It’s gonna be on like Donkey Kong when MAC’s Cult of Cherry collection arrives this fall. I’m gonna be all over those rich chocolates, purples and reds.
I think everything in the collection looks sophisticated and very wearable, and I’m FREAKING OUT over the beautiful color combos possible with each of the three quads.
MAC Cult of Cherry Quads
Spiced Chocolate Quad ($36)
- Nanogold: Sheer yellow pink with pink pearl (frost)
- Brash: Frosty reddish copper (veluxe pearl)
- Spiced Chocolate: Dirty deep reddish brown (matte)
- Sweet Chestnut: Frosted cranberry (frost)
Tempting Quad ($36)
- Next to Nothing: Sheer yellow beige with pink pearl (frost)
- Sharp: Frosty bright yellow gold (satin)
- Dark Edge: Dirty chocolate brown (satin)
- Tempting: Rich coco (lustre)
Shadowy Lady Quad ($36)
- Light Fall: Dirty light pink (satin)
- Smudge Violet: Frosty blackened lavender with multi-dimensional pearl (frost)
- Deep Truth: Very dark blue (frost)
- Shadowy Lady: Darkly veiled plum (matte)
MAC Cult of Cherry Lipsticks
And it doesn’t stop there. Don’t the lipsticks look divine?
- Crème Cerise: Sheer yellow taupe (lustre)
- Lightly Ripe: Sheer mid-tone pink (lustre)
- Russian Red: Intense bluish red (matte)
- “O”: Intense purplish red with metallic gold (frost)
- So Scarlet: Clean grape burgundy (amplified)
MAC rarely does wrong in my book. I love almost everything they release, but I’ve thought that several of their recent collections have been more geared toward a younger, teen audience. While releases like Naughty Nauticals, Fafi and Dazzleglass were colorful and cheeky … hot pinks, glittery glosses and teal blue eye shadows may be a bit too TRL for some.
Don’t get me wrong — I lurve fun makeup colors, but I’ve been eager for MAC to release another collection with a slightly more polished, sophisticated feel.
From the promo pics, Cult of Cherry has a 40s-bombshell-with-an-edge vibe. They make me want to bust out my fall boots, slip into a vintage dress and wrap myself up in a knee-length coat. *swoon*
I bet you’ll find me at the MAC counter with glazed eyes and drool hanging off my chin when Cult of Cherry actually arrives. Be there with me, sista?
Speaking of cherries, I used to rock out to the cult of Neneh Cherry back in the late-80s, LOL.
“We always hang in a buffalo stance…
We do the dive every time we dance”
Yup, I still know all the words, LOLOL.
How’s it going today? Have you been busy? I’ve been holding down the fort at work all by my lonesome this week, and I’m really looking forward to the weekend. I’m determined to do something fun, dammit! 😉
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Darnit, as soon as I saw this at another blog my jaw totally dropped on the floor. That Tempting quad is calling my name… and the lipsticks are totally calling my name! Ah, if only fall would come soon enough!
BTW – I blogged on Star Flash and Lustre Twins not too long ago – MAC at Nordstrom Ala Moana has been on the ball with these collections lately! Don’t know if my wallet’s going to survive Cult of Cherry, though… 😉

Hi Meimei,
Hey, we’re totally on the same page! The quads and the lipsticks are so calling my name! AHHHH!
I love that MAC counter, BTW. Do you ever go to the Pro Store?
Chess says
I’m actually most excited for the Cult of Cherry mattenes!
Karen says
Hi Chess,
They look pretty, too. Question for you — do you wear your mattenes by themselves, or do you pop gloss on top of them?
I have a few from last year’s launch and to tell you the truth I don’t reach for them often.
Chess says
Well, my hair is pretty long, and I live in Wellington, New Zealand, which is known as the “windy city” this side of the world, so lip gloss doesn’t really work for me here unless my hair is up or it’s an eerily calm day. Needless to say, normally I wear all my lipstick without gloss, and just pop a dab of balm over or underneath it for moisture and a bit of sheen (I kinda feel like for a nineteen-year-old, a full-on matte mouth, especially in a vampy colour, like the Cult of Cherry mattenes, can look a little “mature” for me).
Lehea says
Not much of a quad lover, but I might get myself a lipstick. Just not sure which one. I love how you have those 80s flashbacks. Nowadays my girls and I usually check out places that have 90s/80s music playing when we go clubbin (or in our case since we’re all over 21, loungin. Haha!).
Dao says
I want them, scratch that! I want to eat them! The colors look so yummy and tempting. This is the first time ever that I like all the quads in a MAC collection.
My accomplishment: yesterday I managed to give myself a pedicure while watching TV. That’s a big accomplishment since I don’t really care about my feet. Got some blindly blinging nail polish on and I love it! Karen, perhaps you should paint your toe nails too, it’s fun!

