This post is part of a series sponsored by Walgreens.
There I was, just minding my own business in front of the house yesterday, enjoying a brief respite from the recent rains and daydreaming about some of my favorite fall noms, like candy corn, pumpkin pie and mashed potatoes (Mmm… gravy), when it hit me: CRAP! I have a ton of stuff to do this month.
Summer lulled me into a trap, and now I’m paying the price. I spent so much time lounging around, lapping up the sunshine and generally doing everything at a slightly slower pace that now I feel unprepared for fall.
BAM! Now there are cat costumes to find, pumpkins to carve, presents to buy, cards to send and recipes to perfect before Thanksgiving. This fall, if you’re trying to make the most of your budget and your time (while saving up for your cat’s Christmas present), look no further than these beauty bargains for eyes, cheeks and lips.
Eyes
- Jordana Easyliner Retractable Eye Liner Pencils ($1.99) — Shave minutes from your morning routine with these creamy, pigmented pencil liners. They’re twist-ups, so no sharpening required. For a quick smokey look that lasts, I’ll line my lash and water lines with my favorite shade, Eggplant (a dark purplish brown), and smudge out the edges with a Q-Tip or brush.
- Rimmel Gentle Eye Make Up Remover ($6.99) — Sauron says, “It’s the drugstore eye makeup remover to rule them all!” Rimmel Extra Gentle whisks away makeup like an Olympic sprinter, and it even works without rinsing. I use it all the time to remove excess mascara on my lids (which seems to happen, like, every morning!).
Cheeks
- Neutrogena Healthy Skin Custom Glow Blush & Bronzer ($12.99) — I’ve been a huge fan of these powder duos forever! Each of the four pans — Raisin Glow, Posie Glow, Natural Glow and Rosy Glow — comes with an easy-to-blend blush and a bronzer, side by side, so no more having to hunt and peck for your cheek products. I feel like my favorite of the bunch, Rosy Glow, lights up my complexion without looking overdone.
Lips
- Wet n Wild ColorIcon Lipliner in 666 Brandywine ($0.99) — No joke, but I’ve had at least one stick of this shimmery wine liner in my makeup stash for at least 15 years. At less than a buck, it’s the dictionary definition of bargain beauty. Not only does it cost less than a cappuccino, it doesn’t dry out my lips, and it resists fading and feathering for hours. For a polished, quick lip look, I’ll line and fill in my lips with Brandywine before applying a lip balm on top. Easy chic!
- L’Oreal Infallible Gloss ($9.99) — Not a lover of lip liners? — then these pigmented, long-wearing lip glosses might be a great option for you. Especially if you like to set it and forget it, as in putting on your makeup in the morning and not having to think about it for the rest of the day.
They’re sticky, so if it’s windy out yonder way, you may have to contend with stray hairs getting caught in your lips, but you won’t have to reapply for hours. And hours. I get between four to six hours out of them, and they come in a bunch of groovy colors.
This fall, I’ve been loving Admiration, a sheer creamy nude from L’Oreal’s limited edition Color Hope collection.
Clockwise from the bottom: Jordana Easyliner in Eggplant, Wet n Wild Lipliner in 666 Brandywine, L’Oreal Infallible Gloss in Admiration, Rimmel Gentle Eye Make Up Remover, and Neutrogena Healthy Skin Custom Glow Blush & Bronzer in Rosy Glow
Swatches from the left: Jordana Easyliner in Eggplant, Wet n Wild Lipliner in 666 Brandywine, L’Oreal Infallible Gloss in Admiration, Blush and Bronzer from Neutrogena Healthy Skin Custom Glow Blush & Bronzer in Rosy Glow
Wearing Jordana Easyliner in Eggplant on lash and waterlines, Neutrogena Healthy Skin Custom Glow Blush & Bronzer in Rosy Glow on cheeks and Wet n Wild Lipliner in 666 Brandywine and L’Oreal Infallible Gloss in Admiration on lips
This fall look fly, polished and put together, no matter what. 🙂

Fieran says
You’re looking gorgeous, Karen 🙂
That Wet n’ Wild lipliner for 99 cents is impressive. I shall look for it the next time I’m in a drugstore in USA.
