Life is like a tube of lipgloss… You never know what you’re gonna get. Take Chanel’s Equinoxe Glossimer, for example, which looks totally lunch lady scary in the tube, but on my kisser it looks like a completely different product (with a lovely nude, golden pink glow).
Two coats of Equinoxe Glossimer layered on top of MAC’s Syrup lipstick give me what I like to call “fight the power” glow. A product with purple and gold flecks may not sound appropriate for the workplace, but Equinoxe is subtle enough for most office environments.
Viva la lipgloss revolution!
I’m feeling a little wacky today because I didn’t get to sleep until three last night (or was it this morning?); I’ve just had a lot on my mind lately, so I’ve been staying up at night in bed, re-hashing all the shizz I can’t seem to figure out (sigh).
Please tell me you’re having a good day. I could use a nice story to help me through the afternoon.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Hey Karen,
Awww poor you i hate sleepless nights they are the worst but theres nothing like a Chanel gloss to make you feel better hey!
I actually had quite a good day today, i finally feel on top of my Law of Evidence revision and I smashed my commission target at work tonight 🙂
This time in 3 weeks all my horrible exams will be over 🙂 im planning to treat myself with new highlights, a good pedicure and some of that Laura Mercier brightening powder that you rave about! I may also get some other stuff while im in space NK as they sell all the things i cant get easily where i work like shu umeura and nars! any suggestions? im particularly in the market for a facial spf!
xxx
Karen says
Hi Holly,
That’s so true. All day I’ve had Equinoxe with me and she’s cheered me up quite a bit.
I’m happy to hear that you had a good day and that your exams are almost over. Hooray! All your post-test treats will be so well earned. 🙂
Hmmm, did you ever end up getting any Shu eyeshadows? I love Shu for eyeshadow and of course for Precise Volume Waterproof mascara. I’ve read that the face powders are amazing but I haven’t gotten around to tryin’ them yet. Everything from the NARS summer collection looks so hot, but some of my faves from the regular line are Dolce Vita lipstick (there’s a lipgloss version, too) and Amour blush (this might be too dark for you… maybe you can wear it when you get a lil’ bit of a summer tan). I am so loving Shiseido 55 Face sunscreen (the one in the tube)… I am totally addicted to it!
What type of highlights are you going to get?

Hey Karen.
I hate sleepless nights. Here’s my weird story of the day. So I’m a make-up artist for cK Calvin Klein Beauty. Not only am I in charge of cK now. I’m in charge of 5 other lines. I didnt know whether to laugh and cry when my manager told me. ugh
Thats my rant for the day.

Oh, Karen, I completely understand…
I haven’t gotten to bed before 3am in a while..everything is always complicated by college life, I’m sure you remember 🙂
Here’s to knowing that things will get better!
I just got home for the summer and can’t wait to get my hair re-streaked as my little pick-me-up!

for hight-end brand, chanel and dior are the best glosses ever. For drugstore brands nivea and rimmel are cool along with revlon and max factor. I still have chanel cristall shine no.15 and it looks fuchsia on tube but on my lips, it takes another angle with another sheer color. I have diorshow and diorkiss too and both are great. Your lips are awsome here so soft and baby-like.

OMG, that combo is sooooo SOOOOO pretty! I need to go check these out! I’ve considered getting Syrup before, and I want a Glossimer, so this might be what I’ve been looking for! WOW!
But what do you mean “lunch lady scary”? In that older pic it looks like a normal sparkly mauve… *confused*

Hi Iheartmakeup,
Wow, girl! I am impressed. What a wonderful and challenging opportunity for you! It’s definitely going to push you, but hopefully you’ll pick up some great management skills for the future. Congrats!
If I lived near you I’d visit your counter! I don’t know much about the cK line but the shadows I saw at Sephora looked pretty.
Karen says
Hi LaurenIvy,
Glad to hear you made it to Detroit safely! 🙂
Tonight hopefully I’ll get to catch up on some z’s… I’m going to make myself relax a bit more so that I am not as wound up when I hit the bed. Speaking of college, one of my tried and true methods of falling instantly asleep was reading any chemistry textbook! Maybe I should get one, ha ha ha.
Besides getting your hair done (yay) what are your other plans for this summer?
Karen says
Hi Carla,
I haven’t tried Dior kiss but at the counter today I saw a few Addict glosses that I want. So pretty!

