Glow on with Your Bad Self: Make Up For Ever HD Microfinish Blush

Published in: Makeup

Wearing Make Up For Ever’s HD Microfinish Blush in Quickie

It’s ridonkulous how much time I spend trying to get a “no makeup” makeup look. :) Sometimes I’ll end up spending more time on something subtle with natural looking blushes, lipsticks and whatnot than it takes to do something bolder like a cat eye with pink glossy lips!

Getting makeup to NOT look like makeup can take lots of layering and blending, but there may be another way…

Enter Make Up For Ever’s HD Microfinish Blush ($25, available in 14 shades and carried at Sephora), a new, easy-to-apply liquid cream.

Doesn’t it bug you when you can see cream blushes sitting on top of your skin? This bad boy doesn’t do that. Originally designed for television and movie sets with high definition cameras, HD Microfinish Blush absorbs right into my skin, leaving behind a natural glow (I think so at least).

I’ve been going between Walk of Shame (a creamy bubblegum pink) and Quickie (a salmon pink), wearing both in various ways — on bare skin, beneath foundation, on top of foundation and even on top of powder. No matter how I’ve used ‘em, I think they’ve looked pretty good, and never cakey or heavy. Not only that, but they’ve stayed put all day long.

Walk of Shame, Quickie

Application’s a cinch, too. I’ve been dabbing a few dots on my cheeks and blending with my fingers, which takes less than a minute to do. It might even be faster to apply than powder blush.

I can’t wait to try more of the colors, particularly PDA (a pinkish nude) and Truth or Dare (a hot pink).

Have you checked these out yet? What’s your take on them?

First they’re sour, and then they’re sweet

I go through phases where I’ll get all obsessed with certain snacks and foods, and lately I’ve been craving Sour Patch Kids 24/7.

Late last night I almost asked El Hub to make a run to the store for some. It’s THAT serious! :)

But I never eat the green ones…

I finally got my fix at lunch today. I swear each one tasted like manna from heaven (except for the green ones… I never eat the green ones).

Anywho, enough about my sweet tooth. Do you have any plans this weekend? It’s almost Friday, yay!

I’m thinking about seeing Alice in Wonderland. Have you seen it yet?

Karen

Blushes look great! And yes, I saw AiW opening night :D I adore Tim Burton and he did very well with this movie. It’s fantabulous!

  2. Alli says:

I really loved Alice in Wonderland. I think if you like Tim Burton movies and the Alice stories you’ll like this version.

  3. Rae says:

*gasp* The green ones are my favourite!! (Oh hey, and those blushes look cute too, LOL!) Easily distracted by candy? I think so.

I haven’t seen Alice yet, but I’m dying to. The makeup, CG, and costumes all look just gorgeous :)

  4. Hafsa says:

I <3 cream blushes, I've never seen it in this form before though, but leave it to Makeup for ever to do it :)

Alice in Wonderland was good, my favorite part was Alice's outfits, so fun. And Johnny Depp's makeup was pretty awesome, I kept thinking about the colors and blending techniques the MA probably used whenever they did close-ups of his face LOL! I'm sure you will too.

ps. I love Sour Patch Kids! I love the lemon and orange flavor ones.

I am so ready for this week to be over! It’s just been long . . . at least it’s only 5 full days and a minimum day until our two week spring break!

Next time I head into Sephora, I am *definitely* getting samples of a couple of those blushes. I want to check out 5, 6, 7, 8, and 14.

Alice is definitely on my list of movies to see, but I am not sure when I will go.

Ooo, today I tried using Shell Pearl as an eyeshadow and my blush, with UD Smog liquid liner and it looked wonderful, if I do say so myself :) Thanks for the inspiration!

    • Karen says:

HOT! Shell Pearl is probably one of my favorite things out of the collection! Do you have a shimmery gray shadow? Try it layered on top… super pretty!

Anywhoo, what are your plans for spring break?

  6. Sara says:

Looking gorgeous! I am so loving these blushes!

  7. Ginna says:

I actually went to the Sephora store on Monday looking for it! I was so disappointed they did not have it yet!

  8. Meghan says:

i love those blushes! i really like MUFE, i alternate between using bare minerals foundation and the MUFE high def foundation depending on the occasion (usually use Bare minerals for work and MUFE for nights out)..

i have been wanting to buy one of these new blushes and was originally gonna buy truth or dare (i have been on a hot pink kick lately)..but i think after seeing these pictures i am gonna go order quickie! i have been on major blush kick lately and prob dont need to buy this right now since i just bought sugarbomb but i cant resist!

  9. OMG YOU CAN GIVE ME THE GREEN ONES.

i don’t eat the orange ones.

  10. Jenn says:

ooo i’m even more tempted to try the blush now.

I love the green sour patch kids!

