I love the smell of a good bargain in the morning…
It smells like…victory!
LOL! I’m pretty sure that’s not how that actual line goes, seeing as how Apocalypse Now is one of my top five favorite films of all time, but it is how I feel about Tarte’s new Treat Yourself to Gorgeous Gifts From the Amazon Collection kit.
Talk about great stocking stuffer material. I love breaking apart holiday kits to use as stocking stuffers, and this $49.98 one (a $496 value) looks perfect for that.
But it’s a qvc.com exclusive, and the sale only lasts a few more hours (sale ends tonight, November 28, 2012)!
It’s conveniently divided into three separate, easily giftable sets, the first with four Cashmere Waterproof Gliding Liners, the second with four Maracuja Divine Shine Lipglosses and the third with 20 Amazonian Clay Eye Shadows.
As gifts, the sets work out to about $16 each, and would ya look at that? — they already look gift-wrapped! 🙂
Tarte has a thing for sheer products, especially on darker skin tones like mine. Of the pieces here, I think the buttery soft liners pack the most pigment.
Speaking of the liners, they’re a little like Tabs in that they’re afraid of water…as in lines. They do just fine on my lash line but can’t stand my water line at all.
If your interest is piqued, pounce now! The kit is only available for a few more hours.
PRICE: $49.98
AVAILABILITY: Just a few more hours! The sale ends tonight, November 28, on qvc.com.
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B+ (a great value on a good selection of sheer, cruelty-free products)
My mid-week book report
Last night I finally finished the book I’ve been reading, Before Ever After, by Samantha Sotto.
It sat on my Kindle for a few weeks before I got around to it, and then when I started reading it a few weeks back, it seemed a little slow. Every night I’d pick it up and fall asleep within a few pages, LOL!
Not that it’s boring at all… Just a little slow.
10-second summary: after a series of supernatural events, a widow suspects that her dead husband may, in fact, be alive, and she embarks upon a trip to learn the truth.
It’s one of those stories that jumps around in time and starts out a little confusing, but it gets clearer (and better, I think) over time.
I liked it…but I probably won’t be reading it a second time.
Now the fun part — hunting for a new book! 🙂 Any recomendations?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
Marla says
Ha! Was just watching this on tv.
Karen says
How funny, Marla!
Tracy@Beauty Reflections says
What a great set! I’m actually impressed with how much better the eyeshadows have gotten since I last tried them! And those liners look great!
Have you read Lamb:The Gospel According to Biff by Christopher Moore? One of the few books that made me laugh out loud a few times!
Karen says
Hi Tracy,
I could use a book to make me laugh. That one’s new to me so I’ll try to get a sample on my Kindle tonight, yay!
How have you been? 🙂
Melissa says
I read a book awhile back, The Night Circus (I think), where it jumped around in time too. It was a little confusing at first, because I wasn’t paying much attention to the dates under the chapters- but it was a good book.
Karen says
Hi Melissa,
Thanks for the rec. Adding it to the list! Hopefully they’ll have a sample available on Kindle. 🙂
Gosh, I just realized that I can’t remember the last time I bought a non-Kindle book…
Lucy says
I just saw a video on this by beautybroadcast on youtube! I’m gifting one to my friend. I think she’ll love it! I love the purples in this pallet.
Karen says
Hi Lucy,
You’re such a good friend! Are you going to break up the kit or gift the whole thing?
Miriam says
Gone girl bt Gillian Flynn. A psychological thriller that keeps you RIVETED.
Karen says
Hi Miriam,
I keep seeing that book around! Okay, adding it to the list. Thank you. 🙂
Barb says
Hi read this and thought it was a little slow. I did finish it but I didn’t think it was as great as everyone was raving about 🙁
Liz says
Think I’ll pass on this, the Sephora set seems better to me. But thanks for the info!
Books I would recommend are: The Rook by Daniel O’Malley, The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova, or The informationist by Taylor Stevens, all of which are fabulous thriller/mysteries.
Karen says
Thanks for the book recs, Liz. 🙂 I’ll check ’em out.
Sarah says
Great bargain indeed.
However, I’m more interested to see your arm loaded with swatches of the shadows! Haha..
Sarah
Karen says
Hi Sarah,
Ha! Sometimes I think about using my bicep when I run out of room…
Kim says
I am SO glad I didn’t see this last night. I’m trying to stay away from sets because I find them irresistible, even though I know I’ll never use 90% of what’s in them! 🙂
I’ve been on a bit of a book dry spell lately, so I’m not much help.
Karen says
Hi Kim,
I know what you mean. I think it’s the allure of having those extra colors because you just never know! That’s what usually sucks me in when it comes to set.
If I find anything interesting to read I’ll let you know. 🙂
Kim says
I think you’re right! I’m also a sucker for your FOTDs. I keep telling myself that I rarely wear eyeshadow or lip products so I don’t need more… even though they look so awesome on you!
Yes, please do. I think I mentioned that I read The Hypnotist and, while it was good, it really bothered me. I probably should have grabbed something quick and fun to cleanse my palette, but didn’t. Now is the time! 🙂
Karen says
Okay…quick and fun. How about The Long Way Home, by Karen McQuestion? It’s a pleasant, easy chick-lit book I read it a while back. Kinda predictable, but it could be a great palette cleanser.
Kim says
I’ll give it a try – thanks for the rec! We’re thinking of Nexus 7s for the boys for xmas so I might finally download a book and e-read. My reluctance makes me feel like an old, crotchety Grandma! 🙂
Tina @ My Highest Self says
Bummed I missed this, I would have bought it for such an incredible price. Problem is, I don’t think I would want to part with any of it!!
Karen says
Hi Tina,
LOL, I know what you mean. Sometimes I buy beauty gifts for friends and “accidentally” forget to give them away.
Nina says
I finished reading that book too! It was OK, not bad at all. The only thing that irritated me a bit was the “luv” bit. 😀
I havent started on a new book yet, im embroidering a birth announcement for my friend. When im done for the night, my eyes are tired!
Karen says
Hi Nina,
HAHA! That bothered me too. I kept thinking LOVE. L-O-V-E. Not luv.
I didn’t know you could do embroidery! That’s really cool. My mom is hard-core into both needlepoint and cross-stitching. I wish I had the talent and patience to do it… Anywho, congrats to your friend. When is the baby due?
Barb says
Have you read A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness? It’s like Twilight for adults. My sister in law turned me onto it and it’s pretty good. I finished the first book and am almost done the second. Plus, they are pretty substantial reads.
Karen says
Hi Barb,
I think I might have it as a sample on my kindle! I will have to look it up…thanks for the recommendation. I love how you describe it. 🙂
Sandi says
Gone Girl is excellent. I could not put it down. I think you would really enjoy it. Am going to get the Bobbi Brown palette. It looked amazing on you!!
Karen says
You’re the second to recommend that book, Sandi. 🙂 I guess I’ve really got to look into it!
Cristy says
I would love to buy it! But I’m so so broke! Work it’s slow! And with the new house, I never thought I will stop buying stuff for me, and now I think in the house first… 😉
