Lip Look: Hourglass Extreme Sheen Gloss in Siren

Well, hello, pigment! When it comes to color, Hourglass Cosmetics’ Extreme Sheen Lipgloss in Siren ($28), a shimmery reddish copper, does NOT mess around.

It’s like a technicolor dream in tube form! Super rich, right?

And opaque color isn’t the only thing this gloss has going for it…

  • Texture: Thin, non-sticky texture that feels super smooth on my lips, like a slightly thicker version of a Chanel Aqualumiere.
  • Hydrating formula: Some glosses (but not this one) suck the moisture from my perpetually parched lips.
  • Flavorless with a light scent: Smells like cupcake frosting, yum! But it dissipates before becoming annoying.
  • Wear time: I can slick it on in the morning, and it’s still going strong six hours later (begins to fade after lunch).

I even experimented with a second layer to see what would happen… Yeah, Siren didn’t like it at all, bleeding beyond the lines of my lips. Picture a rabid makeup clown, boo!

Take home lesson? Less is more when it comes to Siren. I think a single, thin layer is just enough to get the job done.

With pigmentation, texture and hydration like this, I can’t wait to try more shades!

Have you tried any of the Hourglass Extreme Sheen Glosses? What did you think?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Lunch time! :) Who’s up for a salad and Trader Joe’s tomato soup?

Wow, that is an amazing colour on you! Really gorgeous!

    • Karen says:

Thanks babe! I love it too! At first I was afraid it wasn’t going to be wearable (cause it’s sooo dark), but it actually is.

How is your day going? Good I hope!

      • Karen B says:

I’ve just woken up again. Yesterday was a nice day. I now have pretty eyebrows so no complaints there and I have a day off. Tonight is press conference for the musical I’m in next year so that’s exciting :)

        • Karen says:

Snazzy eyebrows are always a good thing. I love it when they’re freshly groomed!

If the lip wax hurts you to much you could always try taking a painkiller an hour or two before. That’s what I used to do before waxing, um, certain parts.

          • Karen B says:

I know! I felt so confident and gorgeous at press conference last night even though I usually feel so uncomfortable at things like that. :)
Thanks for the tip, I’ll keep it in mind.

I’m gonna have to look into this brand when i’m in Quebec. The closest sephora to me is 10 hours away :(

  3. Molly says:

Oh MAN is that beeyoutiful. So, about how I’m hitting up Sephora today??

  4. Tavia says:

Hi Karen! Unfortunately the reddish copper is not my color but I like that is non sticky and hydrating.

Once my exams are over, I’m pretty sure I’m heading over to Sephora… I’ll have to have a look at everything you’ve been mentioning recently, including this gloss (which, by the way, looks great on you – the colour is perfect)! Of course I’ll be selective about what I buy, but it’s always nice to know what to put on your wish list ;)

    • Karen says:

      Hi Kypris,

What a nice treat. I used to do stuff like that when I was in college! It gave me something to look forward to when tests were done.

What’s on your Sephora wishlist so far?

  8. Anna Phylactyc says:

This is my current lip obsession…I got it a few weeks ago and need to stop myself from wearing it daily! I’m super-fair so the sheen shows as insanely metallic on me, and I loooove it (the metallic effect dulls a little over time, but the pigment stays true). I’ve swatched the other colors at Sephora but none of them seemed as special as Siren- I’d love to see your review of different shades!

    • Karen says:

The contrast of the red against your skin must look beautiful! What eyes do you wear with it?

      • Anna Phylactyc says:

I pair it with a simple black cat eye, it’s very pinup-bombshell but Siren’s metallic finish gives it a modern edge. Now it occurs to me to try it with a neutral eye, maybe with a hint of copper, too!

  9. Didi says:

O Karen – How you tempt me! I’m not supposed to be spending money on anymore cosemetics until the new year – LOL

  10. Ellie says:

Oh wow! This is a gorgeous color! I love how opaque it is- I can never find a gloss that’s quite right. Maybe I need an early Christmas present…….

  11. Steph B says:

It is very striking on you but I was expecting a redder red based on the skin swatch. On your lips it is more coppery. I’m going to check out their glosses at Sephora tomorrow. Have a credit I feel the need to use for some retail therapy.

    • Karen says:

      Hi Steph B.,

I’ve found if I pack it on it looks similar to the swatch on the lips, but it’s messy. :( I have to do a lot more to get the color to not bleed around the edges of my lips… I’d rather just do a thinner layer!

  12. Ooh I love the color!! Very holiday appropriate and would look great for parties!

  13. Rae says:

Yay!! Thanks for the lip swatch, Karen :) You’re the best! Perhaps the long wear time and the fact that these sound like they smell heavenly will be justification enough for a splurge… =D

    • Karen says:

You’re welcome! If you wear this you HAVE to put on falsies or thick cat liner. That would look smoking hot.

Happy Friday, btw. What are your plans for the weekend?

  14. Wow, that is so hawt! It looks really opaque and sexy! I’m really loving the pigmentation on that one!

Oh wow, HELLO GORGEOUS! I dunno how this’ll look on my skin tone though… But that’s why God created Sephora so we can test these things out before buying.

  16. Whoa that lipgloss is intense! I love it when glosses are really nice and pigmented, and the color is so unique and pretty too.

    • Karen says:

Me too. I find there’s a fine line, though. Have you tried any of the Illamasqua glosses? Some of them are a little too pigmented for me!

      • No, I haven’t tried them, but I did see your posts on them :)
This post reminded me of an old unopened Revlon Creme de la Chrome I had lying aruond. I dug it up after I read this, and swatched it on the back of my hand. The pigmentation and finish are extremely similar, but the color is a little bit darker, and doesn’t have that nice coppery undertone. I’m kind of scared to try it and see how it looks on me *balks*

That copper color is gorgeous! I would love to try that on my lips. I love the fact that it has a non-sticky texture and having the smell of cupcakes is an added bonus!

I love Hourglass products! I have used the lip sheen, although I’m still not a gloss fan. If you get a chance, try the Hourglass Foundation. I like the fluid veil. A bit on the pricey side, a little goes a long way, and really buffs out well.!!

  20. amy says:

That is a hot shade of red! I love that it smells like cupcakes. Which reminds me to bring out my reds again for the holidays.

  23. Toni says:

Wow! That’s some great pigment from a lip gloss! I know one of your readers mentioned this brand on my non sticky lip gloss request. I am having a hard time justifying spending $28 for a lip gloss, but I might have to bite the bullet, or ask Santa for it in my stocking! I will definitely have to try it out the next time I am at Sephora (along with the Korres lip butter and lipsticks).

    • Karen says:

The good thing is that a little goes a really LOOOONG way! Even though it’s $28 your dollar would certainly go far!

Are you ready for the weekend? I hope you’re doing something fun!

      • Toni says:

We’re going to a Christmas party tomorrow night with our Sunday School class. We are dressing in sweats in honor of one of members who had back surgery and can’t wear fitted clothes yet.

That’s a good point about it going a long way. I am so close to getting this lip gloss!
