Been getting a lot of questions about the foundation I’ve been wearing (isn’t that always nice?). I wish I could say, “Oh, it’s the latest thing! Honey, this is gonna change your life!”
But it’s not revolutionary. The products have been out a while. It was a former favorite combo of mine about a year ago, and I’ve gotten back into it. I mix NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint with BECCA Backlight Primer, about 75% NARS, 25% BECCA.
I put them on the back of my hand first, mix with my finger, apply, then blend with a wet beautyblender.
Oh, boy, mystical stuff happens when these two get together — velvety NARS Skin Tint and peach-alescent (yes, I’m inventing that word), pearly BECCA Backlight. They turn into THE MOST natural-looking, medium-coverage foundation.
Where do I start? It blurs pores and makes your skin look smoother, and it feels and looks fresh and light.
Always a good look, amirite?
The NARS shade I wear is St. Moritz (a.k.a. “my winter color”), but as I get more sun, I’ll add a few drops of Cuba, because I’m overly complicated like that. 🙂
Really, though, if you aren’t turned off by the idea of getting two shades of the same foundation for your skin in different seasons, I highly recommend it.
I’ve never tried this combo with BECCA First Light, which is their new purple version of Backlight. First Light doesn’t really do anything for my skin tone, but lots of ladies love it. It’s worth a try.
If you live near a Sephora that carries BECCA and NARS, maybe you can take this combo for a spin if you ask an associate for samples, and you never know, they might even hook you up with other samples, too! 🙂 I’ve had that happen, and it always makes my day.
Anywho, that’s the skinny on what I’ve been wearing.
Isn’t it funny how you forget sometimes things that you find and love so much? Why did I ever stop using it?? Something must have distracted me…
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I just bought Nars Velvet Matte in Cuba at your recommendation. This stuff is the shizz! It glides on so nicely. I used it with the YSL Forever Light CC Primer in Apricot. So far, so good! I am going to pick up some Becca per your recommendation. You’re like our own makeup consultant! Thank you! Your suggestions are excellent.

I’ve been doing this too and it’s amazing! Totally my skin but better. I just wish I wouldn’t turn into such a greaseball by the end of the day. Win some, you lose some!

First, love the Becca Backlight! First read about it hear a year + ago and always have a back-up on hand. I love my Sunday Riley tinted primer, but of course it’s being discontinued. I adore NARS and this tinted moisturizer has been on my list for a while (as well as, one other tinted product by them).

I feel like I’m the only one who doesn’t like the Becca Backlight primer! I found it settled into my pores and made my foundation (which doesn’t normally settle, even without primer) settle into my pores as well. I wish it would work for me since it looks so lovely on everyone else! I do a similar thing with the NARS 413 BLKR liquid illuminator and my matte foundations, either MAC Studio Fix Fluid, Revlon Colorstay, or Maybelline Matte and Poreless. I’ll do about a 33-66 mixture of illuminator to foundation, then dab straight foundation on areas I need more coverage.

Seeking out the new possibly holy grail product tends to make me forget my tried and true stuff. I must admit I have NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint but rarely reach for it. Lately my skin has been very dry and dull and it doesn’t help. Never tried the Becca Backlight primer because I used to use Burberry Fresh Glow Luminous Base until it got sold old it started to smell funky.

I was so sad that Becca Blacklight wasn’t good for me! It broke me out (it seemed very fragranced), but it looked so good.

Thanks for sharing the tip! I also mix foundations and highlighters together, or just a fuller coverage and a lighter coverage foundation. My latest favourite combo is armani silk and becca aqua luminous. Works so well!

I’ve been doing this since you wrote about it about a year ago, but with a different foundation – best tip ever! Thank you!

I just got a sample of the NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint, I also have a sample of the primer so I can try them together! I’m currently using a few different ones, I’m road testing Tarte Rainforest of the Sea and Hourglass Illusion. My current main foundation is MUFE Water Blend.