Karen says
Thanks, Fieran. Do you think you’ll be visiting soon! You gotta come back to SF in the fall (the BEST time of year).
Fieran says
Hi Karen 🙂 I’d love to visit SF again but life isn’t taking me there…yet. Instead I’ll be in Seattle next month for work and New York for New Years’ Eve. I’m really looking forward.
Karen says
Aw, wish you could come back to see the Bay, but you won’t be disappointed by those cities. They’re both so beautiful and vibrant.
Chris25 says
I have been trying Brandyqinw since I was 12. 🙂
I heard about Jordana’s liners. I didn’t think much of their line when I was a teen, but it looks like they’ve changed for the better.
Chris25 says
*buying Brandywine*. I haven’t had coffee yet. 😛
Karen says
I know that feeling all to well! I’m drinking green tea right now and waiting for it to kick in.
What do you usually like to wear Brandywine with? (Oh, and if you have Clinique’s Black Honey around… they look GREAT together).
Chris25 says
I typically wear it topped with gloss or balm. 🙂
Karen says
Me too. Great minds think alike. 😉
Twyla Munden says
I LOVE the Rimmel eye makeup remover!! I have all my sisters using it too!~~ love how you can remove an ‘oopsy’ and there is no grease left behind so you can touch up and its back to perfect makeup…
Karen says
Isn’t it the best? I usually pick up a bottle or two when they go on sale. 🙂 I love how it takes everything off and doesn’t leave my eyes all cloudy!
Kim says
I really like the shape of the Infallible package and, if Sauron says (on the Rimmel remover), middle earth should take note. 🙂
Karen says
I’m pretty sure I’ve seen more than a few middle earth residents lining their water and lash lines… LOL!
Hope things are better with your friends today. No drama on Tuesday! That’s the new rule.
Kim says
HAHA! No doubt!
Yes, things are looking up, thanks! She has some nightmare in-laws that are always wreaking havoc. After 15 years, she’s finally had enough and has put her foot down. She’s a very quiet person who just minds her own business so it was hard to finally speak her mind, but a person can only suffer silently for so long! 🙂
Nina says
those wet n wild lip pencils are the best i have ever used! there are even times when they are on sale for .69 cents a pop!
i have all colors and im pretty much set as far as lipliners are concerned!
Karen says
Hi Nina,
G’morning! Aren’t those lip liners a steal? What I really love about them is how much you get for your money. Oh, and the fact that they haven’t raised the price in forever.
Do you ever wear Clinique Black Honey? Brandywine looks really pretty with it.
Happy Tuesday!
Nina says
Black Honey is almost always my lip color when i leave the house. it changes through the day since i keep a little basket of lipbalms/lipsticks in my desk at work. ill try it w/ Brandywine! thanks for the tip!
happy tuesday!
Karen says
Same thing with me! I’ll often end up going with whatever I have in my purse or pocket at the time. 🙂
I learned the Black Honey w/Brandywine trick from my college roommate. I swear it looks good on almost everyone (she was blonde with fair!).
Nina says
i really think Black Honey is one of the most underrated lipsticks out there! 🙂
Karen says
I think so too. The funny thing is it looks SUPER scary in the tube, but on it’s just so natural!
Nina says
it almost looks like a gothy black lippie! 😀
Ricki says
This post is timely! I’ve had to make drastic cuts to what I spend on make-up and it’s really tough to find good colors for my brown skin tone in drug stores because we usually can’t try on products. Now I can walk into Walgreens with an exact list of what I need for fall and will spend less than $30.
Karen says
Hi Ricki,
Glad you found this helpful. 🙂 Let me know what you think of the makeup… I hope you love it!
Sherry says
Hey Karen,
This look really suits you! I hadn’t thought about WnW lip liners in a long time..I’ll have to pick up Brandywine. Are you wearing no foundation in this picture? Your skin looks realy good!
Karen says
Hi Sherry,
Yup, I’m wearing Chanel Mat Lumiere. Have you tried it before? It’s pricey but photographs really well.
Sherry says
Bought it and liked it but the color the sales lady found for me was slightly too orange (it was called Ginger I think?) I’ll have to go and get color matched again. Thanks for the fast response! Hope you are having a beautiful day!
