Estee Lauder must have heard how much I love cream eyeshadows (LOL!) because they just released a new line of 10 called Double Wear ShadowCremes ($17.50 each).

When I checked them out today I had some serious MAC Paint Pot ($16.50) de ja vu/vu ja de.
If I were to close my eyes and touch a Double Wear shadow, I’d probably mistake it for a Paint Pot. They have a similar medium-weight feel to them, and they even look like Paint Pots, too, having a rich pigmentation that, like Paint Pots, lasts for hours without budging a bit. They’re like MAC Paint Pots in almost every way beyond the packaging and that they cost a buck more.
I was swatching the colors at a counter when a few of the shades reminded me of last year’s Paint Pots from the MAC Fafi collection.
I think Pink Blush looks like a lot like Perky, Sea Mist resembles Rollickin’ and Vintage Violate bears a striking resemblance to Nice Vice. If you missed the Fafi Paint Pots last year, this might be a great opportunity to score some near-dupes.
And this isn’t a Fafi dupe, but doesn’t Estee Lauder’s Precious Jade remind you of MAC Fluidline gel liner in Sweet Sage (a shimmery greenish gold)?

I *love* the MAC Paint Pots and cream shadows in general. Even though these cost one dollar more than the MAC ones I still think there’s some really hot colors. I’ve my eye on both Antique Gold and Blue Velvet!
What do you think of these? Cute? Not so cute?
The new playlist
This afternoon while I was looking for music to revamp my running playlist I came across Keri Hilson’s Turnin Me On. Have you heard it? I’ve already watched the video about 10 times today, and now I’m kinda obsessed Keri’s makeup in it. Girlfriend’s pale, shiny lip and smokey eye combo looks hot!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

I am loving sea mist and blue velvet, so pretty!
Citrine´s last blog post..Revlon Not So Blue Berry
Karen says
Hi Citrine,
Yeah! Sea Mist looks like it’ll be perfect with this summer’s teals and bronzes. 🙂
SuzyBee says
Has anybody seen any Sea Mist anywhere lately? It was like it was here and gone before I even had a chance. An Estee Lauder lady tried it on me and said how great it looks. Then when I tried to buy it, she said they were out. I havent been able to find any anywhere since. I hate her.
Lopa says
I just found one at a CCO in Leesburg, VA
Paris B says
I have Sweet Sage… or rather HAD and that looks remarkably similar. Since EL is the mother company for MAC I reckon there might be some technology transfer there. Why waste a good formula? 😉

