What do fairy (or faerie) whispers sound like?
I think it’s safe to assume they aren’t incredibly loud. Because of the whispering. Obvs… And I imagine they’re also high pitched and chipper, kind of like a piccolo.
A well-played piccolo, because a badly played piccolo is… NUH-UH. Trust me, as a former flautist, I know this.
I think that if a MAC Faerie were to flitter along — and this isn’t the first (or second or tenth) time I’ve fantasized about MAC fairies before, LOL! — she’d likely land on your shoulder and softly say into your ear, “Hello! Ooh, I love eyeshadow! Would you like to talk about it?”
Clearly, I spent too much of my childhood in an imaginary world…
Actually, I’ve also spent most of my adulthood in an imaginary world, LOL!
MAC regularly releases a collection shortly after Christmas each year, and this year, that collection is the very spring-like, glowing, ethereal MAC Faerie Whispers.
Most of the time, their post-Christmas collections lean sort of cool in terms of color temps, but this one has a lot of warm tones in it. It arrives December 23 on the MAC website and flutters into stores and counters December 26, where it remains through February 6 next year.
This is just a quick overview while I continue testing the products, and I’ll have a more detailed review in a few days.
But my first impressions? Shine. Various degrees of it, from subtle sheen to lustrous metallic.
As for the big news, it’s probably the new Foiled Shadows, a completely new formulation. I popped a couple of them on my eyes this morning… Incidentally, I’m wearing two different eye looks right now! One eye is completely purple, and the other one is golden brown, and so today will probably be the day when at least 10 different people knock on my door and I have to answer it this way.
But I digress…
At first test — ooh! — the Foiled Shadows are definitely interesting. They have a very shiny metallic finish, and you know how with some shiny eyeshadows you have to apply them with a wet brush to really notice them shining? Well, these are shiny without the added help, but you can still intensify the shine even more if you use a wet brush, because they’re designed to be worn wet or dry.
I also feel a very subtle cooling effect on my skin, which is kind of… cool! And each of the metallic shadows, if you look closely at the swatches, vary in terms of their metallic-ness. The most metallic one is Magic In Your Eyes, a lovely lilac that reminds me of a shinier, more glittery MAC Satin Taupe.
Then there are the less intensely shiny ones, like Fairy Land, Enchanted Forest, Joy Toy and Faerie Fayre, which are also warmer toned.
The collection also includes a Beauty Powder, an Iridescent Pressed Powder and two Powder Blushes, and I’m testing all of those right now, LOL! I’m wearing EVERYTHING and the kitchen sink (I’ll share picture when I look less OTT).
The cheek products seem quite pigmented, while the lipsticks and glosses seem more glowing and ethereal with different varieties of nudes.
I’ll have a full report soon after putting these whispering faeries through their paces, along with info about the new Velvetease Pencils, Hugs & Kisses collection and Matchmaster Shade Intelligence Compacts.
Stay tuned. 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

The shadows are so pretty! I really like the look of this collection overall. As a Cremesheen Glass lover I’m also excited about Enchanter!
LindaLibraLoca says
Oh, Enchanter has me swooning.
And Tabs looks superior as the stag companion to the MAC fairies!
Agata says
Enchanter caught my attention too and I don’t even like reds as much as you do!
Sarah says
Oh this is just a darling collection !!!! My daughter will be all over it… Cheek pollen is the cutest name ever ?? (why is there no fairy emoji) ?
Kiss & Make-up says

Is it me or does this feel very “fall”. Maybe it’s the lipsticks? Or maybe I’m the only one getting a fall vibe. 🙂
I think my fairy would be like the Green Fairy from Moulin Rouge. HAHA!

I know this may not be the right attitude , but I wish I was at least 15 years younger to wear some of the newer makeup. The highlighting, shimmery shadows and powders look like so much fun, but my age and lifestyle just doesn’t warrant it. I would have easily worn this at age 40, but it just isn’t for me. I am finding that I can get away with a touch of shimmer in one area at a time. In fact, today I have a touch of half-baked in the center of my eyelid. The rest of the eye is matte. I will just have to live vicariously through you younger gals.

Oh my, these are so pretty! can’t wait to see your pictures!
I guffawed at Tabs!

I’ll be channeling Arwen Undómiel, the Lady Galadriel and Tauriel, the fairies (which is hobbit term for elves btw) from Faerie, with this collection from Mac. ??✨✨

I like this collection. The eyeshadows look a bit sheer but the blushes and the beauty powders look really pretty. I also love that red lipglass!

OMG those SHADOWS!! I love that shiny finish! I definitely need them!!
Erin says
I love the finishes on the shadows! Hard to come to terms with it almost being spring again for makeup!
Rachel R. says
Shimmer? Fairies? YES, PLEASE! If only there were fairies on the packaging. I’m not too impressed with the lipsticks, but I like most of the rest of the collection. Magic in Your Eyes is to die for!
Chelsea says
The faerie makeup aesthetic is generally my ideal makeup look, so I’m loving this collection!
Erin says
I think I want Spellbinder blush, Calypso Beat and maybe Pearl Sunshine!
Fancie says
MAC collections don’t excite me like they used to but this one kinda caught my interest. I might need Fireflies lipstick, Cheek Pollen blush and maybe one of those beauty powders too. This collection is actually kinda nice!

This collection looks interesting. I like glow! The eyeshadows and beauty powder may be coming home with me! I asked for MAC gift cards for Christmas this year. I plan to buy unique MAC products. Never tried the beauty powders before.

To me, this is the perfect collection for springtime! I love that they chose to release a “lighter” collection post-holidays, it’s very refreshing!