Karen says
That’s one of the bummers about Chanel (besides the price, eek!) — wish they had a wider range of colors. But if you can find a color that works for you, then you’re good! 🙂
Not sure if you’re a MAC girl, but the MAC Studio Sculpt is pretty good, too.
Amanda says
wow you look super pretty!!! no lie, natural works for you!
Karen says
Thanks, Amanda! What are your favorite beauty bargains?
Natasia says
I love the blush! Neutrogena products are really great. I used to use the lipgloss.
Karen says
Me too! The one in the tube is great for taking to the beach. 🙂
Have you used their blushes before? They’re really nice and easy to wear.
Sarah says
Love this post! I’m totally going to have to steal this look! I’m always looking for quick make-up tips. I don’t want to look like I rolled out of bed, but I usually don’t have a lot of time either. Thanks!
Karen says
You’re welcome, Sarah. What are your go-to quickie makeup products?
Swatch And Learn says
Cat costumes? Nice. Do you know what kind of costumes you’re going to get for Tabs? Hehe, and is he patient enough to wear them, or does he want to take them off the second you put it on him?
Karen says
He loves dressing up! Last year he was a yellow submarine:

Tessaa says
Thats cute. On sunday I picked up a cow costume for my cat. Hes a big boy so i had to get a large in the dogs (a small large dog lol). Hopefully he will stay upstairs so the trick or treaters can see him.
Karen says
How cute! Tabs is a big boy, too. We had to do some modifications to get his costume to fit last year, LOL. I still have to find him one… where did you get your kitty’s costume?
Vonvon says
I am digging the Eggplant eyeliner! Just my kind of shade! As I have commented this morning on the Sugar Plum shade….. This color family is really my favorite.
Karen says
Hi Vonvon,
Eggplant rocks! It’s the perfect balance between purple and brown.
steph b says
Infallible in Undeniable Mauve is one of my gloss staples. Many MLBB shades pull brown on my lips but this stays soft and pink. It is sticky, but I don’t mind it as much as some other sticky glosses because it doesn’t feel too thick on. I hate that.
Karen says
I’ll have to check out that color. I’m really enjoying this gloss… no fuss, and it’s so affordable.
Resa says
In the last sentence when you said no matter what, I totally said it in the orbit lady’s voice haha. How does the jordana eyeliner wear? Does it smudge?
Karen says
Hi Resa,
The wear time’s pretty good. It gets a teensy bit smudgy toward the end of the day, but generally it doesn’t move. Not bad at all for $2!
Katherine G says
I love drugstore makeup. One of my favorite brands is Milani, a bargain Italian line of makeup. Milani has some of the best liquid eyeliners I have ever used, besides Urban Decay liners. They last all day and they definitely take some elbow grease to remove! I will be looking at that eye makeup remover. I’m all for bargains and something that can remove my waterproof liner and mascara. I like L’Oreal mascaras, and the Infallible lip glosses look like something new I can try. Great post! I love Sephora and other designer places but I can’t shop there all the time (cuz I’d be broke) so I love great drugstore deals!
Karen says
Hi Katherine,
I enjoy Milani, too. They have some really nice pieces!
Since you mentioned liking L’Oreal… You might like Le Gloss:

Coral says
I had planned a trip to Walgreens today and decided to pick up the Jordana eyeliner from this review and I’m already in love. It goes on fantastic and the color is great. Now I want to get more colors. Thank goodness they are only $2!
Karen says
Hi Coral,
Yay! I’m so pleased to hear you like it. Isn’t it great for a fast, quick look? Plus… it doesn’t move! Not bad at all for $2.
I have a post lined up with more swatches of the liners, so stay tuned!
Klara says
such a great package! and for a very affordable price. tomorrow im going to get some of them:) i love all these autumn colours…
Karen says
Glad you like these drugstore bargain beauties, Klara!
Stef Smith says
I’ve had the Wet ‘N Wild Brandywine liner in my makeup bag since forever! I love it! I use it more than any other liner, because the color is so perfect!
Karen says
YES! It’s just one of those colors that WORKS. What do you usually like to wear it with, Stef?
Hana_Berlin says
Lovely! Very beautiful on you. I love that you post both bargin and high end products. =)
Karen says
Thanks, Hana! What are some of your drugstore beauty faves?
