Everyone loves blackberries. Take Clinique, for example. Next month they’re introducing Blackberry Bloom, a collection of violet and plum eye, lip and cheek makeup for the holidays. The first time I saw the gorgeous model in this promotional picture — her smokey purple eyes, berry lips and cheeks — I about fell over in my chair!
So, I marshaled my courage and attempted the look with some items from the upcoming collection.
It wasn’t the easiest look I’ve ever tried, but it wasn’t the toughest one either. You can definitely do it with the same shades I used or with other ones already in your collection. Here I used the following items from Clinique Blackberry Bloom:

How to Get the Eyes
To prepare my eyes for the look, I applied a thin layer of primer on my lids using Too Faced Shadow Insurance.
Then, I drew a very thick line on my lids with Black Honey Kohl Shaper.
Because I knew I’d be smudging eyeshadow on top of the liner, I didn’t fuss over how precise I was.
Next, I patted Black Smoke eyeshadow on top of the liner with a MAC 252 eyeshadow brush.
I wanted the color to cover the lid, barely creeping into the crease.
Still using the MAC 252, I applied Black Coffee eyeshadow directly on top of Black Smoke and into the crease.
I blended the colors together to smoothly transition the black into the brown.
Then, with a MAC 217 blending brush, I swept Black Amethyst eyeshadow along the crease and lightly on the brow bone.
With my wee pinky finger, I rubbed out the edges of any lines to soften them away.
Here’s what I had so far…
I kinda wanted to add a little more emphasis to the eyes, so, using a MAC 212 flat definer brush, I lined the lower lash line with Black Smoke eyeshadow.
Curling my lashes with the mighty Shu Uemura lash curler really seemed to make those peepers pop.
Finally, I applied *three* coats of Black Honey High Impact Mascara to my lashes for some extra volume and color.
That’s it! All done with the eyes. 🙂
How to Get the Cheek Look
Luckily, the cheeks are a lot easier than the eyes…
I swept a MAC 129 blush brush across a pan of Fresh Bloom Allover Colour in Blackberry Bloom, a berry cheek and face powder with a lot of pigmentation, and tapped the brush against the side of the sink to unload the excess.
With a big cheese-tacular smile, I swept two layers of the shade onto the applies of my cheeks.
How to Get the Lip Look
As you may have guessed, the lips are super easy…
I started with one layer of Blackberry Bloom lipgloss, followed by Sugarfull lipgloss dotted onto the center of my upper and lower lips. For good measure, I smacked my lips together a few times to thoroughly blend the shades.
And then I rushed out the door!
One last tip: if you think you might want to give this look a try using the Blackberry Bloom items, wait till November 5th to make your purchases. If you spend $25 at Nordstrom Clinique counters on the 5th, you’ll also snag a few freebies thanks to their Trina Turk for Clinique gift-with-purchase offer. I think that GWP palette is hella pretty!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Hey Karen,
Thanks for the info, because I was about to rush out tomorrow to get the mascara and blackberry bloom gloss. I guess I can hold out another week lol!
Lea says
Are the MAC eye brushes you used from the Adoring Carmine collection? I spotted the red handles 🙂
Would you recommend buying them? I’ve read mixed reviews about the quality of the brush sets this year…I’m just starting to get into MAC and don’t own any of their brushes to compare to.
Thanks!

Beautiful look! BTW, can you or a reader tell me the first 5 ingredients in the Clinique eyeshadows? I can’t find this info anywhere online and sadly enough, I’m allergic to most eyeshadows including MAC, Prescriptives, L’Oreal, Milani, Nars, CARGO, CARGO Plantlove *tear* I can use Almay but its so not glamorous, ya know?

Ooh, purples and berries! *Love*

You totally rocked that look, Karen! You look glamorous and glowy, all at once. My British sister-in-law has been telling me I have to check out this collection for ages (they got it earlier in the fall in England), and seeing this definitely makes me think I should. One question — do you think I’d be able to pull off Black Amethyst? I love purple shadows, but I have really (REALLY) fair, cool, skin, so true purples/eggplants work better than berry shadows for me.
Thanks for posting the look!

OMG I’m loving this Blackberry Bloom collection! I’ve always had a thing for violets, so this is totally calling my name. It looks gorgeous on you too! I’m sold. Take me to the nearest Clinique counter, stat!
Marisol says
Soooo gorgeous! Can you do a tutorial on how you do your tutorials? You capture the best colors and your pictures rock. I would be curious as to what you do to get these great tuts.

