My obsession with pink lipstick kicked into high gear again. Today I’m wearing beigey pink-gold Chanel Formentera Aqualumiere Sheer Colour Lipshine SPF 15 ($27).
Part of the Chanel Fall 2008 makeup collection, Formentera shines like mad yet feels whisper light on my lips. It’s a pretty option when you want the staying power of a lipstick with the shine of a gloss. I’ve been pairing it with subtle smokey eyes, like this khaki-grey eye with Benefit Cream Shadows or this black-champagne eye with Clinique’s Midnight matte.
ALERT: Coco Chanel Heads to Lifetime Television!
Confession time: I loves me some Lifetime (“Television for Women!”) movies, especially ones starring B-list celebs like Tori Spelling. I can’t resist dramatic woman-in-peril story lines.
While watching a rerun of The Golden Girls this morning, I almost choked on my coffee when I saw a commercial for this upcoming Lifetime mini-series on Coco Chanel. Shirley MacLaine stars as Coco, and the story covers the post-World War II period when she returned to France.
“Coco Chanel begins in 1954, as Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel (MacLaine) suffers a professional and personal crisis. After a 15-year absence, she has reopened her famed couture house with a comeback collection. Unfortunately, she and her business partner Marc Bouchier (McDowell) are shocked when the critics and customers reject it. In reflection, Coco recounts her humble beginnings and how similar feelings of abandonment by her father inspired her lifelong series of doomed love relationships that fueled her fiery ambition to succeed.
As the years pass after WWII, Coco faces turbulence in her business and vows to redeem herself after the failed comeback collection. Within three seasons, Coco updates her classic designs, including the Chanel suit and enjoys a newfound respect. The Chanel suit becomes a status symbol for a new generation, proving that Coco and Chanel will never go out of style.”

OH, SNNNNNAP! I am so there! *Marking my calendar* for 8:00 pm on Saturday, September 13.
How’s your day coming along? Except for discovering that mini-series, mine has been uneventful in a good way. I hope time flies at work.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Wow! That lip colour is absolutely beautiful and its going on my must-have list.
I’ve had a pretty good day, although I can’t believe its Thursday already. My week off has gone so fast.
Today, I had breakfast with a friend, then had a quick look in Lush and also in the MAC store before meeting another friend for lunch.
I got a few things out of Lush (including a freebie moisturiser that smells hideous!) and I made my first MAC eye purchases today. I’ve already got a foundation, a few lipsticks and glosses but no eye stuff at all. I played it fairly safe and got a Paint Pot in Painterly and an eyeshadow in Naked Lunch and I’m going to use them for work makeup I think. I really love the texture of the Paint Pot so I may get a couple more later on this month.
I hope work is going quickly for you. When I’m at work, Thursday is my favourite day because its almost Friday. I actually like them better than Fridays somehow, I guess its the anticipation of the impending chance to sleep late!

Hey Karen,
aww im jelous i wont get to see that programme you must feed back on everything you learn!!!
I picked up one of those Benefit paint pot type things today its really cute, the Benefit counter is right next to mine in work and iver been eyeing them up for a while now so i finally gave in and got it in Carte Blanche, i also got the new benetint lipbalm which has vitamin e and spf 15 to take away to Rome with me!
How are you finding the staying power of the shadows? I really like birthday suit too but thought I would try out this one first!

I love this lip color on you. So pretty!
It’s been an interesting day for me. Kinda found out (I say “kinda” because the details are totally iffy) that the guy I told you about–the one I went out with after meeting on the bus?–might–MIGHT–be engaged. To another girl who also rides my bus, and whom I’ve seen before. Ummm yeah we just went out a few weeks ago, so I have no idea what is UP with that.
Yes, this only happens to ME. 😉
I’m also going a bit nuts for MAC’s Starflash shadows. I’m wearing Mink & Sable today and I must say that it’s very pretty. I’m not crazy about the more colorful shadows in the collection (and I do like me some color) but the neutrals are absolutely gorgeous.
Ohhh and speaking of Lifetime TV, I am such a sucker for those made-for-TV movies. Remember that one that came out in the 90s (how’s that for vague 😉 ) with Shannen Doherty, where she ends up getting this crazy stalker who takes over her life, steals her boyfriend and band, and just ends up going absolutely insane? They show it on VH1 every now and again and I swear I’d totally buy that on DVD. Sad, but true.
Have a good night Karen!

Very pretty! Since I’ve fallen in love with Chanel, I wish I could justify getting rid of most of my makeup collection and start again. Do you ever feel that way? The longer I “collect” the more I realize what products are quality and will get a lot of use. I used to collect for the sake of growing my collection, but not really keeping in mind what would be useful and quality. But if I were to start all over… I would have a beautiful Chanel lip collection going on, that’s for sure. The more I wear them, the more I love them and begin to “abandon” my other lippies.

