Good morning, ladies. Yesterday I forgot to mention another interesting Illamasqua product that recently caught my eye, this one a loose eyeshadow.
With its shimmery finish, finely-milled texture and vivid color, blue-green Pure Pigment in Conquer ($26) could almost be a dead ringer for a MAC Pigment.
I think being MAC-like puts these Pure Pigments in good company, but the hits don’t stop there.
Props to Illamasqua for the packaging, too. The cap has a small hole with a stopper to help control how much pigment gets released from the sifter. 🙂
Two points for innovation!
But two big points OFF for the price-quantity ratio. It’s quite high for the amount of product you get. The small box comes with 1.3g of pigment (for $26), compared to MAC Pigment jars that come with 7.5g of product and cost $19.50.
I don’t know if Illamasqua plans to drop their pricing for Sephora, but I SURE HOPE THEY DO.
Color selection is a little limited for now; Conquer’s one of only 10 shades currently available on Illamasqua’s website, but things may change once the company has a more direct avenue into the US market later this year.
I love like Conquer, but I’m not as excited about the Pure Pigments as I am about Illamasqua’s Cream Blushers or Lipsticks, because those are just blowing my mind.
Illamasqua makes US landfall later this month, but I’m reading that Sephora plans to start selling the line online as of today. 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Ouch, the price IS a big turnoff. 🙁
Do you think it is worth it compared to a MAC pigment that I can get for $6.50 less and with more product?

Karen says
Hi Maggie,
It’s very similar to a MAC Pigment. You might want to try it just so you can, but honestly, I can’t see a significant difference.
Meream says
Expensive. But that is nice shade.
Karen says
Hi Meream,
I agree. I wish it were less pricey. That’s for sure!
Sherry says
wow.. look at the color!

Hi Sherry,
I know! It’s so pretty.
Joey says
I really don’t see Illamasqua being successful at Sephora – too pricey and too many strange colors for the average consumer. I think it should have started off at Saks or Bergdorf, but that’s just my opinion =/
Karen says
Hi Joey,
Some of the colors/look are pretty out there, but it seems like a lot of the products are pretty wearable, too. I’ve tried a couple that could be considered conservative, like their Blush Duo and Cream Blusher. Who knows? Maybe they’ll take over the universe, LOL!
CC says
I looove Illamasqua packaging. I would totally repurpose the containers for something (I’m not yet sure what that would be) when I’m done with them!
Karen says
Hi CC,
I’d want to keep stud earrings in mine. 🙂
Or maybe beads.
Tiffany says
Wow, on your skin that looks a lot like MAC pigment in blue brown. I think I’ll save my pennies for their cream blushes!
Karen says
Hi Tiffany,
Yah, that might be a good idea. I’m rolling my pennies for the Cream Blushers, Bronzer Duos and Lipsticks!
Dao says
26 bucks for a jar of pigment?! That’s about the same size of a 10gram jar of mineral makeup. With 26 bucks, I can get a whole lot of minerals to play around. And I sure hope this is mineral, not dyed loose powder.
Do you remember Napoleon Perdis at Sephora? He used to sell his pigments there for 20 bucks before Sephora nixed his line and cut it down to 5 dollars. I got 2 of ’em 🙂

Hi Dao,
Yup, I remember that line. I never really got into it, though.
ines, felix and kitten (the office kitties) says
eh… i’m not really a big fan of loose pigments – i wear hard contact lenses and on top of that my eyes are super sensitive – so if i’m not careful with them they make my eyes water like crazy. it’s a beautiful color though, i wonder if there’s a pressed version of it somewhere that’s more contact-friendly!

Hi Ines,
You might want to try Club eyeshadow from MAC. 🙂
Amanda says
…..runs to sephora.com to see if the brand is online yet. But yeah, I’ll stick with mac pigments for now!
Karen says
Hi Amanda,
LOL! I’ve been checking all day. I haven’t seen anything yet.
jennifer says
I too am hoping that the price will be dropped some, because the prices are really expensive i think. The products seem amazing..i really want to try out their foundations because I’m fair skinned and I’ve been told they have a wide color range.
I’ve checked the Sephora website several times today and still not on there that i can see.
.-= jennifer’s last blog post… How many lipsticks do you have? =-.
Karen says
Hi Jennifer,
Me too! I hope that it’ll be up soon.
Kate & Zena says
You know what Conquer reminds me of? Spruce trees that have a very light dusting of snow. Maybe I’ll get it just for nostalgia purposes? That looks waaaaay dark for my uber-pale skin.
Karen says
Hi Kate & Zena,
It might be pretty dark on you… who knows, maybe you can still rock it as a liner or in a smokey look.
Louise Gray says
Well, I will not pay that price. I am waiting to scope out the entire line or what they send to Sephora. Did you know I live two blocks away from Sephora? I am able to keep myself well in check because they do not sell Chanel there. The Llamasqua eye shadow pigment in your photo did remind me of another line-Bare Escentuals. Their eye shadow colors are very nice. But I do not care for loose pigments. Too much waste and it gets everywhere. Now an overlooked part of their line is the eye line colors. These are very intense, unique and complexly pigmented. May I recommend Incense-a multi-dimensional pewter gray which would make a good smokey eye. I did like that green Llamasqua eye shadow but I agree with you, bring down the price!!!
Karen says
Hi Louise Gray,
I am always looking for a good liner to add some spice to a smokey eye. I’ve got it on my list.
If I move next month (crosses fingers) I’ll be five minutes away from Sephora. DANGEROUS!
Kate & Zena says
Liner, maybe.
Or, I could be super crafty and use it as glitter on my clay creatures if I really feel like wasting money. Ha ha ha. 🙂
It would be a good Halloween color for me. I could go crazy with the make-up and do a glittery green Keira Knightley in King Arthur. 😛 Of course, would I really want to pay that much money for Halloween and no costume to match? No, I think I’d be better off hunting for a dupe somewhere.
Karen says
Hi Kate & Zena,
Oh, what a fun costume! I can totally see you pulling off that look for Halloween.
Sarah says
I love how you find the most unique colors! I really like it, I would use it as probably just a liner. I know I want it now though. lol
Sarah
Karen says
Hi Sarah,
It’s pretty, huh? Kinda looks like a peacock feather. 🙂
Marisol says
Great color but expensive!
.-= Marisol’s last blog post… Kindle me this… =-.
Marcela says
That’s a *really* nice colour, I think it’d make an awesome FOTD with gold! Sheez, the price for so little product’s a bit steep, it sort of reminds me of the price I’d have to pay for a dazzleglass here (U$S31!!!), and for that I could get YSL or Dior…it gets on your nerves right?

Karen says
Hi Marcela,
Oh, good call! I can also see it going well with bronze or teal shadows, too. 🙂
Row says
Hi Karen
In the UK Illamasqua works out as one of the more affordable ranges (about the same as MAC so cheaper than Dior, Chanel etc.) The quality is I would say the same as MAC, not necessarily ‘better’ – so I guess people will go for it if they want a particular colour or product ?? Maybe?

Uber pretty color. Uber expensive price.
