Today I finally had a chance to dig into the Dior Dentalle Eyeshadow Palette (from the Dior Lace collection) that’s been teasing me for the last few days.
Normally, wild horses can’t keep me from tearing into a Dior quint, but the dainty lace patterns in Pearl Glow’s pan ($58) were keeping me at bay.
They reminded me of why I love Dior shadows… how they glide along like skates on fresh ice.
If you like the way you look in cool-toned blues and grays, you might really like Pearl Glow. The silver, grayish purple, pink, taupe and bluish gray definitely lean toward the cooler end of the eyeshadow spectrum.
Cool-toned cuties with light to medium skin, bust out your happy dance. This palette will make your eyes POP! I think pale skin really reflects the nuanced silver, pink and taupe.
But don’t fret, friends with warm undertones. You can still work it. To brighten up your eyes, try the blue, purple or taupe on the lid, and highlight the inner corner/tear duct area with the pink or silver. 🙂
Here’s the thing with Dior…
It’s HELLA expensive! There’s just no way around it. Yep, it costs a pretty penny (or two or 12), but you do get quality shadows that are easy to use, finely milled and highly pigmented. This ain’t the kind of stuff that looks chalky, chunky or cheap.
Truth be told, I like how I feel when I wear Dior. I usually think of myself as a goofy, playful chick, but I feel different when I wear Dior — more serious and sophisticated, like I should be tooling around with moguls and billionaires on some yacht somewhere instead loafing around my living room in sweats with my cat. 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. We made it over the hump, huzzah! Did you have a good day? Mine felt really long… Sorry about the blog issues lately. Everything’s safe, but it’s taking longer than I hoped to complete.
Sleep well tonight! I’m just catching up on back episodes of Heroes on Hulu with Tabs.
Paris B says
How on earth did you break into it so quickly? I took a while before deciding to touch it because it looks so pretty by itself LOL… I did do a quick look with the Pearl Glow palette and the Pink Lace highlighter blush here and I must agree with you that wearing Dior makes me feel all grown up. We’re halfway through Thursday and I can’t wait till tomorrow because that means its the weekend after that! 😀

Happy Wednesday Miss Pretty Karen!
These colors are just lovely, I think the compact would be a great gift. All of these would be so awesome for daytime smokey eyes and wedding makeup!
Are you ready for your weekend? I totally am!
.-= Vanessa H’s last blog post… BIG Shampoo? =-.
Karen says
Hi Vanessa! Yes, I totes agree on both points. The rest of the makeup from this range looks just as beautiful — pink for the cheeks and lips, and another eyeshadow palette with browns and pinks. LOVE!
I can’t wait for the weekend… is it Friday yet?
Tavia says
Dior has always great products and I must agree with Astrid about the prices when she says that Dior isn’t particularly expensive compared to most other things here. I’m from Europe too so I guess that’s just the way it is, on the other hand in the U.S. prices are a joke for me. I wish I could get them at this price here, but hey sometimes they are double here, so that’s indeed a real luxury getting great products 🙂

Karen says
That’s interesting… there’s a lot of overseas brands that are very expensive here in the US. I guess even when there’s obstacles, if a woman wants to get her hands on something, she’ll find a way!
Astrid says
A lot of overseas (for US) brands are actually cheaper in the US. It’s the weak dollar against the strong Euro and the weak buying power in general in the US I guess…plus the salaries are higher, esp in Scandinavia. We have it good up here 😀
Christy says
That palette is so pretty with all the lace, but I’m not enthused by the swatches.

Karen says
Do you prefer warmer colors?
Christy says
At least not so cool and frosty. The high frost is a bit of a turn off for me. If I do cool, I usually like a bit more color emphasis than frostiness.

Ahh, I see! Maybe you’ll like their matte shadows… they blend like a dream!
Shivotra says
love it. dior shadows are always an investment 🙂

So true! 🙂 You can’t go wrong with a lil’ Dior.
amy says
That is very pretty! I will probably pick one up soon. It is a lot of money to pay up front, but over all if you break it up it costs about $11.00 CAD per eyeshadow.

That’s not too bad! And these colors would look great on you. 🙂
noemii says
This is so pretty . but the colors [judging from the swatches] are less than exciting . but if i could, i would totally buy it purely on looks .
and i really like your handwriting ! it’s really nice . random i know, but i like & notice these things 😛
Karen says
Thanks! One of these days I’m going to turn it into a font… I’m a font freak so it’s been a nerdy dream of mine, LOL!
Have a fantastic Thursday!
noemii says
LOL ! that would be so cool ! and i would so download it ..just saying . i love me some fonts ..i went through brief phases where i would just search & search for fonts and different brushes for photoshop on the net .. but i’m a Lightroom kinda gal now .<

Karen B says
This looks just like the kind of palette that could eat away my money. Thank god I got another job 🙂 I start on Friday.
Karen says
Congrats on your new gig! What will you be doing?
Karen B says
Teaching. Mostly Dutch again but three hours of English for seventh year as well so that’ll be interesting 🙂
Astrid says
You must be used to getting everything for free in the States…Dior isn’t particularly expensive compared to most other things here. And no, it isn’t cheaper in Denmark lol! MAC is twice the price here, it’s so funny listening to people complain that they increased their prices with $0.50 or whatever 😀
Karen says
Hi Astrid and Fieran, I guess it’s all relative. It’s still very pricy compared to other cosmetics here…
Catherine says
So pretty!! I can’t wait to see an EOTD with this palette from you! I’m thinking it’s probably a little too frosty… and I’m kind of holding out to see swatches of Extase Pinks (which looks AWESOME). Then again… I think I’ll probably be starting out this year with a lot of blushes instead of eyeshadows. I really have enough eyeshadows for now LOL.

