Good morning, girls! Happy Friday. 🙂
It’s raining cats and dogs this morning! I’m just sitting here twiddling my thumbs while the coffee brews… I need it desperately this morning because Tabs went totally apesh*t last night, jumping on top of furniture, pawing at the walls and meowing at himself in the dark. I dunno. He gets like this when it rains. First, he meows to go out; then meows to come back in. Over and over, all through the night, ack!
Despite only getting two seconds of sleep, I’m in a pretty good mood. Not only is it Friday, but my attempt to re-create the blue and brown eye Freida Pinto wore to the SAG awards didn’t turn out half bad.
In the picture up top, Freida’s wearing a warm brown in the crease and a bluish gray shadow on the lid. I don’t know the exact products used for her look, but for my version I layered L’Oreal HiP Duo in Magnetic Fields on top of MAC Jadeye Fluidline.
It’s a little more teal than I wanted, but I like how it turned out.
For the rest of the eye, I used MAC Painterly Paint Pot as a base, MAC Soft Brown and MAC Brown Script in the crease and MAC Brule on the brow bone.
To line the eyes, I added MAC Blacktrack on the upper lash line, and to finish, layered Blacktrack and Magnetic on the lower.
I’m going to keep trying this look with other blue cream and powder shadows until I match the same smokey gray blue shade in Freida’s look.
Christian F*#$*@ Bale… The drama continues
My fellow lovers of all things C. Bale, the plot behind his F-bomb tirade thickens. Reader Alexandria sent me a story about how the guy C. Bale flipped out on was widely despised on the set.
This may be wishful thinking, but the article says the guy was often heard telling coworkers, “Why don’t you go stab yourself in the head, you idiot.” Chris supposedly became a hero to the crew after the incident.
I wonder how much of that is true, hmm…
Anyhoo, I hope your Friday gets off to a good start. 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Karen, I love your blog. I discovered it a few weeks ago and read it everyday now. I wanted to tell you that I also tried Freida Pinto’s look yesterday. I did it with:
– HIP Color Truth liner in Midnight Blue
– MAC Contrast
– HIP “Shady” eyeshadow duo (the darker side)
– MAC Blanc Type on the browbone
Rovie says
I really like this look. I think the teal is a good thing but that’s mostly because I love teal. And the Christian Bale rant story seems to get more dramatic by the minute. I personally think he just had a bad day and took it out on the DP.

I don’t care what the peoples say, “I love my blue eyeshadows today.” My tax preparer, Jean A. is the tax collector for her borough and I love her to death. I think that she escaped from a John Waters movie. When I go to get my taxes done, I fly in by the seat of my pants on April 12, 13,or 14. As I give her the figures, I keep my eyes focused on her beehive hairdo, diamond studded harlequin glasses, and blue eyeshadow. We have more than a few laughs and then I am on the way to spend my tax refund. I have several blues-Chanel blue quad and there’s a Chanel duo called River something or other which is a gorgeous seafoamy blue. I love the blue in the Urban Decay ammo palette. I have a NARS cream which is a greeny/blue. Your eye look with the blue eyeshadow is just stunning. I hope that your man appreciates you and your beauty and make sure you rub it in because Valentine’s Day is coming …. Hey, tomorrow it will be 50 degrees here in the ‘burgh. Oh, my word. Spring is on the way. Maybe I need to get out the blue eyeshadow. LOL!!!!!!!! Louise

This look is the HOTNESS!! this look makes me think of LL cool J’s “around the way girl”!
i think i am going to play with your look i think its better than friedas look!! i think the greyer blue would have have been a little blah this has more wow factor!
can i have some of your skin pigment?? i threaten my sister, mother, father and my fiance all the time cause they are the same color as you that i am going to steal some of their skin pigment while they sleep and inject it into my skin lol
ahhhh let c.bale have his rant – you know people piss other people off every day and i believe sometimes people need a reality check lol i went on a rant this am when i got to work cause a client was irritating the crap out of me since early this morning while i was still at home – its like leave me alone !!! business hours are 9-6!!! lord knows i laid a few f bombs when i got to my office cause i was so aggravated!!
YES!!! we are getting some warmer weather louise grey!!! the east coast needs a break of the cold – dont ya agree??? lol!

Love the look, and, as for CBale, I knew there had to be another side to the story. Granted, I still think he has some issues to deal with, but if the guy he cursed out was a total jacka$$ then maybe the dude deserved the cussing out. Who knows? None of us was there, so we’ll never understand the context.

I love the hat. I think I should start incorporating more into my wardrobe…especially now that it’s chilly in the Yay Area.

