Just an FYI: If you ever want to take yourself seriously, don’t combine a headband with cat ears and pink glitter lips.
It’s just too hard. You’ll just be laughing at yourself all day long! 🙂
The cat headband is from Etude House, and it’s $5.20. Mine was a gift from a friend, but I love it so much that I’m ordering a backup (side note: Do you want me to review it? LOL!).
Without further ado, it’s #mbbinstachallenge time!
It’s week two, and this week’s theme is kitten flicks and glitter lips.
I chose to stick closely to the O.G. inspiration pic this time, so I drew sharp black kitten liner all the way into the inner corners but kept that center area on my lower lash line bare, for negative space.
I suppose I could have done something like a bronze or a gold liner in that area instead…
Ooh! That could be super cool. I might try that next.
I used Tom Ford’s absurdly expensive liquid liner, which is SO bomb (despite being absurdly expensive. I was reminded why I love it so much as I was trying to place it into the inner corners and needed to be super duper precise. It’s amazeballs.
And for my glittery pink lips, I used sticky pink MAC Big Baby Plushglass, then patted a multicolored pink glitter on top, concentrating it in the center of my lips.
I wanted big, chunky, flashy glitter, so I went with MAC 3D Pink Glitter.
Here’s something I learned while doing this look: If you pop glitter on top of gloss, don’t rub your lips together right afterward, because the gloss will mix with the glitter and bring down the sparkle and shine several notches.
As a bonafide lip rubber…I struggled with this.
I’m definitely gonna do this look again. I like the way it turned out. 🙂
Remember, for the #mbbinstachallenge, you don’t have to take the theme as literally as I did. You can riff and play and take it in whatever creative directions you want.
Don’t forget to #hashtag your pics with #mbbinstachallenge on Instagram, and tag me at @karenmbb so I can find you.
Looking forward to seeing what you cook up this week! Here’s what the lovely Holly @niteowlchef did.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

P.S. Get ready to have your mind blown…
So I’m watching Strange Days with Angela Bassett and Ralph Fiennes right now (from 1995), which I’ve never seen before, and I just realized that young Ralph Fiennes looks exactly like Bradley Cooper.
They look like the SAME DUDE.
It’s crazypants!

The negative space totally makes this look, IMO!
Karen says
Hi Amy,
I’m a fan of it too. Definitely going to wear it again!
How are you with winged liner? It still takes me a while, but I can do it if I’ve got time and Q-tips and makeup remover (to help me clean up the edges). I wish I could do it all in one swoop!
Amy says
I’m terrible at winged liner!! I’ve never really practiced it. The time investment always puts me off!!! Glitter lips, though? All over that. 🙂
Karen says
Yeah, I feel ya. I don’t do complicated liner like this often because it’s a lot of adjusted and readjusting of lines. Tape helps a lot (although I didn’t use it for this look).
If you like glittery lips you must try the MAC Dazzleglasses! (Please tell me you have already.)
Erin says
I think glitter lips is fine for editorial… I could never pull it off at a party, at least I know what glass is mine all the time, lol.
Karen says
LOL! That’s one way of marking your red plastic cup. 🙂
Rachel R. says
This look is awesome, Karen. Love the cat ears. 🙂
Karen says
Thanks Rachel! I wear them all the time around the house. It’s getting to the point where I want to rock them outside in the real world too, LOL! It’s seriously the most comfortable headband I’ve ever worn. Plus… cat ears.
How have you been? Anything new to report?
Rachel R. says
I’m doing OK, thanks. Nothing to exciting to report. I lived through the holidays. lol Kids are doing good. My younger son just had oral surgery for wisdom teeth removal. He’s recovering well. The bunnies are getting big and are now litter box trained. That’s good, because we had to keep them inside during the snow days.
I think you could totally rock those cat ears in the real world.
LindaLibraLoca says
Glitter lips, okay. I will have to wait for the weekend, no chance I am wearing these to the office!
Kim says
Etude House has adorable stuff – that headband is awesome. 🙂 I like your glitter lips much better than the inspiration photo (where I find the glitter to be too patchy for my taste). Did you line your waterline? I am so clueless that I wouldn’t have seen your negative space unless you pointed it out. HAHA!
That’s an interesting movie. I’m not a tremendous Juliette Lewis fan and found Tom Sizemore to be creeparific. That said, I love Ralph Fiennes so I powered through. 😉 I haven’t seen it in many years – how does it hold up? The VR aspect was cool.
Tanya Dufour says
I’m not big on glitter but I like how your lips came out!
Tatiana says
Love the kitten flick liner. With droopy, hooded lids this is one look I never do.
I really love the negative space on the bottom liner.
Linda Halpern says
Hi Karen, I got my kitty headband at Memebox, it looks to be the exact same. I love it!
Lupe says
I love this look!! The glitter lips are amazing!
Holly (aka nightowlchef) says
Hey, that’s me! Thank you for including my look in your post! I realized that I didn’t let people know what products I used so here’s the list: the eyeliner is Physicians Formula Eye Booster 2-in-1 Lash Boosting Eyeliner & Serum (why so long a name??) which I like for the thin tip which makes it easy to create that flick. The blush is NYX HD in Electro and I’m pretty sure my mascara is Cover Girl (which I actually don’t care for as the formula is too wet but it did spike my lashes a little which was my intent). For the lips, I used NYX Xtreme Shine Lip Cream in Dolly Girl and Wet’n’Wild glitter eye shadow in Groupie on top. I actually like the glitter more than I thought I would (it has very fine flakes) but I think it’s a look for a night out and in that case, I would also set my lips with powder and setting spray. I actually wear kitten flicks more often than I thought, usually purple, green, or turquoise as I really enjoy that pop of color. Thanks again for sharing my photo and I look forward to next week’s challenge!

Oooooh, Karen, that is one of my favourite movies, I even have the DVD! 🙂
Going to try the look now. 🙂
