So how are you doing on this fine summer morning? Do you have plans for today?
I’m rushing out the door right now to meet my friend Jen in San Francisco. She’s getting hitched this November, and I’m her matron of honor. One of my matronly duties is to help her find cute bridesmaid dresses.
Here’s the lip look I’m wearing this morning, done with Chanel Papeete Aqualumiere lipstick and Gold Light Glossimer from the Fall 2008 collection. What do you think — fun and sparkly?
Please send me good luck dress vibes… I really hope we find dresses the bridesmaids can wear again after the wedding. Everyone says that, but you never know. Do you have any tips or advice for me? I’ll have my CrackBerry in hand, checking comments while we’re up to our ears in taffeta and ruffles. 🙂
Have a great day, and let me know what you’ve been lemming lately.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. Speaking of luck, let’s see how yours is today.

Dear Karen,
You are already lucky having a wonderful friend and an opportunity as a wedding attendant to show off your stuff. LOL!
The Chanel Papeete looks wonderful on you. I am a little too pale and it seems to be sheer. And where do they come up with these names for the glossimers. Papeete? What is a Papeete? I love vintage clothing. Do you think that your bridal friend would be open to your dress being a vintage one and the price may be right, too? Perhaps all attendants in the same color but different style. It always hard to get more than one person to agree on the same thing, isn’t it? As for what I will be doing today. . . I may walk over to Sephora(Yes, I said walk.) I am one of the few people who can say that they live with several blocks of the Sephora store But I do not go wild there because I am a Chanel girl and they do not carry Chanel. Or I might go the local thrift store and see if I can find any SHOES!!!!! Or if all else fails I will wash my car-how dull. m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m sending good vibes. Louise

That gloss looks so pretty on you, I really like it. My plans for today are hanging out with my mom & son, we’re going to watch The Spiderwick Chronicles on DVD. Then my hubby & I are going to take our 5 year old son to his cousins 9th birthday party. It’s all about the fam today. How exciting (and exhausting!) for you to be dress shopping today, I really hope you find something fabulous! When I was a bridesmaid for my mothers wedding she let us choose our own dresses. We were a colorful bunch. It was a lot of fun and we all felt beautiful. Happy shopping!
P.S. I’m still lemming the Smashbox tinted moisturizer. I will get it soon I hope!

Noice! (that’s my fake Aussie accent hehe) Me likey the Chanel Papette moite!
Don’t know why but I feel like speaking with an Australian accent today. I’ve never been a bridesmaid but had a fair share of being a flower girl back when I was a kid. About the dresses, I think something more of a romantic side with sheer chiffon and empire waist is perfect.
A picture for you: http://slideshow.ivillage.com/beauty_style/steep_vs_cheap_holiday_party_looks/party_dress.html
I actually have something that’s similar to the black one. For bridesmaid dress, it should be longer than those two. And if you decide to go with that one, make sure you have some double-sided tapes
P.S: how come my comment is not shown? I’m giving it another try!

have you looked at http://www.ariadress.com? not sure what kind of wedding she is doing but as far as dresses go they are very classy and could honestly be worn again… they offer them in a silk shantung which is really pretty and any color combo you can come up with!

Hi Karen!
Good luck with the dresses! When I was matron of honor for my best friend’s wedding, she ended up choosing dresses in a color I loved (deep green) and that could be worn again with a little alteration. Unfortunately, I have never gotten around to getting it altered, and now I’m a few sizes smaller than I was then, so I’m pondering simply donating it. I think there’s a charity out there that takes old occasion dresses and cleans them up and gives them to girls who can’t afford fancy dresses for their prom! I can never remember the name of it, but I think it’s such a great idea! Good luck with your search! 🙂
My current lusts are Chanel’s Rodeo Drive nail polish (any day now…) and Rose Dust blush!

I posted earlier but my reply didn’t show. I’m quite lucky today, been winning from your slot machine. It’ll be nice to have such an easy-to-win slot machine in real life.
Did you find the dress yet? I like dresses that have chiffon because they’re feminine and romantic looking without being too frou frou. Also empire waist is another must, it does make me look taller 🙂

I LOVE that color:)
I’m starting a feature on my blog, HomeSpaGoddess.com about all the products beauty blogger can’t live without. Your blog is great and I’d love for you to participate:)
Just answer this question:
You’re stranded on a desert island where all of your basic needs (food, water, shelter) are taken care of. You are allowed an unlimited supply of only 7 beauty products. What seven products would you choose?
They can be products for hair, face or body. If you want to participate just email me your answers at hsg{at}homespagoddess.com and put “Island Beauty” in the subject line. I’m going to run my “Island Beauty” feature once a week and I’ll email you when you’re featured.
Thanks!

Those Chanel glosses look amazing on lips – great look!
Hope the dress shopping went well – it’s a challenge to find something that flatters all women in the bridal party! I got married in the fall and did a “claret” red and they were sexy. I wanted my girls to feel hot. None of that “bride only gets to beautiful” business for me!
I’m lemming the new Tarte eye coutore day-to-night palette at Sephora. Great color selection and it comes with a double ended brush and liner!