  11. Rica says:

I was kinda skeptical about them when I first saw them. I thought they would be like silicone based for some reason, which I kinda hate. I didn’t even bother to go swatch them. Now, I’m so going to get a sample next time when I go to Sephora. I love a cream blush, especially long lasting ones. But I have never worn it underneath foundation. Is this the only one that can work that way? Or can MAC cream blushes or Stila convertible do that too?

Anyway, I love those sour candies too! (maybe not the exact brand). You know what else is good? Sour Skittles… love =D.
    .-= Rica’s last blog post… NOTD + Another nail polish failure… =-.

  12. Carolyn says:

Karen you look beautiful! That blush looks radiant on you :). have a nice upcoming wkend!

  13. ahahah the green ones are my favorite. actually they might be tied with the red ones. yumm I love sour candy in general. Those cream blushes look gorgeous, I love Quickie (and it looks so natural on you!)
.-= Makeupmorsels’s last blog post… Heads Up: Head To Nordstrom =-.

  14. Ashley says:

I don’t eat Sour Patch Kids often (gee that came out wrong…) but I tend to lean towards the green ones when I do… And nothing else. I’m a green/purple candy fanatic. Like Cadbury Mini Eggs! I don’t eat the yellow ones even though it’s just coloring.
But you couldn’t pay me to pass up MUFE HD MF Blush even if you paid me! I want it even if I won’t use it.. I’m terrible :(

  15. Cas says:

Gosh the colors so are so pretty and the one you’re wearing looks good on ya
    .-= Cas’s last blog post… Bye Bye 1st Trimester =-.

  16. Kypris says:

The blushes look great! I’m trying to save money for a) traveling this summer and b) grad school so maybe I won’t splurge on more makeup in the next little while, but I will keep them in mind in case I am in dire need of a fix ;)

I don’t eat the green ones either! Or at least, I don’t eat them first or last (so I get the best flavours at the beginning and the end) … I feel bad not eating them otherwise! Haha, go figure…

    • Karen says:

That’s a good plan to pop the green ones in the middle! :) I just hand mine off to El Hub… I swear that boy’s like a garbage disposal sometimes.

Where are you planning to go this summer?

  17. Catherine says:

Oooh, these look really pretty! I’ve heard some reports that they’re not that pigmented and very sheer but they look awesome on you!

I really wanna see AiW but I think I’m gonna have to wait ’till after finals next week… maybe Friday night. :D

    And dude, I LOVE Sour Patch Kids. Sadly… I don’t buy them anymore because I have no self control and always end up eating the entire freaking bag (which makes me feel really sick… same with gummy bears) … ^^;;

  18. Ginger says:

I’m lovin’ the eyes!! What did you use and how did you do it?? Thanks! :)

    • Karen says:

I did a quick pink and gray smokey eye using some stuff from MAC. I lined my eyes with MAC Feline, and then smudged it out with Bough Grey (a shimmery gray). Then I buffed the edges of that out with Give Me Liberty, a matte pink. :)

  19. I just have to say,I Luv your blog!!! =}

  20. marisa says:

hi karen! so glad you reviewed this, because i have been impatiently waiting to hear about it!

are these shimmery? and would you say they are the same texture as the primers?
i have such issues blending my matte blushes, i would love one that is as easy to work with as those primers are.

    • Karen says:

The two I tried weren’t shimmery! They look very matte on the skin, but not so matte that the look is flat.

Unfortch I haven’t tried the MUFE primer yet… Texture wise, I’d compare ‘em to a very runny face lotion.

  21. Marina says:

I can’t wait to try this new blush myself! It sounds fab. I am just like you: pick some food that I like and can eat it for weeks :). I am thinking about Alice next week or maybe even the weekend, we’ll see.

I saw Alice in Wonderland.. it wasn’t that good! Pretty decent special effects, but the plotline was weak.. Same with some of the acting!

  23. NINA says:

    Friday! Yay!

We might catch Alice this weekend too … :-)

Im liking First Kiss and Nip Slip (ooh the name is awesome) … but they really all look so pretty!!!

    Blush temptations everywhere!!! ;)

  25. Frances says:

I love the green sour patch kids! Those and the red ones are my favorites!
The blush looks really pretty on you! I’m terrible at picking out what color blushes look good on my skin.

    • Karen says:

      Hi Frances,

You can have the green ones, LOL!

As for blush colors, basically you want something that mimics the natural flush you get after exercising. You could also try this trick: squeeze the tip of one of your fingers, and then find a blush color that matches that color.

  26. Michelle says:

I love the look of cream blushes on other people! I have oily skin though and I’m afraid it will make my pores look huge ;( Maybe I’ll have to give these a test at Sephora. It looks gorg on you!

    • Karen says:

Ooh, I know what you mean. Sometimes that happens to me when the cream is too thick, but this one is pretty thin. Let me know if it works out for you (I’ll keep my fingers crossed).

