How do you spell a scream, friends? Gaaaaah! perhaps? I had one of those days… I started with grand plans and great expectations to write about, among other things, the beauty gods’ gift to big hair and the new smokey Urban Decay Black Palette, but I hit The Great Wall.
No, not the one in China.
Writer’s block, which you might think I wouldn’t get anymore after four years and 4,000 posts, but I do.
You might have writer’s block if you’re swigging Cheetos from a cup.
I’d hoped for witty prose, but all that came out of my fingertips today was gooey green baby poo. At one point I just gave up on the whole sentence thing and decided to take a ton of pictures of the LORAC Box Office Hit Full Face Palette ($35) instead.
And if you’re thinking, “what a croc,” you’d be right. The limited edition holiday cutie for eyes, lips and cheeks is dressed like a croc, a reddish one, in faux patent croc. It’s available now at Ulta stores and also online.
I may attempt a tutorial, now that I’ve stopped crying, once I get the swelling to go down around my eyes…

Eyeliners and blushes

I hope YOU had a good day today even if I didn’t. Here’s to hoping for a better one Tuesday.
Tabs! Mommy needs extra lovies tonight. Get that @ss over here.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
Laura says
bad day too?
Same here. Wishing I had some cheetos to munch on.
Here’s hoping tomorrow is better! 🙂
Though, I fear for me it won’t be. 🙁
Karen says
Here’s to you, Laura. 🙂 Everyone deserves a glass of Cheetos on a bad day…
Melissa W. says
Aww, hahahaha. I love the glass of cheetos and wish I had some too. I hope you feel better, happier, and more wordy soon. Much love to you!
Karen says
Hi Melissa,
Thank you for the love. 🙂 Sending some right back to you…
Janet says
There must be something in the water, cause I had a bad day too.
Keep your chin up, girl! The creative juices will be flowing again before you know it 🙂 I believe in you.
Karen says
I’ll keep my chin up if you do, Janet. I see the start of a great Tuesday on the horizon for us both (and everyone else reading this…yes, you there at work).
Rae says
((hugs)) 🙁 Surprisingly, I managed to have a pretty good day (despite it being a Monday.) I guess I’m just happily holding onto the last shreds of fall, before the predicted snowfall later this week!
Hope your Tuesday is better, Karen <3
Brandy says
We’re expecting snow this week?! (I’m also from Edmonton) Darn it! At least it’s a short week… We get both Thursday and Friday off. 🙂
Karen says
You guys are much tougher than I am. Just the thought of snow makes my knees ache.
Karen says
Hi, Rae. I accept your hugs and return them in the spirit in which they were given. Ha! That’s something El Hub and I say all the time. We’re dorks.
So what do people say in the face of pending snowfall to cheer their friends up? Something like, “I hope if it does snow that it’s light and powdery”?
Beth says
Usually they’d probably say “I hope it snows heavy enough to cancel school/work!”
Toni says
Sorry you had a bad day, Karen. Sending many hugs your way! I hope today is better. Thanks for sharing pics of the face palette. Love the packaging, but I think some of the colors are a little too warm for me. Plus, I have an aversion to palettes for some reason! I just prefer single shadows. Yes, I’m weird!
Karen says
Hi Toni,
Thanks for the hugs. 🙂 Sending ’em right back at ya.
Okay, so I totally get why you’re into singles. You can mix/match, you don’t have to worry about eyeshadow cross pollination… Palettes are so handy for travel, though!
Anyway, you have a great Tuesday.
Kajal Couture says
Hopefully today is a better day for you Karen!! I like the packaging but the palette’s colors aren’t doing much for me. I’m totally lemming Bobbi Brown’s palettes.
Karen says
Hi Kajal Couture,
Bobbi’s got some gorgeous stuff out right now! Which of her palettes are you lemming for?
Amber says
I hope you’re having a good Tuesday so far, Karen!
Karen says
Hi Amber,
Thanks, hon. It’s amazing what a good night’s sleep will do. I feel better already.
You have a good one!
Nina says
*** hugs and cheetos ***
i hope today is better for us all!
on a happier note – i <3 lorac a lot … im going to sephora on thursday for the vib event so i will most definitely check this baby out!
Karen says
Hi Nina,
Thanks for the hugs (and the Cheetos). 🙂
What’s on your list for the Thursday VIB event?
Nina says
skincare mostly … but i feel the need for some makeup purchase to reward me for keeping my sanity during the move. 😀
i actually cheated and bought the tokidoki robbery palette … and i might grab this one too. 😀
Karen says
That’s totally not cheating. It’s a reward… every girl needs to have one for good behavior.
Nina says
thank you for making me feel soooo much better about the non-cheat! 🙂
Karen says
You’re welcome. It’s your reward for successfully moving!
Kim says
Oh, Karen, don’t be too hard on yourself. Writing is a huge part of my job and, some days, it just doesn’t flow. I’ve had plenty of times when I’ve looked at some copy I’ve written (a day or two later) and thought “Holy cow! That’s just God-awful; I’m glad it hasn’t gone to print yet!”. You put out a ton of great content and are bound to have some off days. 🙂
On another bright note, at least you’re eating Cheetos from a cup. I generally pound them straight from the family sized bag!!
