Estee Lauder Tawny Lip Pencil Plus MAC Nymphette Equals Pure Genius
Wed, 09/2/2009 by Karen | Posted in: Makeup

Oh, happy day, fellow Liz Lemons! I just found an *awesome* lip pencil that looks like one of my favorite MAC Lipglasses but comes in stick/pencil form.
It goes by the name of Tawny (sooo ’80s Whitesnake video); it’s a shimmery golden pink — one of the 14 new Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Lip Pencils ($19).
Almost a dead ringer for MAC Nymphette, yah?

A swatch of Tawny
I’ve always worn Nymphette all by herself, but I’ve often wished for a coordinating pencil that I could wear with it to make it last a little longer on my lips.

Nymphette layered on top of Tawny
EL must have ESP because a base layer of Tawny totally extends Nymphette’s wear time, and because the two colors go together so well, Nymphette’s looks just as gorgeous as ever.

Everything about this pencil rocks. The formula? Smooove, lightweight and creamy … like a lip glider.
Nymphette fans, you gotta give Tawny a try.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

How are you feeling today, Karen?
Hm, I may have to break out one of my lipliners and do that trick to see if it makes my lipgloss last longer.
I’m back from the dreaded (albeit nice) dentist. I got two fillings and a referral to the big evil dentist for the even more evil idea–a root canal. Apparently, something is going on in the nerve of one tooth (it has a “dark shadow”) and he doesn’t want to risk hitting the nerve repairing that filling. I have a big list of dental to dos now. Ugh.
I actually got kisses from Her Holiness, the Queen Zena when I came back. She usually never gives kisses if I’m coming from the dentist. She got a very long walk and now she’s sleeping on my mom’s feet. It’s rather cute. She even ate all of her doggy food today instead of leaving a few pieces behind. This, of course, only happened after the walk where she got pet by a cute little 14 month old baby girl. It was so cute! Zena was grinning ear-to-ear, as you might imagine. Apparently, she not only attracts adult human and the senior citizen human but the juvenile version as well.

Hi Nancy,
You’re welcome! I freaked out when I found this color — don’t be surprised if you squeal when you see it.
Hope you’re having a nice evening!

Hi Kate & Zena,
Much better than yesterday — thanks for asking! It was sweltering hot here again, so I spent most of the day in front of the fan.
UGH! I hope that your appointment wasn’t too bad. Did they knock you out?

Whitesnake…oh no you didn’t! I was at the MAC Pro store yesterday and I forgot to check out Nymphette. Darn!

DUDE! You need to get on that ASAP.
And I know you still can sing along to “Here I goooooo again!”

I used to use EL a lot, but haven’t used their products for years (except the bronze goddess fragrance – love!)
Anyway, I’ve been intereested in using their products again, maybe because they’ve modernised their colour pallette, I don’t know.
I just wanted to know how their lipsticks compare to Chanel Rouge Allure/hydrabase as I find these really moisturising and are the only lippies that don’t make my lips chap.
The Tawny pencil and nymphette combo looks amazing on you, I am always on the lookout for my perfect lip products.

Hey Karen!
Tawny looks beautiful, though I’ve never used a lip pencil. But I love pink-gold combo so this could be great.
I’ve always wondered about Nymphette because it would be a perfect colour for me, but I always get such a terrible allergic reaction on MAC lip glosses! Does this one have that cooling, tingly feel on the lips (that usually hurts me like hell) ? If it doesn’t, I might give it a try!
As for my day, I’m having a dreadful one- had a huge exam (last before going to my masters program) and had only 2 h of sleep. Yea, I’m a zombie today.

As I said before I totally love Nymphette, it’s one of my favorite pink colors. If you so trust in this Tawny I think i will give it a try and see the result by myself. Thx for the tip Karen

Thanks for the colour suggestion! I can’t remember the last time I headed over to the Estee Lauder counter (I have been too buys loitering about the MAC counter and Sephora) — but I am buying this lip pencil!! So pretty!
18. Karen said, on September 3rd, 2009:
Hi Michelle,
Yay! I hope that you like it. Estee Lauder has been releasing a lot of good stuff lately! They’re like, cool again!
What have you been eyeing at the MAC counter?
19. Karen said, on September 3rd, 2009:
Hi Tavia,
You’re welcome.
Hope you like it!
20. Karen said, on September 3rd, 2009:
Hi Sonja,
Oh, I know which one you’re talking about — Plushglass, right? That’s the tingly one. The Lipglasses don’t hurt; they’re just sticky.
How did you do on your exam? A or A++?
21. Karen said, on September 3rd, 2009:
Hi Nina,
Yah! It works magic to make it last longer. I hope you try it!
22. Karen said, on September 3rd, 2009:
Hi Marina,
Yeah, I agree. They’ve really turned it up a notch this year!
23. Karen said, on September 3rd, 2009:
Hi Blovet Beauty,
Thanks.
24. Karen said, on September 3rd, 2009:
Hi Alison,
I’ve had pretty good luck with EL lipsticks and glosses. The thing is, though, that they’re heavily scented. I kinda like the smell, but if you’re sensitive to scent it’s definitely something to think about.

