Guerlain’s new Liu holiday collection causes what I like to call, the “Tiffany Effect.”
You know when you’re flipping through the pages of a glossy magazine and come to a Tiffany advert, and suddenly the world gets very, very quiet, except for your heart pounding in your chest, and your pupils nearly triple in size? Beads of perspiration may or may not form on your upper lip (totally guilty of this), and you may or may not unconsciously drool or dribble?
If you’ve experienced the Tiffany Effect before, proceed with caution. Similar symptoms have been reported by subjects peeping the pics below… 🙂
Be warned! — the nine limited edition pieces in Guerlain’s new Liu collection are luxurious and addictive, and the recommended treatment is expensive.
FUN FACT: The new Guerlain Liu collection has roots dating back almost 100 years. It was named after a perfume first released in 1929. That perfume, in turn, was named after a character named Liu from an opera first performed in 1926 called Turandot.
The composer was an Italian named Giacomo Puccini… Yes, the same Puccini behind La Bohème.
Cool, yeah? That was like a fun fact wrapped in a fun fact! Dude, you’re gonna be so ready for Final Jeopardy now.
Liu looks like the stuff of champagne wishes and caviar dreams, and it’s priced like it, too, with pieces ranging from $23 for a bottle of nail polish to $170 for a pressed powder compact. The delicate Perfumed Shimmer Powder bottle (you can use the powder on your face, hair and body) and weighty Météorites Wulong compact would look right at home sitting on an empty seat beside you on your private jet, surrounded by matching Louis Vuitton luggage containing several pairs of Jimmy Choos (and a big box of See’s Candies…just because).
Tabs would also be there, of course, draped in diamonds and wearing a tiara.
This is a cat lady makeup fantasy, after all. 🙂
Here’s a closer look at the nine pieces in the collection…
Liu Eye & Lip Calligraphy Palette ($79)
Écrin 4 Couleurs Eye Shadow in 500 Les Ombres Turandot ($59)
Météorites Perles du Dragon ($58)
Météorites Wulong ($170)
Shine Automatique Lipsticks ($35 each)
Nail Polishes ($23 each)
Liu Perfumed Shimmer Powder Face, Body & Hair ($88)
Yeah, I’m really stoked about this one. Love all the fine details, like the weight of the compacts, the patterns on the pans… heck, even the face powder smells amazing! I’m hoping that this collection ends up being like a Burberry trench: super pricey, but you could could wear it every day, which helps make the price easier to bear.
You can find Liu now at Guerlain counters and online at nordstrom.com
Soon…
Project Dining Room is a go! Hopefully, by this time on Friday, if everything goes according to plan, the walls in my dining room will be Wythe Blue.
At least that’s the plan.
I’m excited! — and nervous.
I know it’s only paint, and paint can be changed, but I just hope it turns out well the first time so I don’t feel like yelling, “Wythe! Wythe Blue!”
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Hi Agata,
Yeah, I’m really feeling this one. I love the colors and how elegant it feels!
Do you think you might pick anything up?
Almost to Friday!

I am madly in love with every single piece from the Chanel holiday collection, and now you tempt me with Guerlain? I studied classical voice for years–I have to get some of these! That red lipstick is TDF. And my wallet is crying.
Karen says
Hi Poppy,
That’s cool that you studied classical voice. A few years ago I took singing lessons for fun; I wish I could’ve kept at it, but my teacher moved to So Cal. Anywho, what part do you sing? I’m an alto.
Carina says
Ah, I’ve had that Turandot palette for a while and I am in love. You’ll love it. <3
Karen says
Hi Carina,
I’m very excited about it! How have you been wearing it?
Carina says
Gold washed over lids, upper middle color on inner corner (for some reason?), brown on outer corner/v, lower middle color on crease. 😀
Would love to see some other looks for it, though!
Chelsea says
Ahhh, comme les perles de dragon sont belle! Gorgeous, gorgeous.
Karen says
Oui, oui…okay, there’s the extent of my high school French. LOL!
Chelsea says
I said wow, they’re beautiful!

Meteorites Wulong is on my wish list…I REALLY want that one! I’m just fantasizing about seeing that lovely compact on my counter w/ the rest of my daily use makeup.(I already picked up the Calligraphy pallette!) Btw, Turandot is NOT limited edition so that gives us all the opportunity to pick it up later. 😉
Marina says
I love the plum lipstick and nail polish, have been wearing them a lot 🙂
Marla says
The colors in that palette are beautiful. I am a big fan of Guerlain.

I have a real soft spot for Liu! I still want to swatch it before I make up my mind, but chances are it’s coming home with me 🙂
Nina says
The eyeshadow palette is gorgeous!
Also, we went to see Turandot at the Houston Grand Opera. It was very moving, considering I did not understand a word sung. 🙂
Alison says
This entire collection is so gorgeous! The Tiffany effect, LOL. I’ve wanted to try meterorites for a long time, maybe they should go on my Christmas list this year. Whythe Blue is totally beautiful, good choice!
Perilously Pale says
So gorgeous! You did a wonderful job showcasing the beautiful packaging and products. I’m drooling!

I have the Turandot palette and I really like it, nice for my brown eyes and fall.Although I didn’t find it to be as pigmented as I would have liked. I have meteorites #3 and love them I use it everyday! Can’t wait too see if this new one blends into my NC45 skin tone. I really like the blue paint it’s a relaxing cool color that will look good with brown, white or tan furniture.Good choice!

Wow! Beautiful! I can certainly see the heavy influence of Chinese Opera in all these pieces. Way too spendy for me, but I sure do appreciate them artistically!
