thing is I have lost 5 lbs in the last two weeks even though I haven’t had the chance to work out. must be the stress from work. HAHA!

  20. Karen says:

    Hi Tonya,

How was the trip? I hope you got to sneak in some fun while you were there. I am going to Florida in November for a wedding and I can’t wait (for both the wedding — I love ‘em — and the chance to surf in warm water). Do you get to travel often for work?

I’m having a great Monday, thanks for asking. I got tons of sleep last night (yay) and woke up feeling really rested and happy. How has your day been so far?

  21. Karen says:

    ERU!!!

Hi girl! Don’t you love Mondays when you don’t have classes! Hooray! :) Awww, you should totally rock the eyeshadow to Uni…

The Shu pencil is actually really fabulous. It’s so soft and pigmented and deposits nicely onto the waterline. Next one I get will be purple or green.

Haven’t asked about your pets in a while. How are they?

  22. I used the skunk brush too! I used to use the 182 for my mineral foundation (soft as HECK girl!), but now that I’ve tried using the 188/187, it just gives it the right coverage and finish for me. But it is a MAJOR B-word to clean ALL the time :/

As for today, I’m trying to get my shots ready for another post. I have a pretty decent photo post coming on the non-MAC (gasp!) mineral foundation I’ve been using. So if my laptop can putter a little faster, it would be all good in the hood! But seeing that this 4 year old Dell just isn’t what it used to be, I’ll have to just milk what I can out of it – poor thing, hah.

  23. Karen says:

    Hi Jaclyn,

Wow, girl! You’ve been working hard. I’m glad you were able to get a few days to yourself though… and I hope it stays mellow for you in the next few days. What do you do, btw? (I have a couple of jobs, I work in publishing and freelance write). I totally feel your pain on losing stress weight. I lost a few pounds over the last couple of months and honestly, I dunno what the heck happened because I’ve been sitting on my booty a LOT.

  24. Glosslizard says:

I’ve been loving the drawing pencils too! I have matte brown and metallic blue so far! I just wish the purple one wasn’t quite so red in tone!

Weather here is pretty much the same, sunny, but cool and breezy. Meh.

My day is a little slow, but I’ll make everything happen! Coffee is a great idea, I think I’ll get some now! :)

  25. Karen says:

    Hi Lynne,

The skunk brush effing rules. I use it with everything. You’re right, they are a pain to clean. I just gave mine a bath last night as a matter o’ fact.

Oh! Can’t wait to see your mineral foundation post. It’s cool that you are branching out to other lines. There’s a lot of wonderful non-MAC stuff out there!

LOL, sometimes I wish computers had an acceleration pedal. Wouldn’t that be handy…

  26. Karen says:

    Hi Glosslizard,

I have the same issue with purples sometimes… I wish I could easily rock the purple/violet eye. Often I end up looking like I got in a street fight (cause I’m such a thug! LOLOL). The next drawing pencil I want is a khaki or emerald green! Oh la la…

Enjoy your cuppa! I’m so lame, right before work, I got my coffee all ready in my travel mug (lots of milk, just a lil bit o’ sugar) and then I forgot it on the kitchen counter! DOH!

Are the kids back in school? Or are ya still spring breaking with them?

  27. Eru says:

Now that you ask for them, my bunny is really trying to destroy my new coat rack. (LoL) They are all doing nice, thanks for asking. :D I know, it would be great but no one wears eyeshadow to the Uni and they would look at me a bit weird. But, thursday~night parties I rock the dark smokey eye with my classmates so they´re aware of my skills. *insert evil laugh here* :D
Take good care and don´t let the work stress you! And tell Tabs I said hi!!!~I love that kitty~

  28. I’ve been using my skunk to apply my moisturizer and my skin feels softer! I seriously don’t even think I use my hands for anything other than to hold my brushes, lol. I’m getting spoiled!

I’ve been using this non-MAC foundation for almost 2 months now and it really is great. It’s lightweight and you can hardly tell it’s there. Plus, its the PERFECT match. LOVE LOVE LOVE!

Karen, I’m actually a store manager for a computer retail store. The funny thing is, I had more stress when I was the assistant manager when I used to work in the main store. My previous boss was a lazy bum and I did everything. But since I’ve been promoted 6 months ago and now manage my own store, it’s been a lot easier because things are run my way now, well according to company policy of course. hehe.

