Before I became an illustrator/designer, I worked at Dior. It was one of my part-time jobs in college and a rewarding experience that sparked my love for fashion, luxury, and well…Dior.
I’ll always have a soft spot for the brand. I feel like they do everything with an understated (or, an amazingly dramatic!) elegance.
Their Summer 2016 Milky Dots Collection has a playfully elegant edge that I find refreshing for the classic brand, and here’s a look at some of my favorite pieces from the launch.
Dior’s eyeshadows are LEGENDARY, and the colors in the Bain De Mer 366 Palette ($63) are driving me wild! — but I don’t have the confidence to pull off a totally icy blue eye (what ’90s dreams are made of) yet, so I’ve been keeping myself content playing with the soft coral and nudes in the palette.
The coral and blues mix together beautifully on the lids where they overlap, and with them I can get a pastel lilac look that I find SO beautiful.
What it lacks in downright pigmentation, the palette makes up for in smooth textures and satiny sheens. I’m actually surprised by the quality of the two blue shades, which are the brightest, and yet the easiest, colors to work with in the palette. How often do we see that!?
The limited edition Dior 001 NudeAir Shimmering Loose Powder ($56) is the fastest way to feel like a princess. It took me a while to understand that it wasn’t designed to be used on the entire face, and let’s just say that I wore a very luminous face for a few days…
This is purely a “cherry-on-top” product that you puff onto the highest points of the face. The loose highlighter uses multi-dimensional glitters to emphasize the cheeks and bring life to any look. While not totally necessary…I think it’s a beautiful collectible item to save and use on special occasions.
Between the adorable Polka Dot Nail Duos and the breezy blues in the Bain de Mer palette, Dior’s Summer 2016 Collection is elegance and fun.

I’ll be honest, I didn’t find Dior’s summer collection very inspiring this year. I’m not really into pastel for spring, even less for summer. And since the theme was polka dots, I was expecting the eye palettes or face powders to have some kind of special packaging!

I really wish the polka dot motif was used in the packaging as well!

These do look very elegant on you. I love how colorful yet subtle your eye look is.
Anna Oh says
Thank you Chris! The formula of the eyeshadow are pretty subtle, but blend together prettily 🙂

My first impression when looking at that palette is that the blues are too bright and not my thing. But the eye look you created is lovely, very elegant and understated.
It sort of reminds me of the blue shadow look that Jennifer Lawrence wore to the Oscars the year she won. She had on that voluminous skirted blue gown and tripped on the way up to the stage.
In general I love Dior products and packaging. I wish they’d sell a silver cased, double mirrored compact with their quilted cane pattern on the cover. I’d buy several for myself, my daughter and extras as gifts.

OMG yes!!! a double mirror in that package would be FANTASTIC. I have been trying unsuccessfully to find SOMETHING from them to get that comes in that most beautiful case for awhile now, and nothing works out. All the nude air powders/bronzers are too orange in my skin, and having that patterned top on a loose box of glitter just isn’t the same thing as a the satisfying clickable compact. I thought I had finally hit the lottery when I saw the glowing gardens highlighters… and they *would* have been perfect, except I was unable to find them ANYWHERE. *sigh*
here’s hoping the Dior-powers-that-be are listening to us, because you are brilliant! 🙂

I keep nagging the counter manager at my local Dior counter about the compact. I keep hoping she’ll send the message further up the ranks.
Anna Oh says
Haha!!! The Dior packaging is SUCH a dream sometimes!!!! I have the Amber Diamond highlighting compact but I pretty much only use it as a mirror nowadays since the new highlighters coming out are on another level these days
And thank you for your kind words Tatiana

I really like the color combo in the palette as well, it is not something I have seen around a lot.

Hi Anna,
I was wondering….what mascara are you wearing? Is it Chanel?
Anna Oh says
So sorry I left that detail out! I was using the Too Faced Better than Sex Waterproof mascara!

Pastels seem to look terrible on me. I always have to swatch!
Anna Oh says
Pastels are fun to look at, but tough to wear 🙁