Your look is definitely pretty. You haven’t quite hit Frieda’s color yet, but the lighter shade of Magnetic looks good on you.
Have you tried the look with the lighter blue in the HiP duo “Spirited?” The Magnetic is bit too metallic looking as it is a “metallic” duo. It looks like Frieda’s is more gray-blue shimmer than metallic teal.
Here’s a picture of Spirited-> http://www.lorealparisusa.com/_us/_en/external/images/products/large/Cos18c_2_large.jpg
Here’s another duo that might work called Showy-> http://www.lorealparisusa.com/_us/_en/external/images/products/large/Cos18d_10_large.jpg
Bah, I wish it were raining here. It’s just sunny, cold and windy! It’s 32 degrees here! Obviously, it’s even colder if the wind were included! *shivering*
How’s Tabs doing now? Is he still going psycho? Zena (my ever faithful puppy dog) goes psycho when it’s thundering outside. Currently, she is sleeping like, well, a dog. She’s curled up on the La-Z-Boy rocking chair moaning in her sleep.
Vampy Varnish says
You know I honestly don’t care if he goes off on people every now and then he’s still HOT and a great actor. I think that most of them probably do that from time to time, it just so happens that this one was recorded…
My cats (who are indoors kitties except when we accompany them in the backyard) are scared of the rain. They will cry to go out then we open the door they hear and see it and their eyes get huge and they are like “um just kidding, I’m not going out in THAT!” 🙂

I like the brown and blue combo on you. Not too teal at all.
My cats are such spoiled rottten, pampered indoor elitists that they barely know what rain is. Oh wait, those clouds do keep their mandatory sunshine from streaming in “their” window. Maybe they do know?
In any case, I am sure Sir Tabs could take my guys in a brawl.
I think Bale went over the line – cursing at someone once casue they did something stupid might be justifiable but he just overdid it and made himself look unprofessional. I read that his producers are having a hard time getting insurance for him now (shades of Robert Downey Jr who had to put up his own bucks for a while).

First off, I actually feel quite better hearing C Bale’s very dramatic freak out was somewhat justified. Normally I wouldn’t give a hot dang about celebs off set but c’mon it’s BATMAN, I had to care.
Anyway, I LOVE this eotd on you. It’s soooo pretty and really brightens up your face. I never thought light blue shadows would mix w/ brown skin and brown eyes. I will definitely look into blue shadows now. Thanks Karen!

love the look – so fun & playful with the beret!
i’m wearing a blue/brown smokey eye today too… it must have been in the air.
for mine, i lined with urban decay’s 24/7 pencil in zero on the the upper lash and honey on the lower, mac’s matte vanilla on the upper lid, tarte’s luuucy i’m home (a deep grey/blue) on the lower lid & blended into the crease and topped off with bare minerals’ bali in the crease and on the inner 1/3 of the lower lid.
have a terrific weekend!

My first comment!! Hi Karen I LOVE that blue/brown look on you! It looks really pretty against your brown eyes. I also love your Christian Bale updates; I’ve loved him since batman begins and it’s always fun to find other people who also think he’s “ridiculously good-looking” (zoolander lol!) I have a question too. I don’t know if you watch food netowrk, but I’m starting to notice the makeup on Sandra Lee on semi-homemade cooking. It is gorgeous! In the show I watched yesterday (she was doing a Greek theme)her eyes looked like a sliver/ dark brown or black smokey thing was goin on. If you happen to see this episode and care to try the look on the blog I would appreciate it. Thanks!!
Amanda says
this look great….but to me Frida’s blue looks darker (almost navy? but I can’t really tell) and more satin-y (vs. matte or metallic or shimmery). This is a great “Quest”-I’m having fun playing along. 🙂
Cats are too funny sometimes. This week our little tabby girl decided she needed to sleep with us, which she only does occasionly…but the sleeping area of choice was on my pillow, between me and the headboard-basically in my hair! nut-so-good thing I’m a pretty heavy sleeper, haha. I woke up with a cat in my hair-hubby said she was pretty much there ALL night.