Hi Mariah,
When I was a kid the lunch ladies at my school always scared the bejeebus out of me. They always seemed to have big moles with long hairs growing out of them, they never smiled and always threw the food at you… sounds like a bad pre-teen sit com, but it’s true.
Anyway, when I first saw Equinoxe I got the same sort of scared feeling because it looked really dark to me in the tube. But alas, it was totally NOT scary when it’s on.
Miss QQ says
Hey Karen,
Your lips look fabulous! I’m considering getting the combo, Syrup and Equinoxe to mimic that lips! I love them individually too.
Aww Karen… I was sleepless too. I got to sleep only at 3.30am and got up at 6.30am for work. I’m bugged by dental problems. Just removed my bottom left wisdom tooth through surgery on 2nd May and the pain left me sleepless for a week. Then my dentist changed my painkillers last Wednesday and I have been surviving on about 4 hrs of sleep daily. He also discovered that during the removal of my bottom right wisdom tooth (by another dentist), a chip of the tooth in front was broken and it fell inside the wound. Now the chip is all buried in the already closed-up wound. Will seek advice when I see him again tomorrow.
Totally upsetting dental issues, but reading your blog keeps me going. Today I have Love Knot Lustreglass with me to cheer me up.

I love Equinoxe! It deepens lipstick colors while adding that fantastic multi-color shine! I especially love it over Chanel’s Splendeur or Shanghai Red!

LOL, Astronomy put me to sleep, no fail!
This summer hopefully I’ll be working and exercising-getting into fighting shape for next year, y’all know how it is…
BTW, I’m gonna do a summer pedi soon I think, what color should I do? I want something bright!

Poor you. Hope you’re feeling better soon.
I slept alright this night (its 9 am here in Belgium now) but I woke up to disaster. The ink on my printer is a goner, so no printing the essay due in today (got that fixed by now luckily, a friend is printing it out as we speak) and even worse than that, my staple, my favourite eyeshadow of all times, my Stila Icon broke on me!!!
So I see that as a sign and I’m taking the trip to the MAC store in Antwerp on Friday… hehe

Hi Karen,
No i never did get any shu stuff at all so will have a look at your sugestions, i absolutely love my nars blush though so am keen to try more of their collection.
What sort of texture is the shiseido sun block? i really dont want anything that is going to be too thick or greasy!
Megan says
That’s really pretty K. That sucks about the sleepless nights though. I feel for you. Seriously…I hate being an adult. The responsibility and decisions…too much stress. Too bad we can’t just be heiresses and independently wealthy. Not that Money can buy happiness…but it sure seems to help.
I’ve had a lot on my mind lately too. I think working out is the best cure. Work out until your body is too tired to stay up. 🙂
Or talk it out…even if it’s scary. 🙂 My sister is normally my go to. Or one of my friends who’s great at logically examining issues and coming up with suggestions. You know if you need anything, we’ve got your back… 🙂
Karen says
Hi Miss QQ,
Oh, I love Love Knot! It’s a very cheerful color, and I bet it looks beautiful on you.
I am so sorry about your dental issues. I hope that you get that chip out and that you’ll be out of pain soon. Going to the dentist terrifies me (I am the worst patient, ever), but I’ll send you some good teeth vibes!
Syrup is a great casual day color. It reads as slightly purple on my lips when I wear it alone but I like it. It’s very pretty with just a coat of clear Lipglass too!
Anyway, you take care! Hope you feel better soon.
Karen says
Hi Glosslizard,
I haven’t tried this yet over red (I usually pair ’em with Myriade) but I will try that next when I’m in a red mood. I bet it’s super pretty.
Do you ever wear it by itself? For some reason I can totally see you wearing it to the dojo…
Karen says
Hi LaurenIvy,
Girl, I am perpetually working to get into fighting shape. Sigh. I gotta warn you: it gets harder as you get older, too. This summer I’m going to get my muscles back (been neglecting the weight lifting). We can encourage each other to work out!
Ohhh, pedi = fun. How about a bright coral? Or a really juicy red? I have to paint my toes again in the next few days and I’m going to go with Risky Business from Essie.
Karen says
Hi Karen B.,
Don’t you hate when computers and their counterparts get fussy? I’m glad to hear that your friend was able to save the day. What was your paper about, btw?
OHHH, to have your favorite shadow break just adds insult to injury, boo. This is definitely a sign from the universe that you need some new MAC shadows in your life. 🙂 Do you have any set colors in mind, or are you going to wing it?
Karen says
Hi Holly,
The Face version (in the tube) is not greasy at all. It dries to a smooth finish, and it never leaves my face feeling like an oil slick. It is thicker than the Face & Body version (in the funny-shapped bottle). I actually like the Face & Body version for my neck, because the finish even smoother than the Face version, and completely non-sticky.
I love Nars blushes oh so very much! I hope we both get more soon, LOL!
Karen says
Hi Megan,
Thank you so much for this note. It really made me feel better. I sometimes don’t believe that I’m actually an “adult”, ya know? It’s like one morning I woke up and all of the sudden, bam!
Working out helps, I totally agree. I’ve been so busy with work, so fitness has fallen by the wayside. I always wondered why people who had time consuming jobs often looked tired and out of shape. I’m turning into of them, LOL.
You are really lucky to have your sister to talk to. Honestly, I just want somebody to tell me that I’m doing fine and that everything will be all right, ya know? Sometimes I think I need to hear it more than the average person.
And anytime you need support — I’ve got your back, too. 🙂
Karen B says
I know, it’s a sign from the universe 😉
Well, I was thinking to get Shroom as you’ve been blowing it’s horn for ages. And the 217 and 224 (I need some good e/s brushes) and Indianwood or bare study paint pot (there’s no more fafi here, so no cash flow for me). And maybe a blush like blushbaby.
We’ll see once we get there. I’m setting myself a €150 max budget.