  30. Karen says:

    HI Eru,

Awww, when bunnies do things like that it’s both cute and terrible at the same time. When I can finally have pets of my own I want a few bunnies and cats… they are supposed to get along very well. In fact, I’ve seen cute vids on youtube of cats that live with bunnies who groom their rabbit friends. It’s so cute!

Thursday night parties are one of the best places to rock that smokey eye! And you Spaniards can party, girl! When I worked with exchange students a few years ago (they were from all around the world) the Spanish students (and the Italians) could just stay up for all hours and I could not hang, LOL. I didn’t have nearly enough stamina.

When I see Tabs I will give him a pet and a belly rub for you. He’s such a weird cat… he loves belly rubs, and he’ll even eat treats right out of my hand. He seems to be on a 3-4 day schedule these days, and I’m due for a meeting with him Tuesday or Wednesday. I’ll tell him you say Hi!

  31. Karen says:

    Hi Lynne,

Ahhh yes. I used to do that with my moisturizer too! It feels great, almost like a mini-spa treatment. These days I’m just too lazy and use my grubby lil’ fingers, LOL.

Congrats on finding a foundation that matches you perfectly! That is one difficult task, lady! Wow!

  32. Karen says:

    Hi Jaclyn,

Congrats on your promotion! That’s great that you get to run things your way, and don’t have to deal with a lazy bum boss. I can’t even tell you how many hours I’ve spent in computer retail stores. I’m married to a computer guy so I’ve spent some serious time wandering the isles… if there’s a section with phones or cameras I always end up there. :)

ps – love the look you look super cute!

  35. Karen says:

    Hi BeautyTalk,

Good for you! It’s tough to tighten the financial belt but you can do it. Dunno if you live in a crazy real estate market like I do, but good luck!

When is the wedding? Do you have your dress yet?

  36. Karen says:

    Hi KK,

OHHHH NOOOOO! *tears* I wonder if they’ll take it back. “My dog ate it!”

What kind of dog do you have? I have a tan mutt, Shauna. She lives with my parents, LOL.

  37. KK says:

I am still mad! I have a yorkie named gizzy and a maltipoo named annie….she must love her some mac…enough to EAT IT!!! Grrrr!

  38. KK says:

OH Pss – where did you get that pink top? Its SUPER cute on you and just happens to be on my color chart! lol!

  39. Glosslizard says:

Mmmmmm, yes, the greens! A likely pick for my next Shu purchase!

Oh, I HATE it when I forget my coffee!

Well, the little guys are back in school, but Brendan (aka Impus Major) has a bit of a cold today, so he stayed home, thereby impacting my productivity level! He’ll be back in class by tomorrow, though, no worries! By Wednesday, I should finally get a little solo time (not that I don’t love the little imps)! Whee!

  40. Karen says:

    Hi KK,

Oh cute! I think our family is destined to have a Yorkie in our life. El Hub loves them, LOL!

I have never had an animal eat any of my makeup but honestly I only think it’s a matter of time. Good thing the cat has zero interest in the makeup strewn all over my office (aka the dining room).

  41. Karen says:

KK! Girl, I got it from Old Navy on sale! Better pick yours up!

  42. Karen says:

    Hi Glosslizard,

Okay speaking of greens, I have a new green crush in my life: a wee Chanel summer quad, OY OY OY!!!

Yeah, I was pretty grumps! But work was actually pretty good today so it was okay. Now I’m drinking my tea so it’s all good.

BTW, I’ve been meaning to tell you my newest TJ obsession: rosmary apricot chicken salad! OMG… so good.

I hope Le Impus Majorus feels better soon. I always feel so helpless when kids are sick and they feel bad. *sending get well vibes* Since will have a lil bit more time on Weds will you practice your birthday party makeup look (or am I the only dork that practices with my makeup?!?!)?

  43. Dao says:

Love the last pic, you looked very vava-voom :D Got my Avon package around noon and girl, you’ve gotta try their new Glazewear lipsticks. They look like Slimshine but wayyyyyyyy cheaper.

  44. Karen says:

    Hi Dao,

Hooray! I’m so happy that you got your loot – nice way to start on the week! Which colors did you get and what’s your fave?