Karen says
Hi Paris B.,
So true. Sweet Sage is one of my faves. My pot is three shakes from dead but I’m still holding on to that thing with a death grip.
Kailey says
Antique Gold…come to mama! Ivory Lace and Golden Apricot are gorgeous too. I just got $50, so off to buy these babies I go =D
or maybe I should get the MAC paint pots…
Karen says
Hi Kailey,
LOL! I felt that same come to mama feeling when I saw these colors. 🙂
Tanya says
*ears perk* TAUPE?! 😀
Blue Velvet looks beautiful, I’ve never seen a deep blue cream shadow like that before (or, maybe I’m just sheltered). Antique Gold looks so pretty too, even though it looks too warm for me (I can admire!).
Tanya´s last blog post..Half-Off Sale @ Crazy Rumors!!!!
Karen says
Hi Tanya,
LOL! I thought of you when I saw that color.
Funny, I wanted Blue Velvet for the same reason!
Stacie says
Silver Leaf, Sea Mist, and Precious Jade! Ooh, I want! (Can’t have right now, but that is beside the point!) I’m stuck unable to splurge on anything for the next few weeks, thanks to a few extra bills this time around (Uncle Sam takes a third of each paycheck, and still insists on a little more come tax time!) I’ve been trying to create new looks with the makeup I already have, but I’m beginning to think I’m addicted to acquiring things. Oh well! I can dream! 🙂
Karen says
Hi Stacie,
They’ll be around for awhile so you have time. 🙂
There’s a lot of fun ways punch up your look without having to spend lots of moolah. One of my favorites is layering eye pencils beneath shadows to create different colors and effects!
Stef says
Oooooooooooo!
Ok, I need to say more than that. But Ooooooooooo! I want Blue Velvet so badly I can hardly speak. The beauty is making the words escape me….
Stef´s last blog post..How to: have a Grey Gardens theme party
Karen says
Hi Stef,
HA! Can you imagine how fierce a smokey eye would look with Blue Velvet? *drools*
Rachael says
The close-ups make me want to touch them LOL! It’s causing my computer screen to have greasy little finger prints all over them!!! I want almost all of them but if I had to narrow it down I would have to choose silver leaf or ivory lace… I wonder if these could be used as liners? I love the blue but am thinking it would be too dark on me!
Karen says
Hi Rachael,
LOL! It is easy to have that reaction. You could totally use them as liners. Do you have a stiff angled brush or a push brush?
Katie & Zena says
Hm, Blue Velvet is making me itch for my CG Eyeslicks in Moody Blue (I heart it; it’s a pity they discontinued the line though). It’s nearly the same color. I’m sure I have a navy eyeshadow too close to that color.
I have the blues now. 😀
$17.50 is a lot of cash for something I may be allergic too though. I definitely have to go get that indigo/navy color I saw in the Covergirl make-up aisle. Cheaper and I know I won’t have blimp, itchy or red eyelids.
Karen says
Hi Katie,
I dunno if you live near a Nordstrom, but they’re pretty generous when it comes to samples. You could always have them make you one and test it out for a few days.
Kailey says
These are “come to mama” worthy! Haha.
Before I forget, normally I HATE last stupid maybelline greatlash mascara (the pink/green one). Though, my mom got the black curved brush one, and I layered some over Lash Visor. BAM. It’s not so bad! But I’m still skeptical. Maybe I was delusional in my love for my new Chanel liner, Le Crayon Yeux <3 The teak makes my eyes POP.
Karen says
Hi Kailey,
Hmm! That’s an interesting combo! I haven’t tried layering anything with Lash Visor so maybe it’s time to do some Frankenstein experiments.
I love Chanel liner, too. 🙂 So smooth and creamy!
Catherine says
Wow… that green is gorgeous. I… totally want it.
Catherine´s last blog post..I GOT MY DSK PACKAGE! 😀
Karen says
Hi Catherine,
If you don’t have MAC Sweet Sage I say go for it. You can use it with a lot of different looks. Greens, browns, golds…
Justine says
Antique Gold, Vintage Violet, and Blue Velvet are SO pretty… I wonder if they’d make good bases? I use MAC paintpots right now but these colours are so pretty too…
Justine´s last blog post..Snapshot Thoughts
Karen says
Hi Justine,
I think they would. I haven’t tried it out on my lids yet but from the swatches I took they had mad crazy staying power!
Karen B says
Oooh, looks very interesting indeed… Wonder where they got the inspiration…
Karen says
Hi Karen B.,
I’m pretty sure they picked it up from MAC. Estee Lauder owns MAC (and a bunch of other makeup companies too).
Tali says
Ooooo I prefer these to the shu uemura ones! (I like shimmer) especially the seamist, violet and vintage apricot!
I think as estee lauder owns mac. they are probably using the same paintpot formula!!
Karen says
Hi Tali,
They do! I wouldn’t be surprised if they used the same technology.
Faye says
It’s funny because I was just going to ask you if tried these, Karen. I bought them yesterday in Blue Velvet, Silver Leaf, Sea Mist, Precious Jade, Lilac Petals, and Vintage Violet. They were too pretty to resist.
For me, the biggest difference between these and the MAC Paint Pots is the consistency. I find the Paint Pots somewhat drying and hard to blend (don’t know if that’s just me). These seemed much smoother and easier to apply.
Karen says
Hi Faye,
Awesome haul, girlfriend! I feel my resistance weakening…
Hmm, do you usually peep the Paint Pots at the counter? The sample ones to seem to be drier than the ones I have at home because they’re open for a spell. At any rate, I’m glad you like these. I can’t wait to get my hands on Blue Velvet! WHEE!
Sylvie says
Doesn’t Estee Lauder own MAC? They probably just took MAC’s paint pots and stamped Estee Lauder on it.
Karen says
Hi Sylvie,
Yes, they do.

What do y’all use for a tinted moisturizer?

these look SOOOO pretty. my faves in order are blue velvet, vintage violet and sea mist! but alas I don’t really *need* any more eyeshadow, and would almost rather get some new spring shoes (Gasp-I know!)

So pretty & intense! I’ve been wearing Too Faced’s LOCKDOWNS…they are so great! Yay! for creaseless cream eyeshadows!!!

Speaking from a former EL insider…
(they are all made at the same plant)
I know that for a fact!
Paula says
I NEEEEED Lilac petals!

Faye says
Hi Karen,
You will love Blue Velvet!
Re the MAC Paint Pots, I bought a few online and was just sort of disappointed with the blending ability, so they weren’t samples. And the lids! I practically hammered them and they still wouldn’t come off. I had to get my husband to wrench them open. EL’s were much easier to open, too.
Jacka says
You inspired me to buy them all. Thanks for doing the swatches.
Merla says
Yes they can be used as liners . . . . use the eyeliner angled brush!!
These colors are amazing. . . .so are Shiseido pots!!
Michele says
Benefit has a great line of cream shadows.
Ulta has a great special going on : their beach colors are one to covet!
Have a great Sunday!

hey karen
i’ve been following your blog for awhile, and it’s really awesome. i went by my estee lauder counter today and bought antique gold, and my friend got vintage violet. they’re both super gorgeous. i also stopped by victoria’s secret and bought two of their beauty rush creme eyeshadows ($1.75 each). you should check those out because the colors are really really gorgeous, and seem to have pretty good texture so far. and you definitely can’t beat that price. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Justina,
Thanks for the recommendation! Do you wear the Beauty Rush shadows by themselves or as bases for powder shades?
Justina says
Hi Karen,
I wear them alone usually, just over a primer because my makeup tends to smear. I really like going green, it’s a really pretty shimmery light lime green.
