Because I generally try to avoid bubbling vats brimming with bacteria, I’m not the type to spend my summer nights hot tubbing (unless it’s with RyGos or J-Ren). But if I were, my dream scene would look something like this:
So totally feeling this makeup!
I was so excited about the MAC Temperature Rising collection’s highlighted skin, metallic, glossy lips and strong focus on smoldering eyes that toe a slightly menacing line between seductive and spooky that I tried to paint a picture of it over the phone to my mom (who never wants to talk about makeup), and the best I could come up with was, “The girl in the promo pic looks like Nelly Furtado sitting in a hot tub at night under a heat lamp wearing Mrs. Roper’s jewelry. Oh, and she’s sandwiched between two dudes from Magic Mike.”
With three neutral powder eye shadows and a single smokey green pan, Bare My Soul ($44) must be a hit among cool, stylish mallards… It has a brown, a taupe, a gold and a coppery green.
Quack! See, Mallard duck colors. The slightly shiny finish even says, “I’m a mallard duck, yo.”
What do hot mallards have to do with MAC Temperature Rising, the release to which Bare My Soul belongs?
Absolutely nothing, far as I can tell. 🙂 Well, the mallard part doesn’t, but the colors sure seem conducive to summery smokey eyes with copper, gold, bronze and brown.
I’ll use the taupe and gold for dusting all over my lids (and/or highlighting) and the chocolatey bronze and coppery green for deepening and smoking out my look.
The coppery green, also known as When in Rio — jinx! You owe me a Coke if you thought, “That’s a Club dupe.” It reminds me a lot of MAC Club on my NC 42 skin, except a little more brown and less red.
I swear these powders feel softer than the powders in the past few limited edition quads, but I’m not totally sure why… Sure do like it though.

You look SMOKIN’ in this quad! Glad to hear the shadows are better too!

Karen, your skin looks freaking gorgeous!
And darn it, I’ll have to get that quad now…

Lol, your description is just spot on! You look absolutely hawt giiiirl! I really dig that green shade, glad to hear it has more brown instead of red, it makes it a lot more wearable imo ^^.

Great article Karen. The colours in the new collection are smouldering and the two example looks you have provided of what the colours look like when applied are great! I can’t wait to get my hands on the new collection when it launches on the online site!

Haha your mom would probably be really confused if you actually talk to her about this :p
I really like this quad. It’s much better than every LE quad MAC has put out since basically forever! The shades are easy to use, and they really scream my name!
Lauren says
You look great here! 🙂 Not sure how those shades would work for me though 🙁 I tend to stay away from teal/brown duochromes and light golds.
Danielle says
This quad looks nice… It’s on my maybe list for this collection.
Agata says
You looks stunning, 100 times better than the model too :)I really like this quad.
Kim says
Thankfully mallards are more into fresh water than bacteria-ridden hot tubs. HAHA! I like this look on you and your lighting is much more flattering than the heat lamp in the promo pic. 🙂
Kiss & Make-up says
Karen, girl. In all seriousness. You look fan-tas-tic! Just as good, if not better than the model :-O
Eileen says
I got such a laugh out of your mallard image because the first thing I thought when I saw this palette was that it reminded me of the ducks that occasionally land in our pool! Quack!
Christina says
You look so good these pictures! This collection was meant for you! 🙂
Summer says

I am SO excited for this collection. This is what I want a summer collection to be! Hey Sailor! was fun, but the mix of colors wasn’t reaching out to me for summer makeup. Temperature Rising is total 180 for me, and I’m really pumped to check this stuff out.
Amber says
Karen, you had me rolling at the Mrs. Roper’s jewlery comment! (I guess that shows my age?!) The quad looks pretty, but girlllllll you are stunning! Better than the model, hands down!!

Karen I’ve been overwhelmingly busy lately and I got stuck on “toe the line” earlier today. I just re-read it and I think it might be “tow the line”? Please help a sistah out. I’m feeling insane lately