Hi Tami,
Yay! You should wait because the Trina Turk GWP is really cute. 🙂 You’ll love the palette.
BTW, the mascara shows up as a brown-plum!
Karen says
Hi Gemma,
Unfortunately I don’t have the boxes with the ingredient list. 🙁 There is a customer service number on the Clinique website that you can call — I bet they’ll be able to provide you with the information. The number is:
1-800-419-4041
I found it on clinique’s customer service page online.
Karen says
Hi Glosslizard,
Yay! I figured you’d like this!
Karen says
Hi Faye,
I think you will. The shade goes on pretty sheer. I had to build it up in layers to get it to show like this. And if find it too dark you can always use it as a liner. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Janelle,
I am a little late on the purple train (I feel too Barney if the shades are uber purple), but I feel like this collection is purple I can handle.
Wait ’till November and get your stuff from Nordies! That way you can pick up the GWP!
Karen says
Hi Marisol,
I spend a lot of time thinking beforehand about the best way to break information down. I then think about what pictures will best convey that info. Then, I take a sh*t load of pictures. 🙂
Tutorials take a lot of time to do, so make sure you can do it when you have a good chunk of time!

I really like Black Amethyst & Blackberry Bloom. I have Black Honey eyeliner from a previous launch, it is a fantastic colour for hazel and brown eyes.

Hi Cloudburst,
So true! I’m thinking it’ll be pretty just by itself with Black Amethyst.
Do ya have any of their other Allover Colour powders? Peony is probably my fave.
Karen says
Hi Indian Girl,
I’m wearing Laura Mercier Oil-Free Foundation and MAC Select Moisturecover concealer. 🙂

OooOoOoOh, you look so pretty today! I think Clinique has been doing exceptionally well these days. I totally love this look and that top you wear. It already got colder in my place so no more short sleeves for me.

Such a great tutorial! That must have taken a lot of time (as you already said in comment #13…) I find that I always learn a lot from detailed tutorials like this. Thanks!

This is a really nice collection – I love the packaging of the compacts. So sleek! I think I’m going to pick up the special GWP – my Nordstrom’s been taking preorders for awhile – I guess they’re really pumping this one up!
I like the mascara – it’s gorgeous. How would you say it compares to Badgal plum or Chanel’s new one?
Karen says
Hi Dao,
Thanks! I think Clinique’s been rolling out some pretty collections, too. They do consistently well when it comes to holiday stuff. 🙂 Will you be getting any of the release?
Karen says
Hi Mariah,
Me too! I think this is a wearable purple, too, which makes it nice.
Karen says
Hi Karen Too,
You’re welcome! I like to do them when I have the time so they are fun for me, too. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Laurie,
Clinique’s Black Honey has more plummy pigment than Badgal. For the heck of it I put on four coats the other day and I could really see the color. It’s more of a deep plum-brown, though, so be prepared for that. In terms of thickness it doesn’t beat out Chanel Exceptionnel, but it still thickens and lengthens nicely.
Karen says
Hi Lea,
I have both the regular, long-handled MAC brushes and the brush sets from past holiday collections, and in my experience the regular brushes perform better. The bristles are softer, more dense and they just work better. I wanted to try the holiday ones from this to see if they improved the quality of the brushes in the brush sets, but they are pretty much the same as they were last year. Save your $ for the regular MAC brushes!
Dao says
Hi Karen,
I’m looking for an eye cream actually, so I may try to get one from Clinique. I really love the Bloom but I don’t know if Blackberry is too dark for me. The ones from last year were nice.

This collection just seems so *fall* to me. I love the names of the eyeshadows too. You pulled this look off very welll, and did another great detailed post!
The standouts for me are the mascara (you know I’m into “berry” mascaras this fall, and still haven’t actually GOTTEN one, LOL. This one might be the most budget friendly, yay.) and I love the blackberry lipgloss! But I wonder how similar it is to mac’s jampacked.

Looks great 🙂
I had a great time on my trip to Antwerp yesterday.
Haul:

Today I was an extra for a new Dutch film, de storm (you can find it on imdb) from oscar-nominated director Ben Sombogaart. I had so much fun, even though I had no make-up, my hair was messed up and I was up to my waist in ice-cold water. Lol.

i’m digging the black honey pencil – it’s a matte plum – right now when i smudge out a pencil on my lid for smoky eye it’s shimmery. i love my UD 24/7 pencil in rockstar (shimmery plum) but when i want to do a matte smoky eye this may do the trick!