  45. Glosslizard says:

Hello! A new summer quad? (Ears prick up) What? Greens? ;)

I will check out rosemary apricot chicken salad when I go tomorrow! Sounds yummy!

Oh, he’ll be fine! Sometimes I’m all panicky, but this time I’m cool, so I know my keen instincts (LOL) are telling me he’ll be fine! It is sad when they’re really sick though!

Ha! As the day goes on, I gradually accumulate more and more makeup! Sometimes I start the day all subtle and end looking like I’m about to go clubbing! I come into the living room with scarlet lips and smokey eyes and ask Hubby “Whaddya think?” He bears with me. He’s so good!

I’m glad work was good! A happy Karen makes for happy readers! :D

  46. Karen says:

I know, I know! Why does Chanel make me weak in the knees? I am now lusting madly after your Emeraude mascara. Have you had the chance to wear it yet?

The chicken salad is so delicious and just a mere 130 calories per serving (40 calories of fat). I had it for a snack this afternoon with some Ak Mak crackers. For dinner tonight it’s looking like some TJ’s mac and cheese.

I’m glad that the wee one will be okay! I actually have to confess: when I was a kid I kinda liked staying home sick with my mom. I thought it was fun. :)

Ha ha ha! I do the same thing! I start the day off with one color on my lid and end up with five layered shades. During my run this evening (I just got back) I was looking at all the flowers in bloom and started thinking about crazy colored eyeshadows – bright oranges, reds and yellows! Do you have any in your stash?

Yah, work was good. Not having a deadlines helps a TON! :) Oh, and so does having a bag of Life Savers Gummies on hand!

  47. Dao says:

I got an 8-in-1 e/s palette in Watercolor, a Glazewear lipstick in Champagne glow which is the perfect nude, and a glazewear lipgloss in Peach fizz. The e/s palette is pigmented, the lipgloss is less sticky than MAC’s and smells like cupcake, and the lipstick is fabulous! It’s my favorite of the pack because it feels like a gloss as looks like a lipstick. I think their creative directors took a fancy look at MAC and decided to copy because the lipstick looks exactly like slimshine. Avon is no longer a thing for old ladies, yay!

  48. Tanya says:

Lovely look today!!!! My Monday went well and feelin’ pretty good…since I’m at home now and not at work ;)

Tanya’s last blog post..Hang in there!

  49. Glosslizard says:

I wore Emeraude this last Saturday, layered over a coat of black. It was outstanding! I paired it with a gold and green eye done with Lemon Sugar and Jungle from the Chanel fall collection!

A fun aside: One thing that really rocks about Chanel (and contributes to my mania) is that it’s like a cosmetics trump card! At Saks I was walking through a maze of MA’s calling out “Do you want to try some makeup? How about trying a new lipstick?” I’d just smile and say “No thanks, I just tried on some new Chanel!” and they all totally backed off! Even Hubby noticed… no one argues with Chanel! ;)

    Mmmm, I am so there!

Yeah, it was honestly iffy as to whether Brendan needed to stay home, but I gave him the benefit of the doubt! Tomorrow? Off he goes! :)

I don’t have any reds, yellows or oranges! I’d try it in a store, I think (always the adventurous type… as long as it washes off!) but generally yellows and oranges (except for soft golds or apricots) tend to make me look as if I’m auditioning for the role of dancing zombie in a Thriller re-make!

Hubby is always super-happy when he doesn’t have deadlines too! Remember the commercial with all the gummy (gummi?) Live Savers dancing? Cute!

  50. Steph says:

girl, we must be sisters in another generation! Gazelle and Us Weekly, and I’m all set. Oh, don’t forget allure! lol
I loved the bronzed look. They torture us with all summer collections, and it’s not even here. arrgh! In Ky it’s been the longest winter, and I’m SO ready for summer!

Speaking of Emeraude, I love it. I’ve been wearing it a ton. Glosslizard is right esp, those who have light colored eye lashes. I put light coat of black to give them a touch of color, then apply the green mascara. It really makes my green eyes pop.

  54. Karen says:

    Hi Dao,

Sounds like some good loot. I haven’t used Avon in years… did you buy it online or order it through an Avon sales rep? I am kinda tempted by that lipstick. :)

  55. Karen says:

    Thanks Tanya!

