Metallics rule the new 21-piece Illusions D’Ombres De Chanel collection for fall flaunting eye-catching, shimmery finishes, but a solitary matte blush threatens to steal the crown!
Ooh! It’s like Game of Thrones up in here. 🙂
Well met, lords and ladies. Heya! How’s your hump day been? Mine got epically better this afternoon when I ran into the new Chanel Fall 2011 collection at Nordies after lunch. The limited edition release for eyes, lips and cheeks is available now at Chanel counters and also online, and if you like your makeup with major bling, feast your eyes upon this…

Hello, pigment! My eyes immediately locked on the creamy new line of Illusion D’Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadows ($36), which practically blinded me from across the room. Some products reflect light; these almost give it off. As for how they feel, they have a spongy, soft texture that reminds me of the Buxom Stay There Eye Shadows ($17).
I really dig the three nail polishes in the release (Peridot, Graphite and Quartz). Check out the glitter in Graphite. Wow, right? That there sparkles like chain mail…
I foresee a few of the cream shadows (Illusoire, Eptatant and Mirifique) and at least one of the polishes (Graphite) hopefully coming home with me soon. Other than that, hmm… I’m not sure yet. I have to spend a little more time getting to know the products.
And even MORE Chanel
I played a fun game on chanel.com this afternoon called Let’s See How Much Chanel I Can Put in My Cart. I think it’s a Hasbro game. 🙂 So fun! Between rounds I noticed another fall collection from Chanel, Collection Byzance de Chanel.
From these pics, doesn’t it look like a holiday collection? I don’t know, though. That red blush just moved me.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

It took me a second to realize that some of those swatches were nail polish. Wow, everything’s swatched! You’re amazing!
Karen says
The polishes are gorgeous!
Tracy says
Oh. My. Word. Everything looks soooooooo pretty! Wow am I going to be broke. Oatmeal for a month!
Karen says
Hey, at least it’s healthy. 🙂
beth says
omg that embossed quad and that red blush! i am interested in the formula for the new eyeshadows but none of the colors move me for some reason.
Karen says
They’re really cool in person — very complex with lots of glitter.
BooBooNinja says
Karen, you are a blogging machine! You’ve posted something new very time I check back.
These do look like a holiday collection. The packaging is so elegant and expensive-looking.
*sigh* they do not compare to my NYX stuff.
Karen says
Hi BooBooNinja,
I gotta say that NYX has some really great stuff. Their eyeshadow palettes are a good value!
What are your faves from the line?
BooBooNinja says
Hi Karen,
Sorry, I didn’t catch your response.
I like the NYX single shadows. Their payoff and texture are better than their palettes. However, the St. Marteen palette from the Caribbean Collection offers up 5 nicely matched neutral shades. There is some fallout from those shadows but as a new user, I appreciate how all 5 colours go well together. I’ve got “Pinched”, a powder blush, and think it’s a great summer colour. Not over the top with shimmer, and it’s supposed to be a pinker, less glittery (yes!) version of NARS Orgasm. I’ve noticed that the more recent NARS Orgasm formulations are pinker overall, so you could say that the NYX version is a decent match. I actually prefer it.
I’m trying out NYX bit by bit, so I’m not an expert or anything!
gio says
What a pretty collection, thanks for the swatches.
Karen says
You’re welcome!
Advah says
Illusoire and Epatant are beautiful! And that khaki liner looks gorgeous on your skin, super useful to see how different it looks on a paler skintone.
Karen says
Khaki is so pretty! It has this beautiful brightening effect… which I seriously need these days!
Lolly says
Those creamy eyeshadows….just OMG i hope the chanel will release this collection very soon in my little country 😀
Karen says
I hope they do too!
Bridget S. says
That Rouge JC blush is a winner. It’s simply amazing, even on my NC15 skin, it gives a pretty flush, even though it looks scary in the pan! Chanel.com or the Chanel boutiques!
Karen says
Ahh, want!
Brittany of Suburb Chic says
Those are the most gorgeous, mesmerizing shadows I’ve seen. Ughhh!!! I’m a sparkle addict. Haha. Love this post girl.