Arghhh! Pretty! Can. Not. Resist. Temptation! I may be going to visit family in Brasil in a couple of weeks, it may just be the perfect time to snag Nymphette.

Tawny has been around forever. Then they discontinued it and brought it back. It was my first lip liner ever…I still love it, but I’ve cut down on the number of liners I want to keep around, and stuck to Spice.

Ha ha, Karen. No, he didn’t knock me out. He numbed out my top tooth first before he checked the X-Ray and boy, getting Novocaine in the back of your tooth doesn’t pinch like a regular shot but stings like a really bad bee sting! I had to remind myself to breathe. The bottom two tiny shots didn’t hurt at all. Shots don’t bother me really, it’s the sound of the drills, particularly the fast-speed drill.
He kept asking me if I were okay because I felt myself doing a myriad of facial expressions. It’s not so much that it hurts but it’s uncomfortable to have the drill that close to my bottom lip, even numbed out. I’m so used to routine dental procedures from two rounds of braces and two years of dental reconstruction I just get bored in the seat. Really, really bored. I wish my dentist had a tv and DVD player so I could watch movies while being worked on. I had one at my first orthodontist and it was so cool. I was watching Star Wars whilst getting my first set of braces!
28. Alison said, on September 3rd, 2009:
Thanks Karen!
I’m not really sensitive to smell, I use a lot of Chanel prducts and they can be quite heavily scented, I think you get used to it and don’t really notice after a while.
29. giselle said, on September 3rd, 2009:
oh karen could you please review estee lauder double wear stay-in-place concealer? i’m really interested in it but i can’t bring myself to spend the $20 not knowing if its worth it.
30. Karen said, on September 3rd, 2009:
Hi Giselle,
I will add that to my ever-expanding list! Hopefully I can pick some up soon.
31. Karen said, on September 3rd, 2009:
Hi Alison,
Sure thing.
I have a few EL lipsticks and really enjoy them. I love the gold, fluted tubs — so elegant and classy!
32. Karen said, on September 3rd, 2009:
Hi Kate & Zena,
Yeah, I hate the sound of the drill and seeing it come out of the corner of my eye. UGH!
My dentist told me that some really high tech offices have these wraparound glasses you can put on which have screens inside the glasses. How cool would that be?!?
Hmm, do you have an MP3 player? Maybe you can listen to a podcast next time they’re working on you to pass the time.
33. Karen said, on September 3rd, 2009:
Hi Alice,
Good to know. I guess this is the new formulation since this lip liner group is new.
I will have to try Spice soon!

Hi Marce,
Brazil! I’ve always wanted to go!
35. Michelle said, on September 3rd, 2009:
Karen — I am always eyeing something at the MAC counter. I have had my eye on that Photorealism quad — just haven’t bought it yet. There always seems to be lipsticks, lipglasses, and eyeshadows that I “need” from their permanent line, too. Your blog is encouraging me to branch out, though, which is a good thing
So, looks like I’m adding the lipliner to my list, too.
36. Karen said, on September 3rd, 2009:
Hi Michelle,
You and me both, girl! I am always lusting after stuff at MAC — both new and perm! Right now I want some CCBs and some fragrances. I still gotta get Turquotic…
Anyway, I love MAC, but I love stuff from other lines, too. I think half the fun of makeup is that there’s just so much to explore, you know?

My brother listens to music while he gets his teeth cleaned. As the radio is always on in the dentist, it would be too many noises for me to handle bringing in an iPod. I’d have to make it louder than the drill and the radio! I’m more the I’ve-got-move bored person so music doesn’t help the need to move something other than my mouth. I’m normally done in an hour or hour and a half so I’m okay usually. It’s when it’s two hours plus that I have to move!
Wraparound glasses that play movies. How bizarre. I wonder if they passed the Epilepsy tests. If they use LED screens, I’m out of luck.