And about the actual make-up, I’d love to see your tutorial. I haven’t had a chance to play around with my smokey eye before bed this week. Maybe that should be on my weekly goal list? 🙂
Karen says
Hi Kim,
Thanks for this. If we lived closer I’d totally bring over a x-large bag of Cheetos right now. 🙂
How’s your day going? Is your monitor situation finally settled?
Kim says
Aw, I wish you did (though my bum is better off without the Cheetos!). 🙂
I’ve been told that my CPU will be back (and functioning) on Thursday. I’m crossing my fingers, but not holding my breath. It can’t be soon enough; this loaner is killing me! 🙂
Karen says
You and me both. Virtual me should bring the over the baked kind … along with a workout DVD for afterword, haha.
I’m sure the computer folks are working on your stuff as fast as they can. You’ll have your baby back soon enough!
Kim says
That’s a deal! We could virtually run on the treadmill too! 🙂 I have to admit that 6.3 mph for 5 miles is my max, though. So, it’ll be more like a virtual jog. At least we’d be rocking to the same 80s music! 🙂
On a side note, I played hockey on Sat night for the first time this year and, oh, my hip flexors were sore. I really should be adding some sprints to my runs (but I’m too lazy)!
Stef says
Those are some long cheetos! Love how you classed them up in wine glass.
Writer’s block stinks. My best tip? Get away from the computer! Take a shower, go for a walk, take a nap. Just give your brain time to regroup, it’ll come!
Karen says
Hi Stef,
Thanks for the pep talk. 🙂 I just got back from a run… hopefully that’ll get the juices flowing.
Lindsay says
It wasn’t as if I wasn’t having enough preggo cravings. Add Cheetos to the list.
Karen says
Hi Lindsay,
You gotta get the baked kind… they’re the best for slamming right out of a cup.
Heidi says
Must have been something in the air yesterday! I was so cranky…. it started when I needed to take my mother over to Trader Joe’s and found NO parking…. seriously, people? On a Monday morning? So, that set the mood for the day. Then I came home to do an online search to look for jobs I might want to apply for, and nothing came up as something I can imagine being able to stand doing 40 hrs per week, so I started melting down about that…
I say we blame the time change! It always makes me extra sensitive, no matter which way the clock turns!
Just remember Karen, you have an amazing gift, and to expect it to always be flowing is probably not the most realistic expectation…. but you’ve definitely got it, girl!
Karen says
Hi Heidi,
I am totally voting for blaming the time change! It’s totally cramping my style!
Re: Trader Joe’s — I recently picked up their Butternut Squash raviolis and they are SO GOOD. Dunno if you’re into pasta, but if you are they are delicious.
The Dark Chocolate Star cookies are also back in season too, yea!
Heidi says
The ravs sound yummy! I never met a pasta I didn’t love. And I did notice that they’ve got all their holiday goodies in stock now and I consumed an embarrassing amount of those chocolate stars last year! I’m sure I won’t be able to resist again!
Amy says
I’ve been meaning to tell you how cute you look with bangs! Now seems like as good a time as any!
Karen says
Thanks, Amy. 🙂 Big hug!
Trisha says
1. Now, I really want some Cheetos. And…
2. I like the colors and pigmentation of this palette, but the packaging seems awfully bulky.
Karen says
It’s not a purse palette, for sure. You could probably keep it at your work desk or maybe your gym locker!
Glosslizard says
Sorry to hear about your day! 🙁 Y’know, about the writer’s block; I’ve been drinking liquids all my life, and yet I sometimes still manage to choke on a glass of water! These things happen… I like to think of them as just a li’l statistical anomaly! 😛
Lorac’s palettes never seem to really move me, not sure why…
Karen says
Hi Glosslizard,
LOL re: choking on a glass of water. It sure feels that way sometimes…
Did you ever manage to snag LORAC’s Front of the Line Pro liquid liner? I can’t remember…
steph b says
I was having a totally crappy day — had 2 nails in my tire and getting it replaced took up most of my free afternoon. BUT then I got a message from my friendly Nordstrom Chanel lady saying they had the Soho collection now and she had set aside a Stunt for me! I have bought only 1 thing from her but told her how bummed I was to miss out on this lovely lippie and she made a note of it. Love that service.
Karen says
Car stuff is such a PIA, sigh! Thank goodness you were able to get it done, though.
And WOOT about you getting your hands on Stunt. Chanel makes *everything* better. When do you get to pick it up?
Antonia says
Oh, Cheetos!
Karen says
Cheetos rock. 🙂
HautePJ says
Your picture of the Cheetos in a glass made my day! Today was crappy for me due to work. Writing is a huge part of what I do daily and I was just not feeling it. Very frustrating for sure. But thanks for the swatches. And at least I have the VIB event to look forward to Thursday!
Karen says
Hi HautePJ,
You’re welcome. I think I’m gonna snack of a few Cheetos now, as a matter of fact. 🙂
Sorry to hear your work day was yuck. Tomorrow’s a fresh start, right?
As for the VIB event, what’s on your list?