I wanted to check out the new Chanel lip colors but the MR was w/me and didn’t want to drag him along – that color combo looks great on you. I got married at City Hall – didn’t have to choose bridesmaid dresses luckily! Hope you scored something cute and wearable!

i love the color on you! 🙂
Karen says
Hi Louise Gray,
Thank you! I’ve known her and her family for over 20 years so it’s going to be a fun and emotional wedding. 🙂
The bride (Jen) wants us to wear different styles in the same color or dresses from the same designer in the same fabric but in different colors (it’s mind boggling the decisions a bride to be must make!). The three attendants all have different body shapes so we’ll see. I tried these two on and liked ’em both:

Anyhoo, I hope you had a great day. What did you end up doing? I hope your car is still dirty and that you had a grand time at the thrift store and at Sephora! 🙂
Karen says
Hi Michelle,
I hope you had fun with your family today, and that the birthday party was a blast for your lil’ one.
Wow, so your mom’s wedding sounds like it was very cool. What color dress did you wear? We ended up finding a few styles, but my friend still has to decide on what color we’re going to wear. I had my fill of silk shantung and chiffon today! 🙂
Karen says
Hi Meaghan,
Oh, pretty! The dresses we tried were kinda similar in style from a designer called Simple Silhouettes.
Karen says
Hi Glosslizard,
I love the idea of donating dresses to woman who can use them again. I’m gonna look more into it and pass it onto my friend, whose been a bridesmaid four times! Yowza!
Karen says
Hi Dao,
I know, right? I want one that pays in whatever I’m needing at the moment. Money, lipgloss, shoes…
Funny that you mentioned chiffon, because I actually tried a very pretty cocoa colored chiffon dress from Jim Hjelm that I liked!
Karen says
Hi Denise,
Thanks for the invite! 🙂 That was really nice of you to think of me.
Karen says
Hi Laurie,
Pretty! I bet those dresses looked really smoking. My friend the bride, Jen, is basically letting us pick the dress style so all the bridesmaids will be in different dresses. It was a fun!
I love Tarte eye palettes. I got one last year and found it to be very flexible!
Karen says
Hi Vivien,
Isn’t it fun? I wish that thing paid in Chanel lipglosses!
Karen says
Hi Lexi,
I have this theory that if makeup departments had a separate section for guys with black leather couches, flat screen tvs, beer and video games then it would be 10000% easier to bring guys makeup shopping. 🙂
We saw lots of very cute dresses! Ultimately, veto power goes to my friend the bride, but I tried on a few that I actually really liked.
Karen says
Hi Christine,
Thanks, girlie! I hope you are having a great weekend so far.
Eru says
Hey Karen! 😀
I see you’re rockin’ Papeete! I love the lip look, it reminds me of candy 😀 I agree with your boys and makeup shopping theory, my boy would love some beer and games while I take my time gathering make up. But whatever, luckily he doesn’t complain a lot so by the moment I’m happy.
Have a good day! 😀
Hugs! :3

Hey Karen! I am lovin’ your lip look of yesterday! Very cute!
Also, I love when the bridesmaids wear the same color but different styles. That way everyone gets to wear what suits her body best, but the color ties everyone together.
And to Louise Gray, Papeete is the capital of Tahiti 🙂
Dao says
Zoink! We’re totally in sync with each other. I think I need to save up my money to go to SF 😀

Dear Karen,
Both dresses are very cute and since they are “tea length” you would certainly be able to wear them for other occasions. I sure hope that you pick a color which suits your beautiful complexion.
And to Tiffany, thanks for sharing that bit of information about Papeete. Perhaps someday I may go there. I ended up doing none of the things that I thought that I might do yesterday except drink wine. For me, it’s like that man on qvc or hsn who makes jewelry. Have you ever seen him? His name is Nicky Butler. His jewelry is fun, He says that a woman without jewelry is like a night without stars. I like that saying and now I will relate it to the wine. Here is my corny poem. A night without wine can never be fine. hahahaha!!! Have a wonderful week. Louise
Karen says
Hi Eru,
Thank you! I think you’ll like it when you see it in real life — it’s very sparkly and flirty. It would look great with Chanel Nomade! 🙂
You are so lucky that your sweetie doesn’t moan and groan when you take him makeup shopping. You better hold on to him, because that’s a rare thing, LOL!
Karen says
Hi Tiffany,
Thanks, girlie. 🙂 Glad you like it! I was tempted to wear it again today, but you know, there’s just so many lipsticks and not enough time, LOL.
Regarding the bridesmaids dresses, I think ultimately that’s the look my friend is going to go for. It’s interesting, too, how each of the attendants (myself included) knew exactly what dresses would/wouldn’t work for their body types. I’m just glad I don’t have to wear an A-line dress (it’s a cut that makes my big ole’ bum look ginormous, for some reason). 🙂
Hope you had a great weekend. Are you ready for Monday? I’m so not!
Karen says
Hi Dao,
Yah! Don’t say that I didn’t warn ya, though — you can’t stop at just one when it comes to Kara’s cupcakes!
I do hope you get to visit SF someday. If/when you do lemme know so I can give you a long list of fabulous places to shop!
Karen says
Hi Louise Gray,
I hope so! I don’t really have many opportunities to go to fancy soirees, but hopefully either dress will open up some doors, LOL. I’m really hoping the silk shantung material will make it a bit less prom-esque, too. We shall see. 🙂
I’ve never heard of Nicky Butler. I love that his quote, though — that man is my new hero! I wouldn’t mind some new “stars” in my night, LOL.
Hey! I see we have a wine fan. Girlfriend, pass me a glass of your best sangiovese. I’ll bring the chocolate cake. 🙂