Hi Beth,
I was wondering how your shopping trip went. We have a Lush store here in SF! I have popped in there once or twice, but I always end up leaving quickly because I get overwhelmed by all of the scents. Some of their products look neat though… and strangely edible!
Yay, MAC haul. You’ll get soooo much use out of Painterly and Naked Lunch. Those are great work choices because they’re both just so flexible.
I love Thursdays, too, for that very same reason. Work is going okay. I can’t wait till I get out, though… I get tomorrow off and I’m looking forward to sleeping in a little.
Got any plans for the weekend yet?
Karen says
Hi Holly,
Oh of course! I soo can’t wait to see it. I hope they film in all of the classic spots (like her apartment) in France.
I’ve been wearing the Birthday Suit for the past few days and I really like it. I use it with Too Faced Shadow Insurance underneath for extra staying power. It’s a pretty good combo.
Been meaning to ask you, could you recommend some good Chanel Eye Duos?
Karen says
Hi Elle,
Thanks! 🙂
Regarding bus guy — oh no! How reliable is your source?
I haven’t dug into the Starflash yet (I know, I know). Seems like MAC has so many releases and there’s just not enough time. I will take a closer look when I get the chance to hit the counter this weekend.
LOL, I saw that one a long time ago. One of my faves is the one (also from the 90s, can’t remember the name) where an evil nanny moves in with a family and plots to turn the daughter into a human sacrifice for her cult.

Hi Tuprnut,
I too, do get a little ga-ga when it comes to the Chanel, girlfriend. I think there’s such an elegance to the look that gives the line its timelessness. It’s never too OTT and looks natural without being too boring.
Oh no! I now rue that day when my friend gave me that wee sample jar of eye cream, because I’m lemming their skin products big time. I tell myself to just not go there but I can’t help but feel the pull.
Okyanus says
Oh I really love this color–it doesn’t scream “I have lipstick on!”. Although strong colors are fun too, this one looks like a natural lip but better! This is the sort of pink I like but whenever I find a shade like this it tends to be overly frosty and I really don’t like the frosty look. This seems to have just a hint of frost from what I can tell so it looks good.

Holy crap, Karen!
I’ve been so swamped with work, work and more work that I haven’t come by to visit you in like two weeks! I had to scroll back to page 3 and read b/c I’d missed so much – Cult of Cherry, the Bobbi Brown previews (uh.. I’m already obsessed with the lippies), and the best of Lancome (woot!).
And today’s entry doesn’t disappoint – I heart pink lippies and Chanel, what can be better than that.
Hope you’re Thursday’s goin’ well. I’m getting ready to go camping this weekend, can’t wait 🙂

I love that lip color. Love, love it. haha. I own no Chanel makeup, but I really might have to go buy this. It looks amazing.
I also want to check out that mini series. I’m all about lifetime. I watch the Golden Girls in the morning when I have time, lol.
Today has been pretty boring for me. Work went by really quickly, which is always good. Now I’m just chilling and watching the episode of Sheer Genius I miss last night 🙂
Miss QQ says
Hi Karen. That lipstick is gorgeous on you. It doesn’t look like this on me. It only gives a frosty beige shine, no hint of pink, on my lips. Papeete, on the other hand, is too pink on me. Maybe I’ll try Formentera again this weekend. The mini-series is so interesting, but I don’t have the channel. Cable?
Elle says
Hey Karen!
I think the source is pretty reliable. It’s kinda complicated but I don’t know what to think…I knew going into it that he wasn’t exactly an angel, but a ‘playa’ is a LOT different from a dude in a committed relationship. One’s fair game, IMO, the other isn’t. I ain’t no homewrecker though, so ’til I find out the truth, I’m gonna stay where I am and keep a modicum of dignity. 😉 I feel kinda weird about it, but eh. I’m cheering myself up by organizing my makeup and watching some baseball…and that will do the ‘cheering up’, provided my team wins. 🙂
I think you’ll like Starflash…and yes, it really does seem like a new collection comes out every time you blink. The texture is lovely and the best part so far is the fact that they have little to no fallout.
I’ve never heard of that movie! I wonder if you can search on IMDb that way…”90s movie about evil nannies and human sacrifices for cults”? 🙂 I’m gonna have to check out that Coco Chanel flick…

I am so recording that. Thanks for the heads up.
My day was a good one. Kind of slow but it picked up after lunch. I got my shipment of loose leaf tea gadgets so that was fun. I love getting packages in the mail. It feels like Christmas.
I wanted to ask you something. You have the whitest teeth. Do you use a certain product or are you just that fabulous on your own? I tried the Crest strips and they make me gag.

I just got this lipstick the other day. At first, I didn’t think I’d like it since I’m not a big pink lipstick girl, but it looks so pretty on! 🙂
I’m really looking forward to this movie. I let out a little squee when I saw the add the other night.

I sooo have to get this lipstick in Waikiki – I’m going to Hawaii tomorrow! 🙂 SPF15 and everything. Perfect!

Hey Karen,
I actually really love the shadow duos i wear Brun express quite often with cashflow paint pot underneath, i really like how they work together as brun express doesn’t have a lot of shimmer to it so it can carry cashflow well.
Also if you dont already have the individual safari shadow then desert-rose is gorgeous for a really pretty daytime look! I would reconmend Train-bleu too for the amazing deep blue but i know you already have bleu celestes so its really not worth it because they are pretty similar!