  27. Christina C says:

They look very interesting. Sounds like they would be perfect for summer. I am going to have to check them out! Thanks!

  28. Karen B says:

Those blushes look awesome I think :)
I haven’t seen AiW yet but I will next Thursday (on a semi date/night out… yay!)

Quickie is the one I bought, too! I have been wanting to grab another shade as well, but can’t decide which shade. You look great in that picture – what foundation are you wearing there?

My sweet tooth is outta control as well! Right now I’m loving on russel stovers coconut eggs since it’s almost Easter time :)

I want to catch Alice also! I also have a school dinner thing tomorrow night that I’m dreading. I think the highlight of my weekend will be hitting up tar-jay on Sunday to check out the Liberty of London collection :)

    • Karen says:

To tell you the truth, I dunno. I’m pretty sure it’s Laura Mercier Oil Free? There’s a slight chance that it’s the Senna one. Sheesh, I really need to get more sleep… my memory is shot to sh*t.

Don’t even get me started on Easter candy. Cadbury Mini Eggs, I DIE!!

What’s going on with your school dinner thingy? Is it gonna be like a mixer?

      • Tiffany says:

LOL your skin does look really glowy like in the Senna post. At least you don’t *look* sleep-deprived!

It’s to celebrate the school’s 50th anniversary. I’m sure the dinner will be really nice, I just hate having to force awkward convo, you know? Hopefully my friends and I can all sit together.

My new goal for tonight: get takeout thai and drink wine and relax. Def looking forward to it. It’s been pouring and hailing all day here :(

Hope your weekend gets off to a good start!

  30. Kelly says:

I have been obsessing over this since I spotted it last week on the Sephora site. It’s official: I’m going to have to try it on in person and face the consequences!

  33. Diana says:

I still have not tried a cream blush because I am so afraid it will look too shiny on me and I prefer the matte look of powder blushes. One of these days though, one of these days I will have to try one!

    • Karen says:

You totally should! Although several of ‘em have a dewy finish, there are also a handful of cream blushes out there that dry down to a matte finish. They’re easy to use and travel friendly. :)

  34. Toni says:

Those blushes look great! I have realized that I probably need to switch to cream type blushes now that I am older. Powders seem to just sit on top of my skin now. I’ll have to check these out, but I don’t think the Sephora closest to me has them. I can run by the Sephora near my daughter’s acting class tomorrow to see if they carry it.

Our plans for the weekend include our ritual Friday night pizza bash with the kids, taking my daughter to play practice tomorrow (the play is Alice in Wonderland. My daughter is part of an ensemble group and she has roles, including the March Hare and the Duchess), and cleaning the house.

    • Karen says:

Sounds like fun! I loves me some pizza. El Hub and I go frequent this place in the town next over… it’s run by an Italian family and the crust is FANTASTIC (I’m all about the crust).

That’s really cool that your daughter is into drama! Is this her first play?

  35. That blush looks lovely on you Karen! The whole look is so pretty. My sephora doesn’t carry MUFE so I will have to live vicariously through you!

  36. Sharon says:

That blush looks really fabulous on you… I wish I could find places around here that sell that brand. Several of the colours look like ones I’d use. :)

    • Karen says:

Oh, I know! The only place I’ve seen it carried mass market is Sephora.

Have you tried any other of the Make Up For Ever products? Some of ‘em are pretty cool.

  37. Amanda says:

love your eye makeup in that picture as well, it’s beautiful!

  38. amy says:

I love sour candies of all kinds, especially Sour Keys! The Quicky colour looks gorgeous and it reminds me of So Sweet So Easy cremeblend blush from MAC.

Karen, you’re so funny! I.LOVE.YOUR.BLOG. :) who doesn’t totally agree with your first sentence. i laughed out loud when i read it. oftentimes, i go for the natural look, smile with the final outcome, then look at the clock and go “whhhaaaat?”

  40. Alexandra says:

They look so pretty.Really would love to try MUFE but its not stocked in any stores in the UK :(

  41. Robin E says:

Are they selling the MUFE blush in Sephora or can you only purchase it online?

    • Karen says:

It’s available online and a few Sephora stores. The stuff that hits the website seems to take a while to filter down to the retail stores, so it might be a spell before you see it locally.

  42. Sharon says:

That looks really pretty on you, and I love the colours available. Really wishing there was a Sephora locally!!

    • Sharon says:

Ohhhh!! I found MUFE at a Shoppers Drug Mart here in the city that I don’t usually go to… will have to go back and check out the blushes when I have more time (also fell in love with their Aqua Eyes)!

  43. Lee says:

ok lets try 4 a 2nd time with this comment since my husband unplugged the net right while i was sending!!!

i would love to let my cheeks discover cream blush but ive always stayed away from them since i have oily skin :( PLEASE HELP!!! how can i use them with oily skin???

  44. Jen in VA says:

    I swear by #5 …. it’s a great pick me up pink!