Karen… LOL I know exactly what you mean. I mean most of the time I feel like I’m about 21/22 in my head…until I’m around a real 21 year old. 🙂 There have been a couple times in the past year when I was out and was thinking…seriously…those kids are too young to be drinking… LOL…so i definitely know what you mean.
Even on here or other boards sometimes I read a comment and someone types in all text language and in my head an old lady voice is saying “SPEAK ENGLISH!” LOL…yeah that makes me feel old.
Karen says
Hi Karen B.!
That sounds like an interesting and fun class. Ahh, I miss school sometimes. 🙂
If I could go back in time I’d make myself take more music classes in college. I basically stopped playing when I went to university and really regret it.
Karen says
Hi Megan,
Just wait till you start sentences with the words, “Kids today…” and “When I was a kid…” Also, you know you’re getting older when you hear phrases and you’re like, “WHAT?” I usually have a good ear for slang and now I’ve noticed there are certain phrases and terms that I have NO IDEA what they mean!

Dear Honey,
If a little lip gloss of lipstick can’t cheer you up, then what is the world coming to. . . .? Here is a happy story that might (?) cheer you up. I have certainly done my share of late night soul searching. As one of my heroes-John Lennon said, “Whatever gets you through the night..” Well, here it is.
Pittsburgh is one of the organ transplant meccas of the world. Last week, the Transplant Games were held here featuring the many people who had organ transplants at one time or other. My neighbor and I were talking about how native Pittsburghers are very friendly and he told me about how he was eating ice cream at Klavon’s Ice Cream Shoppe and there were people there from the Games who were also extolling the friendliness of Pittsburghers. One woman told him that she was a heart transplant recipent. She had a gold chain around her neck with a gold heart on it. On the back of the heart was the name TODD. He was the young fellow who was in a terrible car crash and donated his heart. After her transplant, she received a letter from the family of Todd. They told her all about him and that on the anniversary of his death, they remembered him and celebrated his life by going out and having ice cream which was one of his favorite things to eat and do. The woman who received Todd’s transplant said that she was never really a great fan of ice cream but after the transplant she ate ice cream in honor of her donor. Not to make a pun, but isn’t that a heart-warming story and true, too. Sometimes it is hard but we have to put our life on a measuring scale and we can see that the blessings outweigh the curses. Hope that helps, sweetie. Louise, your friend in Pittsburgh