Hi Rox,
Thanks for sharing your Frieda look. I will have to dig in my MAC stash to see if I have Contrast!
How did your blue turn out? Was it smoky blue/gray, like Frieda’s?
Karen says
Hi Rovie,
Teal is a fun color, isn’t it? Whenever I wear it I feel instantly summery.
What are your favorite teals?
Karen says
Hi Louise Gray,
Ah, is that the Aurora Blues quad from last year’s spring release?
Your tax preparer sounds like a hoot!
Have a good weekend and have fun in the sun!
Karen says
Hi YadiQ,
Oh, LL! I used to be in lurve with him back in the day.
Yes, if there’s ever a process where one can donate a tan then I’ll put you on my list. I already have a few people on there but I’ll bump you up to the top, LOL!
Girl, it sounds like your week was rough. I hope the weekend gets better for you. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Kelly,
Thank you!
That’s so true — it’s always hard to tell what is actually real. If only I could sit down with him for five minutes and ask him what the heck happend. In this fantasy he wouldn’t cuss me out, and perhaps he’d have his shirt off, too.
Karen says
Hi P. Potter,
Hats are fun. I like to get mine from the Gap when they are on sale. You can always personalize them by adding buttons and what not.
They are also handy for bad hair days and rainy days!
Karen says
Hi Kate,
Thanks for the links! Spirited might just have to come home with me soon!
How old is your Zena? And what kind of dog is she? I used to have a mutt named Shauna, but now she lives with my parents so she’s my dad’s dog.
Tabs kept acting a fool throughout the day, crying to go out and to come back in. Now he’s asleep and all is peaceful.
Karen says
Hi Vampy Varnish,
LUCKY! I have no idea why the rain makes Tabs psycho. I think he blames it on me. I let him out and because it’s not what he wants he throws a fit. Grrr!
Do all your kitties get along? I often ponder getting Tabs a sis or bro, but I have a nagging feeling that he’s a only kitty kind of cat.
Karen says
Hi Christina,
Okay, DEAL! I am totally down with that.
Karen says
Hi Stephie,
Oh yes! I hope you try a few blues!
Get a few to play with and mix ’em with your favorite browns. 🙂 You’re going to have so much for playing and discovering, yay!
Karen says
Hi NeenaJ,
Your look sounds really pretty! I will have to look into that Tarte shade… it sounds *perfect*.
You have a great weekend, too!
Karen says
Hi Jenn,
Yay! I am glad that you popped by to say hello!
I remember catching Sandra Lee’s show a looong time ago; it’s been years, though. They give her the *best* lighting and lenses. I wish I could have soft focus 24/7, LOL. I will see if I can find the ep you talked about on Tivo. If you happen to see a picture that’s similar you can always email it to me, too, and I can give it a shot!
Karen says
Hi Amanda,
Yep, it’s darker and less frosty. I think I was under the MAC Jadite spell when I did this look. Every time I open the pot I’m compelled to use it.
Awww, that’s so cute that your tabby baby decided to snuggle up in your hair! 🙂
Karen says
Hi Gio,
Thanks! Do you think you might try it? I hope so!
Karen says
Hi MiMi,
Hola! Thank you very much. 🙂
You have a lovely weekend — lemme know how your look turns out if you end up trying it!
Karen says
Hi Glosslizard,
Thanks! Tonight I will go digging in my drawers to see if I can find a darker blue that’s more gray. Hopefully I can find something. *crosses fingers*
Karen says
Hi Chris,
What kind of cats do you have? Have they always been indoor kitties? One day I hope to keep Tabs indoors 24/7. I think I might feel a little guilty about taking away his freedom, and I’m trying to get over that because I know it’s safer to keep him inside.
Miss QQ says
Hi Karen. I’m late but I must compliment you here. This look is gorgeous! It is so you. 😉
Kate says
Karen–
Zena turned five on January 5. She’s a Decker Rat Terrier. Decker Rat Terriers differ from regular Rat Terriers in many ways but the big ones to look out for are height, weight and facial shape. Zena is 17″ at the shoulders so she towers over regular Rats and weighs 33 pounds (average for the breed) and her head is a bit more round than a regular Rat Terrier’s. She has these little wrinkles when she pricks her ears and her tail resembles a Nike swoosh a bit (her tail has this little tuft at the end that swooshes upwards). She is not the kind of Rat Terrier you tow around in a doggy purse.
I do have photos of Zena on my TeamSugar account-> http://teamsugar.com/user/Ellenora
And you’re very welcome for the links.
Rox says
Karen –
Contrast is closer to navy and doesn’t really have gray in it. But it is a satin finish (so not so much shimmer) and I am a little darker than Freida so it worked out great for me. Kate’s “Spirited” suggestion might be the way to go on you, though. Or maybe NARS Underworld?
Karen says
Hi Miss QQ,
Thank you! I hope you have a lovely weekend. Got any exciting plans?
Karen says
Hi Kate,
Zena looks like she has so much personality. I love her ears!
I don’t have any recent pictures of my dog, Shauna, but here are some old ones. She’s a mutt!
Shauna showing off her tummy
Shauna the wonderdog!
Karen says
Hi Rox,
I went digging in my stash this morning and found the Gentle Fume quad from Smoke Signals (gosh that release seems like it was ages ago). I’m thinking Waft on the lid with Gentle Fume in the inner corner:
Kate says
Yes, Zena does have a wonderful personality. Her ears are cute. We call them “bat ears” which has spurred her nickname Batdog. There’s also the Masked Tuxedo as a nickname since her body markings resemble a tux.
Shauna is adorable. I love her red fur and her very long tail. She looks like a fox with her tipped white tail and red fur.
Rovie says
Karen, to answer your question, my absolute favorite teal is MAC pigment in teal. I think it has the perfect balance of blue and green for my skin tone.
Fabienne says
Hihi Karen!
lol, your Christian Bale thing, so funny! Thank you for posting a Freida Pinto-inspired look, I love love LOVE Freida Pinto. I was so scared I was in an odd boat for being a fan of her! (She’s sooooo enviably pretty, and I’ve never loved bright absolute golden-y Manila Mango yellow until seeing her wear it! I ran out looking for subtle-paisley print pashminas in that shade after seeing that movie. Silly, I know, hehe)
Lovely weekend! (Thankfully it’s sunny now and not all heavy rain like yesterday!)

Oooh, Waft is beautiful. I don’t have that one but you should definitely try it out if you’re feeling in a Frieda mood again. I was today and I tried the look using L’Oreal HIP in Sassy. I love it even more than my first go-round. The side that looks greenish in the pan goes on blue-gray on me.