This quint is gorgeous! Thanks for your swatches. Can you do a FOTD with it? There is another quint released with this collection here, called Coquette. It is non-shimmery but I love it as well. I’m torn between which to purchase, and you are right, they are very pricey!
Fieran says
@Astrid: I sooo agree with you! Dior is relatively cheap in Norway too.
gio says
I love this palette, it’s gorgeous! The colors all look so pretty! I couldn’t bring myself to use it not to run the pretty pattern though.

Karen says
Yeah, I hemmed and hawed a long time before I finally broke into it!
NINA says
OMG! I seriously, seriously want that palette. Thing is, if I buy it, I dont think I would use it; at least not in a long while. I dont want to lose the pretty embossed design on it.
My skin tone is medium so I am guessing this palette will work for me. Its got colors that have always worked for me — and for some reason I am so drawn to that blue shade in the middle. Uh-oh … I might be in trouble.
If I do get this palette it will be my first Dior palette. What a way to break my Dior cherry!!!
Anyways – Thursday. The hump is over – yay! Its almost the weekend! Have fun and have a smashin’ day, Karen!!!
Karen says
Hey Nina! Oh, what a way to introduce yourself to Dior! 🙂 This would be a great “gateway” drug.
What do you have going on today? I’m going to try to get some work done early. If I finish in time I’ll get to go to Sephora as a treat.
Have a great day!
NINA says
I wish I could say im up to no good (i.e., Sephora-ing) … but im at work. Its report time so im kinda-sorta swamped. Took a break and checked email.
I will be at the mall this Sunday while Hubs is at jujitsu. I have a feeling that Dior and I will make our acquaintance then.
Enjoy Sephora! 😀
Karen says
Hopefully I’ll get all my stuff done… I don’t know. It’s not even 9 and it’s starting to look questionable, LOL! We’ll see.
While you are there you might want to give the new Dior Extase mascara a look too. I’m doing a review soon, but so far, so good!
NINA says
Will do, Captain Karen! 😛
Done with one report. Eleventybillion to go!
Andreea says
Love Dior, but the colours are too glitzi. Look like Barbie with’em. Helena Rubinstein has nice colours, rather boring at the first gaze, but very wearable and long lasting. But expensive 🙁
.-= Andreea’s last blog post… Spruch des Tages =-.
Karen says
Hi Andrea, This particular quint is glitzy because it’s the shimmer one; they usually have other quints that are less blingy. Their mattes are actually very smooth and wearable!
DonnaN says
Ah, I just love this collection…..my fav of everything put out in the last year.
I have never gone as far as purchasing these “high end” quads (like Dior, Chanel, etc)….I’ve always wanted to, but I think about how many MAC shadows I can get and I always pass on them….
Now, if I were to break down and buy one, should it be this one?
Karen says
I think it depends on how much you think you’re going to use it. Maybe go for a Dior quint with every day colors first? That way you will be sure to put a dent in it and get your $’s worth.
Never Enough Nails says
OMG I would never wear these shadows because the lace print is too dang cute!!!
Here’s a revelation- I think Dior is the only major make-up brand that I don’t own any products from. I just haven’t liked anything enough to take the $$$plunge. Maybe some day!

Rebecca says
I am indeed busting out the happy dance as we speak… I *love* all these colors! The price does put a damper on things… I already spend so much money on cheaper makeup, I’d go broke in a week if I started letting myself buy $60 eyeshadows 🙁 But the colors all look like they’d be totally wearable and hopefully last a long time, so maybe I’ll buy one for myself as a congratulatory present. You know, for… doing my homework, or cleaning my desk, or organizing my closet. I’m sure I’ll be able to find something 😉

Veky says
The only problem with Dior palettes is the fact that I’m not able do find ONE palette that would have ALL colors I like! There’s always one or two colors that are useless (for me).
These palettes are the same. From this one I like only 2 colors – 1st and the last one, and on the other palette I also like only 2 colors. To mix those together – that would be great! But like this? Not worth my money and especially since there’s ALWAYS one shade that’s repeating in ALL their palettes (pink, for example). I was really expecting much from this collection, especially this palette since it seemed like those shades were more petrol/olive. :/

Paula says
I love these colors for my cool light complexion, but I probably won’t be purchasing anytime soon because of the price. Karen, do you know how long is safe to keep makeup like eyeshadow palettes?
Emma says
oh i just love this!!! because i am pale i think this would look nice and highlight the freckles lol. but maybe no the most versitile?
marisol says
What a gorgeous palette!

For some reason I have issues with my Dior palette. I have one in “Twilight” and it’s really pretty, but it goes on blotchy? Not sure if that’s the right word. It doesn’t go on even and smooth, which is strange because I’ve never had that issue with a palette before. Maybe I just got a bad one? Hmm…
Ann says
oh man DROOL. gosh Makes me wish I worked in the beauty industry! love love love love ittt!!! <3
Mariah says
omgomgomg, wow… I’ve never seen a Dior palette that’s so pretty! I might be lusting after this one! Tell us you’re going to show us a look with this one!? PLEASE??