Karen says
Do you think you might pick any of the shadows up? 🙂
ladydi says
How do you think the khaki platine compares to the rose platine? I love the rose one and ran out to buy it once I saw your swatches but its hard for me to tell the difference. Worth having both? 🙂
Karen says
Hi Ladydi,
Khaki is a touch more green, while Rose is more of a pinky beige. Here’s a quick comparison swatch with Khaki on the right:
Lilac says
Thank you for the comparison, I have been wondering about those two liners as well 🙂 btw, do you have any idea why the rose liner is with a twist-up mechanism and the khaki like a regular khol kajal? Given the similarities in their naming, I thought khaki would be the same kind of pencil, too. Thank you!
ladydi says
thank you for the swatch comparison Karen 😀 They are both very pretty! May need to get khaki to match that lovely graphite nailpolish =D
Karen says
You’re welcome! 🙂
Kim says
Oh, my – this was a wonderfully, blingy way to start my day! I actually think both collections look like holiday and I completely agree on the blush in Byzance. I was immediately drawn there, too. 🙂 I think I pretty much love everything about Illusions D’Ombres. How could anyone not be wow’d by the sparkle? Cool looking, dark polishes also seem to be synonymous with Chanel! 🙂
Karen says
These cream shadows are SO YOU! Seriously. I’m liking the white one — it’s so fab for when I look exhausted. 🙂
Nina says
i am a HUGE sucker for cream eyeshadows. im definitely curious about this one, and i cant wait to swatch!
Karen says
These are really neat! Are you into bigger pieces of glitter? Because it’s there, baby!
Nina says
i can be … as ong as its a pretty glitter! 🙂
Karen says
It’s very pretty glitter. It’s big enough so that you can see it, but not so big that it’s obnoxious.
AnieJ says
Very nice, but I am most interested in having the black gel/cream eyeshadow instead of a Mac Blackout Paint Pot (those feel a little heavy on my oily lids). Think it’s a good substitute?
Also, I saw the LE Byzantine shadow palette in a magazine, but since I can’t afford like $200 for one thing, it slipped me by…grrr. Anyone else see it; it’s sooooooo beautiful!
Karen says
Yes! It’s even more gorgeous in person — it has teeny, tiny multi-colored sparkles that catch the light.
Kajal Couture says
The nail lacquers are beautiful!!! And that red and gold blush….gorgeous!
Karen says
I know, right? WANT!
Beautiful Canvas says
While watching “The Voice”, I notice the eye makeup on the female contestant pack some major blings and sparkles. I was just wondering what brand they are using. Anyway, the Long Wear Luminous Eye Shadows are gorgeous.
Karen says
I saw that too! I’m guessing it was either something like the white cream shadow here or one of the glitter liners by Urban Decay.
I loved, LOVED the Beautiful duo with Xtina and Beverly!
Larie says
Sorry to be a creeper, but me too! I kept commenting about it while we were watching…the boy just rolled his eyes. I need to get some of these new Chanel cream shadows. They’re gorgeous!
Karen says
Her makeup was so pretty. I love how when she’d blink you’d get a flash of the glitter!
Um, did anybody notice Cee Lo’s smokey eyes in the last number?
Chris25 says
I want all of the eyeshadows. I mean, I can totally go without food for a month, right? 😛
Karen says
Ramen noodles, maybe?
Chris25 says
Perhaps Rocky and Jazz will share their cat food with me? 🙂
Erin says
I already bought Peridot n/p and Epatant e/s yesterday and they are gorgeous! I want so much more from this collection, like the eye shadow quad! But I’ll have to wait a few weeks for that.
Karen says
Peridot is so pretty. What I love about is how different it looks on various skin tones. 🙂 What does it look like on you? On me it’s almost teal!
Joanie says
Sorry the shadows are so sheer on me, clearly I’m a noob at swatching for photos! 😉
Karen says
You did great, my friend!
TJ says
What pretty sparkly! I saw the Lumières Byzantines de Chanel Eye Shadow Palette and am trying very hard to talk myself out of calling around to get my hands on one, I really like their colors for Fall.
Karen says
Me too. I love the quilted pattern on that quad!
Jill says
My Chanel counter didn’t have the full collection yet, but I did get a chance to play around with the long wear eyeshadows. I was pretty unimpressed. I was the first one to swatch them and felt that the color payoff wasn’t great and there was a lot of fall-out in the sparkle.
The quad is gorgeous though, and I’m going back & forth on whether or not to pick it up.
Karen says
I’m the exact opposite. Loved the shadows, but felt sorta “eh” about the quad. What do you think of the polishes?
Jill says
I like the graphite one! I’m pretty sure I’m gonna pick that one up!
THe thing about the quad is, I have one from a few years back that looks so similar, so I think I’m going to hold out for the new Bobbi Brown eyeshadow pallettes.
Karen says
I think I know which one you’re talking about (the name escapes me right now), but yeah, I see the resemblance.
You will love the new Bobbi palettes! They’re gorgeous. 🙂
Claudenka says
can’t believe the fall collections are already coming out 😛 it feels like the summer just began haha
Karen says
I know! I always feel like I’m living in the wrong season, LOL!
Bing says
Alright, you’ve convinced me. The Illusion D’ombre and the nail polishes are just too pretty to pass. Union square Chanel, here I come!
Karen says
Hey Bing,
Are you headed to the Chanel store? I was there a couple weeks ago and the SA said they won’t be getting their stuff until August. The collection’s already out at Neiman’s, though. If/when you go ask for Rocky! I haven’t worked with him, but my good friend and fellow Chanel addict, Joanie, adores him and speaks highly of him.
Bing says
Will let you know and thanks for the referral. I think Saks might be carrying it already as well. Maybe Nordstrom at Corte Madera for us Mariners?
Karen says
I was just there (the Corte Madera Chanel counter) but didn’t pick up anything because the SA wasn’t very nice. 🙁
Josie says
Need, need, need Epatant cream shadwo and khaki platine liner. Thanks for the comparison swatch to rose platine….dammit i want it too now!!! I wonder how much the cream shadows will be in Canada if they are $36 USD?? Yikes! They better be worth it! 🙂
Sarah S. says
I really need that gold blush. I think you should “win” your Chanel game (buy it and swatch it for the benefit of us all!). You don’t mind taking one for the team, do you?
Melody says
Pretty! I have an urge to buy Mirifique but I know I won’t be able to use it very frequently. Hmmm. I’m loving the quad, too. Can’t wait to see more of the Byzance quad either!
Alison says
I can’t wait till this collection gets to the UK, I have already started saving because I want most of it!
The Byzance collection is a separate collection, there is also an upcoming holiday collection which is mostly red and gold too.
Karen says
Sweet! I think you will really love the cream shadows. The darker shades are especially beautiful. 🙂
Marian says
Those cream shadows are perfection! You really can’t go wrong with Chanel!
Gina G says
Wow the Long Wear Luminous Eye shadows are so pretty! Totally out of my budget, but still fun to see swatches.
Hopelessly Devoted To Makeup says
I loved seeing the swatches on NW20 skin as that is my exact coloring – that was uber helpful! Chanel’s Fall Collection is amazing I think and I’m grateful that the illusion d’ombres are perm. so I can take my time and slowly add them to my collection. Thanks again for the helpful swatches, I’ll be coming to take a look again later I’m sure!
