Despite it’s super slim profile, Pixi’s Ultimate Beauty Kit ($40) holds a ton of stuff! — 32 eyeshadows, 16 lip colors and eight blushes, in all, in a cute, streamlined case.
Now you may be saying, “Hrmpf! Why are the glosses so close to the powder blushes?” It’s annoying, I know. But if you can get past that, you’ll find a palette filled with pigmented eyeshadows (I think the metallics, pardon the pun, really shine) and radiant blushes.
The details
- $40 for a combined 56 shades
- Brand-spankin’ new for holiday 2011
- Designed, according to Pixi, to defeat dullness and take you from drab to fab in an instant
- A mix of warm and cool shades in matte, satin and shimmer finishes
- Rich, easy-to-blend eyeshadows
- The sheer-to-medium pigment blushes have a subtle sheen
- The non-sticky, medium-weight glosses range from sheer to (highly) pigmented and have a minty flavor and scent (I don’t mind it) that dissipates quickly

I feel like some of Pixi’s kits cater to lighter lasses, but this one has a few goodies for gals with medium and darker skin tones, too.
A sleek, well-stocked kit with quality products in a nice variety of colors? Yes, please!
PRICE: $40

MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A (wish the glosses weren’t next to the blushes)
How’s it going today? What are you up to this afternoon? I just got back from getting my annual flu shot, which was a bona fide barrel of monkeys, I tell you what. 🙂
I think I may need to comfort myself with something pretty on my nails…
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. Just a quick reminder to enter the The 2011 Breast Cancer Awareness Month Sign Project and Giveaway if you haven’t already. It only takes a minute, and you’d be supporting a good cause while being entered to win one of the biggest giveaways I’ve ever held (worth about $1,100 in makeup!).
Come on, girl. What’s your sign? 🙂
Sonya says
The design of this palette is so pretty! (As are the contents, of course!)
I hear ya on the flu shot. It’s required at my workplace, but is always a dreaded occasion as it tends to give me a mild cold and numb my left pointer finger… o_O Weird.
Karen says
Hi Sonya,
How odd! I haven’t experienced any weird numbing of fingers… although my arm is crazy sore right now! It almost hurts to type.
What kind of work do you do?
vonnie says
they have the CUTEST packaging, i always think that when i see pixi stuff
Karen says
Hi Vonnie,
Yes they do! It’s so cheerful and girly. Love it!
How have you been? Good, I hope. 🙂
Hana_Berlin says
Ehhh not a fan.
Karen says
Is it the glosses next to the blushes, Hana?
Hana_Berlin says
It’s the whole makeup line. I’m pretty sure 90% of their products are made in China. I just can’t get behind a $40 purchase when I know the poor quality control it comes from.
Karen says
Hmm, I’m not sure where this particular piece is made from, but from what I can tell the quality’s great. I’ll have to do more digging…
Hope you’re having a good Wednesday so far. 🙂
Hana_Berlin says
Past two days have been really rough at work =/. Looking to do some retail therapy soon =). All products should have a “Made in ________” to be in compliance with US import/export regulations. My fears with things that are made in non quality control countries is that they may add (harmful ones such as lead) or omit ingredients. Even though it is more expensive to buy products made in quality controlled countries I think it’s safer. Personal opinion.
Joyce says
In the package, the eyeshadows look very neutral and wearable. I think this palette would be great for someone who doesn’t have too much makeup in their collection already since it contains alot of makeup products.
Karen says
Yes! A great starter kit!
Heidi says
Such a nice value for products that seem to have really good color payoff!
I need to get on the whole flu shot thing. I took my Mom to get one a week or so ago. They had a drive through flu clinic at the local Kaiser and I must say, it makes the whole thing mighty convenient!
Just got done with dinner. I made a quick chana masala, an Indian chickpea stew. YUM!
Karen says
Hi Heidi,
I didn’t know Kaiser offered drive through flu clinics. Wow, what will they think of next? Thankfully the one in Novato wasn’t too crowded and I didn’t have to wait in line.
Your dinner sounds delish; I’m currently making mine… butternut squash raviolis from Trader Joe’s.
Any word on the job front this week?
Heidi says
No word yet, unfortunately. Hopefully something will come up by the end of the week.
Karen says
I’m thinking good thoughts for you. So is Tabs!
Chris25 says
It would make a nice gift, but I think I’d rather splurge on the KVD Saint palette.
Karen says
I’ve heard some nice things about her makeup. I’ve still yet to make the jump, though!
How was your day? Good, I hope!
Jessi says
Hi Karen (and Tabs)! I hope your week is going well so far!
I’m impressed by your swatches. The shadows (and blushes, and lippies) actually look pretty pigmented. I wish I knew I would use this enough to justify buying it. I’m at the point where I feel like I have TOO much makeup and it’s a bit overwhelming. Haha, I just end up wearing the same stuff every day. And yet I keep buying new stuff!
Karen says
Hi Jessi,
I know what you mean. I’m pretty sure I don’t need that 25th tube of pink lipstick, but oh well. At least it’s a habit that makes you feel good and doesn’t hurt anyone, you know?
How are you doing? Are things still rough with your neighbor?
Lisa says
I can’t get over the blush to lippie proximity. Sad. Love the left side shadow colors a lot! Isn’t there a NYX palette with similar shades? I saw someone above mention Kat Von D shadows over getting this. I much prefer my Kat Von D shadows over Pixi. (I got one of the tragic palettes that had a cream shadow mixed in with the powders, though. Shakes head.)
I am awaiting my flu shot…I am pretty much required for work. I, too, get a super sore arm. The more shots one gets, generally the lesser the side effects. Keep on getting them everyone! After taking care of tons of sick ER patients with influenza, believe me the shot is Nuthin!
Karen says
My arm is throbbing today, eek!
What kind of work do you do? Are you in the medical field?
Lisa says
I am a Registered Nurse (BSN, RN) in a small rural hospital. We pretty much see and do everything. It is an extremely intricate and rewarding job. I think the throbbing arm after a shot is the worse. 🙁
Kim says
Wow, that’s a whole lot of loot in a very slim package! And, as you say, it seems to have a little something for everyone. Well, except people who are creeped out by the pixi logo. 😉
Nina says
i really love the packaging on this one!
Coral says
Normally I look longingly at Pixi products but never buy, but this looks fantastic. At $40, that’s not a bad price.
Holiday season makes it so hard to resist buying cosmetics. Why must they come out with such good products?!
Lisa says
It would have been interesting if this could have been in tiers like their mineral palettes. BTW Luv those! There is an appeal of having everything flat and “at the ready” though.
Beauty and the Scientist says
Love the sleekness of the palette 🙂
Kiera says
I’m obsessed with the Pixi line. I have the Lumi Lux palette and the All-Over Radiance thingys. I think the packaging is gorgeous and the quality is great. 🙂 I actually plan to do a Pixi review soon as well!
Love the blog. I’ll be keeping up to date with it. Hope you have the time to possibly check mine out too!
xoxo, Kiera
