3 things that brightened my day…
1. The realization that I’m finally, again (since I watched the show once before), on the last season of The Hills.
I KNOW! Allegedly, Kristin and Brody have decided to get back together…
Whatev. I haven’t really been paying attention since LC left (and I also remember what happened from watching it the first time), but I feel like I’m in so deep that I can’t stop now.
2. Tabs has been so totally into me all day long! 🙂
He had been ignoring me most of the week but for some weird reason today decided I was worthy of his presence, so he’s been following me around the house and sleeping on my lap.
Yeah, I knew Tabs was big…but he looks ginormous in this picture (they say the camera adds 10 pounds). I don’t know, maybe it’s the angle? That, or he’s just a frickin’ huge-@ss cat.
3. And lastly, the NARS Spring 2013 collection! 🙂
No, literally, it brightened my day. See the blue eyeshadow there in the Mad Mad World Duo…?
That’s bright. Like Katy Perry’s blue wig bright.
And that green is no joke, either. After I swatched and photographed it, I cleaned up, and then a few minutes later noticed that my finger had a green stain!
This collection has some serious Roy Gee Biv action happening — red, orange, yellow, green, blue and — not exactly a violet, but more of a purplish pink.
I have a feeling this one’s gonna drive the color-lovers wild, and because of the amount of pigment these pieces pack, I bet they’ll rock the house on darker divas.
Eyes, nails, lips and faces (there are two face powders in the release, both called Translucent Crystal, one pressed and one loose) have something to look forward to here.
NARS says that the color palette was ’90s-inspired, but I wore makeup all through that decade, and I remember a lot more matte browns and beige… 🙂
Maybe he was just talking about the early ’90s, because yeah, there was a lot of pink, purple and blue eye action going on back then.
As for the collection, I’m not exactly sure what to make of it…
I mean, I love the colors and how bright they are, but I haven’t figured how I’m going to work ’em yet. I think I need some playtime over the next few days to explore.
NARS is funny. This happens to me all the time with their seasonal collections. I usually don’t see the themes or how the colors are meant to work together right off the bat. They’re like puzzles, but the pieces usually fall together.
The collection, with the exception of the pressed powder, arrives January 15 at NARS counters and narscosmetics.com, while the pressed powder launches at Sephora on February 1 and later on narscosmetics.com March 15.

Radhika says
Ooooh I love the colors!!!
Heidi says
That’s a whole lotta color there! But, I think I really need that nail polish. I mean, come on, Disco Inferno!
Florence says
That purple blush is so amazing!! I want to try it – it looks berry colored. I wonder if it would go on too dark.
Dee (and Maitai) says
Thanks so much for posting these. Your pictures are gorgeous, and I love the pics of Tabs. =)
ID says
very beautiful collection, especially for dusky complexion
Brandee Corrado says
Can’t wait for the setting powder reviews!!!
Jessica K says
I can’t wait to hear how the setting powders rate! I’m finally running out of my MAC MSF Natural and would love if this was a good one!
Darbie says
Mad mad world is totally coming home to me. Next stop after work 🙂
Teri says
Same here Karen, the collection looks a bit random at first sight but I’m sure there must be some kind of logic behind it. I’m quite excited about most pieces, they look incredibly well pigmented.
Agata says
Wow! The powders look “safe”, as far as the rest of the collection I am not sure if anything would work for me…Maybe the gold eyeshadow stick? I cannot wait to see your reviews though.
Sunny says
That blush and lipstick are the most interesting piece for me! Can’t wait to see how you’d wear Mad Mad World. I bet you’ll rock it, but I’m a wimp who doesn’t want to take on the challenge!
Marina says
I really love the look of an eye shadow and the blush!
Marla says
Those colors are beautiful, just don’t know if I want them in the form of makeup on my face. They are so bright they almost look clownish.
Sarah says
Bouthan Duo Eyeshadow looks so floral & pretty.

