Happy hump day! OK, here’s my second look for week #1 of the #mbbinstachallenge using the same idea of a bold, colorful element on super clean skin. Lots of you are participating, and I love what you’re coming up with!
In the look I did on Monday, it felt super weird to see myself in bright eye makeup with absolutely no color on my cheeks, but it feels TEN TIMES weirder to wear bright lips today without color anywhere else on my face.
Maybe that’s because when I normally do wear a bold lip, I’m usually also glammed up?
I dunno…
But I do know that when I look at these pics, the lips REALLY STAND OUT. All I see are lips, lips, lips! ???
The model in the pic above looks like she’s wearing a bright pink lipstick outlined with a slightly darker liner. I wanted a similar vibe, so I went with MAC Candy Yum Yum and NARS Costa Smeralda Velvet Lip Liner, and I kept the liner purposefully un-blended to help it show up brighter in pics.
Also, it looks like this model isn’t wearing any foundation or concealer or mascara, or really anything at all, but your girl doesn’t roll like that, LOL! Oh, hell no. I had to put on a little something, so I used Make Up For Ever Smoothing Primer, and then a little bit of Sephora Bright Future Gel Serum before setting everything with MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural.
I’m getting so many ideas from your looks so far!
I love how precise @jewelia13’s bright lip are…
And the glossy finish on this purple eye by @cosmetopiadigest is GORGEOUS.
This hot pink hotness by @niteowlchef makes me smile. 🙂 (Seriously, I have got to wear hot pink shadow more often.)
And Efrain’s double-stacked liner here is making me long for summer parties!!!
I’m feeling inspired!
Keep those pictures coming! — and please use hashtag #mbbinstachallenge and tag @karenmbb so I can find and follow you. 🙂
Savory oatmeal — it’s a thing
After I made it and posted this video on Instagram last weekend, I was really surprised that more people hadn’t tried it before. It’s great pre-workout food because it has complex carbs and protein.
You just take regular oatmeal, but instead of adding sweet things to it, like honey, fruit, milk and sugar, you add savory things to it, like veggies, cheddar cheese, eggs and spices.
Please tell me you’ve had savory oatmeal before! It’s the best, especially when you don’t want toast or something frozen.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I’m a big fan of an almost bare face with a bright lip. Makes me want to bust out Bite Kimchi and send ya a snap.
Also, I know you love NARS Yu, I think it might work better!
My favorite savory oatmeal is kind of savory and sweet. Cheddar and Apple. That 5 year white cheddar from TJ’s!!!

These are so fun!!! A lot of them look like performance art. Which is fabulous. Some are surprisingly wearable, too – the lippies, for sure, but even the yellow and pink eyes. It’s hard to single anyone out, but of the more out-there ones, I do love the astridparamita look and can totally picture seeing someone with this on the street (too bad it was irritating – maybe thicker primer would help, or a different formula?).
This “single element” thing is minimalist in concept, edgy and pomo in execution. It requires saturation and restraint all at once, which keeps you on your toes! Very fresh.

Thanks for the shout-out! ❤
It was fun to do and I’m so excited for the next few challenges!

Just saw the look on Instagram, I think it looks really cute on you! Loving the bangs also.

Loving all these looks!
I don’t have pictures to publish, but I’ve been joining in the spirit by experimenting with different combinations of base products this week (trying out my various tinted mineral sunscreens followed by a loose mineral powder foundation I don’t use very often saturated with setting spray, etc.), then adding just a touch of brown mascara and brow gel, and bright, bold lips. Yesterday I used Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche lipstick in Dragonfruit, a super-bright pink.
I think this look works better on younger faces (I mean younger than my sixty years). Without any cheek products or eyeshadow on, I need to either let a bit of rosacea redness show through, or apply my base products in such a way that I’ve got a good glow on, or my face really starts to fade into the background in spite of the bright lip color. When I was younger, wearing eyeshadow and blush and lipstick all together often ended up looking like I had too much makeup on, but now that I’m older, it putting it all on makes everything look balanced. Still willing to try a couple more of these, though!
I have not had savory oatmeal, Karen, but it sounds interesting. A great variation on oatmeal cookies: use the recipe inside the lid of the Quaker Old Fashioned Oats container, adding a cup of shredded baking coconut and a cup of chopped pecans (make sure your cinnamon is nice and fresh). Yummy, and better for you than the average cookie!

Thank you for the shout-out! It is much fun, and I’m looking forward to the next weeks. 🙂

This is actually the makeup I’ve been wearing a lot lately, clean skin, no eyeshadow, often even no mascara, and a pop of color on my lips. I’m going to be missing this week’s challenge on Facebook since I got my wisdom teeth out on Tuesday and I kind of look like a chipmunk! I’ll definitely be participating for the rest of the weeks, and I might do a “make-up” for this week’s challenge next week!

These looks are great!! I did this the other day with a bright magenta lip and very natural/clean makeup on the rest of my face. I basically just covered my redness, curled my lashes and fixed my brows with a touch of gel. I really liked the way it looked and I want to do it more often, using all my bright lipcolors!
I adore that pink on your lips and the bright liner looks people submitted like the doublestack and the bright yellow!

These are great (and I really like the bright yellow eyeliner pic). I’m very jealous of people who can wear bright lipstick. I didn’t tell you but we had a “cocktail party” last weekend and I tried at least 6 different lip colors from the UD Vice sampler before I found a single (boring) one that looked decent. I have the worst face for bold lipstick. HAHA!
On another note, your hair looks fab. I have never even thought of savory oatmeal but would take savory over sweet any day, in most things. Cool idea!

You look great!
I’ve worn this makeup look many times to work. It feels too much to wear a smokey eye and bright lips, so I do either one or the other.
