Lily Lolo.
Could that be the cutest name for a makeup brand ever? It’s so sweet! The gal who created the line, Vikki Kahn — named it after her two sisters, Lisa (Lily) and Lorraine (Lolo).
Aww! 🙂
Lily Lolo is a 100% natural British brand of cruelty-free mineral makeup, and their products are free of parabens, synthetic perfumes and dyes.
Years ago, or so the story goes, the founder, Vikki, ordered some mineral makeup from the U.S., and she was so impressed by it and talked about it with all her friends, but nobody over there knew what the heck she was talking about! They didn’t know what mineral makeup was yet! So Vikki started Lily Lolo out of the spare bedroom in her home, and now the line is growing fast and sold internationally.

Lily Lolo (for some reason, I keep wanting to call them Lily Lilo) has a pretty broad makeup selection, too, like mineral powder foundation, blush, highlighter, bronzer and bb cream, eyeshadow palettes, eyeshadow singles, liners, primer and brow products, lipstick, gloss and lip pencils. And the prices are in the MAC range, so they aren’t drugstore, but they aren’t Tom Ford-level either.
So, what is mineral makeup?
Everyone’s got a different definition, but mineral makeup usually refers to makeup made from minerals like iron oxides, talc, zinc oxide and titanium dioxide that are ground and milled into micro particles, and most mineral makeup formulas are free of organic dyes, preservatives and artificial fragrances, so some people feel that they’re better tolerated than regular non-mineral makeup brands, but it all depends on the company and their ingredients. Mineral brands often use fewer potentially irritating ingredients, but it varies, so check your labels.Lily Lolo has much more information about the ingredients they use on their website.
Um, the looks Lily Lolo has done for their campaigns? WOW! — absolutely gorgeous, like what celebs would wear on the red carpet to the Oscars.
It’s glam, but it still seems approachable, and that speaks to my makeup soul. 🙂
I’ve tried a few things from the line, and my favorite by far is the Laid Bare Eye Palette, which is $34 and comes with eight neutral powder shadows in shades of beige, tan, gold, khaki and charcoal.
Their eyeshadows are made with pure inert minerals and completely free of GMOs, nano particles, talc, additives, harsh chemicals, parabans, gluten and bismuth oxychloride, dyes, fillers, fragrance, preservatives and petroleum-based chemicals.
The shadows swatch super shimmery, but when you blend them out on your lids, they look less shimmery, so what you end up with is a soft, satiny, red carpet glow.
I’ve worn the palette a few times (most recently in this Tom Ford Winter Soleil post yesterday), and I keep getting compliments on it. I think it has a special sauce where it isn’t too shimmery (it’s a soft, satiny glow), and the shades aren’t too in your face.
I’m always kind of shocked at how quickly I can do a complete eye look with this palette. The powders are just THAT easy to blend, and there’s very little fallout at all. If you like green/clean beauty products, and you’re on the prowl for a solid everyday eye palette, check it out.
The $26 Champagne Illuminator has that same soft, satiny glow. It catches the light ever-so-softly, and the velvety fine powder sit seamlessly on my skin (sit seamlessly?)… Fans of the Hourglass Ambient Powders will probably lurve this.
Creamy red French Flirt Lipstick ($18) is effortlessly chic. It looks and feels smooth, and it’s moderately pigmented. It’s also moisturizing, too, which is nice, and it doesn’t have any funky flavors or scents.
French Flirt Lipstick Ingredients
Organic. Gluten free. I really hope to see Lily Lolo grow in the next few years, and I can’t wait to see what they do next.

I love the finish of the eyeshadows! A little bit of light reflection, but in a really subtle way.
Karen says
Yes! I think that’s what they do particularly well. They have lots of palette combinations; I want to try a few more, especially the smoky ones.
Amy says
Sooo pretty! Looks glam and natural at the same time. I love the product spotlights you’re doing!
Karen says
Thanks, Amy! I enjoy learning about new brands so I like doing them. I hope to do more in the future. 🙂
Happy weekend to ya. What are you up to?
Amy says
Working! Enjoyable work. Plus dog park in the snow, Costco, and hopefully a nice latte thrown in there. 🙂
I thought of you the other day when I did a full on silvery green smoky eye look (Chanel tisse venitienne) with lavish mascara and black liner… added Malice blush and sparkly lips… and then found all of my plans for leaving the house changed for one reason or another. So I sat in my home office and enjoyed looking pretty for my dog, myself, and hubs in case he noticed, haha! Your blog encourages me to see the fun in a situation like that, and I love that. 🙂 Happy weekend to you and your family!

Sounds like you’re going to have fun, relaxing weekend. I do hope you get a delicious latte in there for fun. I’m going to try to get one in the morning… I have an early appointment to get my bangs trimmed, so now I have an excuse to go grab coffee for me and my stylist buddy.
Your look, by the way, sounds divine! You used some of my fave Chanel products. ? I’m sorry that you didn’t get to go out to show it off, but that just means the next time you do the look it’ll be even better.

Mucho shimmer! My wrinkles don’t approve but my heart wants to try them anyway. I love all the natural makeup brands you’re covering lately.
Karen says
You should! The shimmer is very subtle. 🙂

Love the story behind the name! Makes me wish I had a sister so that she could name her company after me LOL. The red is really pretty on you too!

I tried them years ago when I first got into beauty blogging. I remember being very impressed with their eyeshadows. I wonder how I’d feel about them now 🙂

Those eyeshadows do look really nice! I can’t decide which palette would be best for me…