I love bronzes and golds because they are so easy. :) I hope you are having a good day today.

  56. Karen says:

    Hi Glosslizard,

Shoot. I dunno if I’ll be able to resist Emeraude for much longer. I feel my resolve slipping away… :)

The power of Chanel is amazing! Nobody messes with Coco, for sure. And it’s interesting that even your hubby noticed… LOL, random story time! One day I took all of my Chanel goodies and just laid them out on the living room floor and El Hub actually complemented the design – “It’s very elegant and sleek.” I dunno, maybe the black cases reminded him of race cars or black leather furniture or something.

I hope Brendan felt better today! I am sure he’s tearin’ it up at school!

Me neither! Not really bright ones, at least, in regards to eye makeup. I toy with the idea but honestly, I wouldn’t really wear it anywhere else except my living room.

Awww, I don’t remember the commercial with the Life Savers Gummies dancing! Honestly I eat so much of them I am about 50% Gummi now (I have a bag open on my desk as I type this).

Hope you are having a spiffy day so far! Dang it’s cold outside!

  57. Karen says:

    Hi Steph,

Here’s a random fact: I’ve never been to Ky before! When I go (I want to visit all 50 states someday) hopefully we’ll still be in touch so you can tell me where I can shop, ha ha ha! When do you guys start getting warm weather?

I am slowly breaking down and may have to get Emeraude very soon. Did you pick up any other goodies from the Summer 08 collection?

  58. Karen says:

Thanks Iheartmakeup!! I hope you are having a great day so far! What look are you wearing today, girl?

  59. Karen says:

    Hi Ilovecheese,

Thanks sweetie! Awww, I am sad your Monday didn’t go so well. At least you have the rest of the week to look forward to. I dunno if I ever asked you this, but what is your day job?

OHhh silver eyeshadow! What look did you do? I have actually been thinking about silver eyeshadow lately because I’ve been loving on this Danity Kane song, “Damaged,” and in the video the girls wear this amazing sliver eye look! It’s kinda over the top for day time but it looks pretty and very futuristic!

  60. Karen says:

    J-MONEY!

Next time I see you I can show you how to do it. I’ll bring my brushes and makeup and give you a tutorial, how fun! How are you feeling about your Clinique gloss? Has it dried out your lips?

  61. ilovecheese says:

Aww Karen, you made my day, I feel nicer now :) Oh, I work at Reuters as an analyst/reporter (but not on the field, it is all at desk, or else I would never get to wear heels at all). I report about all metal producing companies globally, and it is fun! I’ve been here nearly 3 years now and I’m still not bored even the tiniest bit :D
Oh I used the silver/gray look from an ELF quad (I think it is called Smoky eye) and used the silver to line the upper lash line! I’ve posted a pic on my blog, if you’d like to see :)

I’ve never used ELF before but I’ve perused their website now and then. I can’t wait to see your FOTD!

I feel the exact same way about the 50 states. Honestly, there is not much shopping in KY. I’m a city girl, trapped in a country world. hehe. Luckily, I’m only minutes from Cincinnati, OH which I do my all my shopping at Kenwood Town Center. I have to ask if you’ve ever been to Cincinnati, have you had Skyline or Gold Star Chili? Many people don’t even know what it is, which is one of the things Cincy is famous for.

Weather is surely looking up. Sunny and 70′s this week. As far as Chanel, I did buy the quad, but, I’m just not feeling it. I really prefer Dior’s summer one. I purchased Atoll and the Eyeliner also

Oh my gosh! That Clinique lipgloss is DA BOMB! i’ve replaced my lip balm (Burt’s Bees) with it and my lips are fine, if not better. YEAH for non-dyring lip color!!

    Hi Steph,

Nope, I’ve never been to Cincinnati! One of these days though… Well, if you ever head here to NorCal or to Hawaii (Oahu) I can let you know where to shop! Just gimme a holla!

I’m gonna try the Chanel quad tomorrow and hope something magical will transpire. Today I wore the gold shade from the Dior palette and I fell that much more in love with it. The last thing I needed was a Dior addiction, oy!

    J-Money,

I sooo knew you would be feeling that Clinique gloss. I KNEW IT! I can see you next in Tenderheart or perhaps Bamboo Pink next. I am now counting on you to spread the Glosswear Gospel!