Nadege says
I need!!!
Meredith says
I’d love your take on the pressed setting powder. I saw another blogger raving about it. Also maybe a close up of the ingredients? The colors are beautiful to look at but with my super pale skin I think I would look way too much like a clown!
April says
I can’t wait to try the pressed powder!
KPrice says
I am super interested in that blush.
Ruchita says
The Bouthan Duo Eyeshadow and Seduction Blush look pretty! Sleey Tabs looks like such an angel. It looks like he’s smiling in that pic. 🙂
I know what you mean about big cats – Mingy’s around 15 lbs and very long and (mostly) lean. Nina will still try and play-fight with him, but he’s gentle with her.
Kim says
Bright is right! I really love the Mad, Mad World color combo – I wouldn’t wear it, but I love how it looks in the pan. And I’m confident you’re going to find some great ways to rock all these colors. 🙂
That’s a crazy angle for Tabs. Check out the difference in size between his head and your hand. He looks like a giant! HAHA!
sillylilacs says
Corcovado looks amazing! 😀 Aww Tabs, he looks so comfy in the picture with your hand 🙂
Karla says
Ahhh I had higher hopes for the nail polish! Darn!
Kate says
I too scratched my head about the 90s theme. Wasn’t that the era of neutrals and brown lipstick? I’m not going to worry about it too much, though. There are way too many lovely colours to split hairs over inspiration!
Chelsea says
I’m definitely intrigued by the powders!
I love Tabs <3 Jiji was very snuggly yesterday too (especially since it was my day off!) – He would climb in my lap and just start purring. I also woke up with him cuddled up under my arm this morning, which was very nice.
Dollie says
Seduction blush, Dressed To Kill Lipstick and Disco Inferno…love at first sight…sigh!
Carina says
Omg THAT BLUSH. SO BEAUTIFUL.
Katherine G says
Definitely looks like a cool collection. I love the yellow/gold eyeshadow pencil and the Persia eyeshadow looks interesting – not many people can pull off a bright red on the eyes like that. I was gonna say I grew up in the 90’s and I remember a lot more neutrals than brights…brights were really the 80’s!
Alice Ann says
Ok, Tabs is ridiculously cute. I love a giant tabby. Oh, Nars…why do you tempt me so? I’m intrigued by everything but the lip pencil and nail polish. I really like his lipstick formula (the semi-matte) and blush (Cactus Flower is my favorite) so I’m sure I’ll be trying these two. I’m really liking all of the eye colors, but those are tougher for me as I wear glasses and eye make-up gets lost. I’m really looking forward to seeing the collection worn, thanks for the sneak peek!
Alison M says
Seduction blush is a must have on my list. But I think Dressed to Kill is joining it! While I won’t be purchasing most of the collection, I like the challenge it presents to incorporate a variety of shades. I’ll probably shop my stash and try to make a few of these combinations work.
Lilly says
Karen,
I can’t tell from the photo, but is Seduction Blush a matte, or does it have a sheen or shimmer to the product?
I love NARS blushes and am super interested in picking up this shade!
Thanks! 🙂

Ooh! Mad Mad World is something to look forward to!

This collection is gorgeous ! I need the reflecting powder, the 2 duos and the lipstick, possibly the nail polish too. I have known the brand for 2 years or so ( before that I was a bit afraid of… coulours ! ), I now buy from each collection, at Sephora some girls call me ” Mrs Nars ” well lol it’s true in a way I love Nars !
Paige says
The collection displays a rainbow of colors. Being a neutral gal, I’m not so sure how I could wear these.
Kalli says
That blush is so intriguing! I love the color. And the velvet lipgloss pencil looks so pretty in the swatch!
Becca @ The Beauty Sample says
I’m not gonna lie–I’m a liiitle bit scared of this collection 😛
Jennifer says
EEK! All that color scares me!
Steph says
I want that blush!
Swatch And Learn says
Aww…I love the photos of Tabs cuddling your arm while you were working on the computer! What a sweet feline!
Glenda says
Wow! Those are so bright! Looks so much like Sugarpill colors! I <3 NARS. I need that pink e/s duo.ðŸ˜

Since I been bed surfing once again I’ve been looking at these wounderfull collection.. There is nothing like a new Nars collection that gets my attention especially since I was so good and did not buy anything from the winter collection. I do dig the seducation blush and the the dress to kill lipstick and finally there loose setting powder and the press compact.. So intriguing can not wait till February..

I take back my previous comment on an older post about the NARS Crystal Powder! Looking forward to your take on the product. Or maybe I am just completely overlooking the post, perhaps you could help me with that? Sorry!