Russian Red will be mine!! I’m also trying hard to resist the siren call of Shadowy Lady, but I can feel it’s pull……
Karen says
Hi Chess,
Ahh, I see. Hmm, maybe I’ll have to rethink my mattenes as my windy weather lip wear. 🙂
One of these days I’ll make it to New Zealand! I’d love to see your country.
Karen says
Hi Lehea,
LOL, it’s funny to me how the 80s all of the sudden got really fabulous. I remember it being a pretty rough time in terms of wardrobe and hair choices. I pray that big hair doesn’t make a full on comeback.
Which one of the lipsticks are ya liking?
Karen says
Hi Dao,
RIGHT? Me too! Chocolate and cherries? I’m there.
It’s been a few weeks since I’ve done a home pedi (and unfortunately my toe polish reflects this). Thanks for the idea… tomorrow I’m going to try and sneak one in.
Karen says
Hi Glosslizard,
LOL, if Russian Red was good enough for Madge’s Blonde Ambition tour…
I know some might find it scary, but I prefer Russian Red lipglass just a lil’ more than the lipstick. I think it’s one of those hidden gems in the MAC line.
MiMi says
These quads r the shiznit!! Love, Love Love…um the vibrating mascara I may have to pass on, I imagine u have to have precise control and I dunno it just seems like maybe lots of practice. But hey Karen if you have a change of heart or know someone who has tried it let us know, I’m dyin to know!!!! =)
Kerry Weatherly says
lovin it all will be at the MAC counter when this is out .I love the warmth of fall colours.
meimei says
Karen, I’m planning a trip to the stand-alone Pro Store at Ala Moana when the Cherry collection comes out! I’ve been browsing in that store in and out – love the staff, the lighting, everything – but it’s been a while since I’ve dropped any money over there. I’ve also had great experiences taking my MAC empties (for Back to MAC) to the Pro Store, so I’m definitely keeping that in mind.
And on another note: Listening to “Buffalo Stance” now… and it has also prompted me to look up “Manchild” and “Buddy X” on YouTube! Ah, the memories!

Most of the time I only like 1 or 2 of the colors in quads so it’s not worth it to me to buy one but I certainly like all 4 of the colors in the Spiced Chocolate quad. My problem with darker colors is that they often times make my lids look muddy and messy. I don’t use a primer when I put on shadows, do you think that could be my problem? I was thinking I should try putting some foundation or concealer over my lids as a primer? I mostly use light and sheer shadows because I like an airy, natural look for daytime but the Spiced Chocolate has me reconsidering 🙂
Asta says
I wanted to resist but I love these quads! I told myself I could only have two but I can’t decide which one I could leave behind. My poor, poor credit card.
I’ve never pulled off a dark lip. I’ve done matte fire engine red but only on stage. I’m intrigued by the lippies but I’m also intimidated!
Miss QQ says
Hi Karen. I’m excited about CoC too, especially for Spiced Chocolate and Tempting Quad. I can’t wait to hear more about it from you from that I can make the right choices on which to buy.
Anyway, I was at the exclusive preview of Chanel Fall makeup collection. It was very exciting. The makeup artist (I forgot his name) is a French who works in Asia (Japan, Hong Kong…) and so is very familiar who Asian makeup. He was very professional, and did two looks with the new collection, one for day and one for night. He also gave precious makeup tips. I walked home happily with Gold Light, Gold Fever, Gold Fiction, and Almond Poudre Douce. I tried Gold Fever and Almond this morning and they are fantastic. Oh, Rouge Allure Enthusiast is not released here as part of this collection.
Lehea says
I feel ya on the big hair thing. I don’t get mine rebonded for nothing! I’ll probably stay in my neutral zone and get Lightly Ripe, and maybe, MAYBE, either the Tempting or Spiced Chocolate quad. 🙂
Marisol says
Girl, when does this new collection come out? Cause I am sooo there. Those quads are calling my name. I am a quad-ho! LOL I am not much of a lippie person but they look so fantastic! I already have “O” but want to check out Russian Red & So Scarlet.

Just as soon as the Starflash/Lustre Twins collections are out, you post on the one collection I’ve been anticipating for at least a month or so. I read about it a couple months ago on Specktra (thanks for telling us all about that website; it’s amazingly helpful), and I’m loving the lipsticks and lipglasses! (The promo photos there really don’t do the collection justice, though…)
Brittany says
Those quads are fabulous! I must have Spiced Chocolate. The So Scarlet lipstick is to die for too. I just recently discovered my love of colorful/dark lipstick.
Karen says
Hi Mimi,
They sure are! I can’t wait to see them in person… WHEEEEE!
LOL, I am trying to gather my strength to try it. Wish me luck!
Karen says
Hi Kerry Weatherly,
I’ll see you there, girl!
Karen says
Hi Meimei,
Did you grow up in the 80s, too? Buddy X was the JAM!
I love that store, too. When I was there in June the MUA’s let me sneak in the back to look at Cool Heat, which hadn’t been launched yet. 🙂
How do you like living in Hawaii?
Karen says
Hi Okyanus,
Ohhhh, girl. We need to get you a primer, ASAP. Seriously, it will change your life. Primers give your shadows so much more lasting power and allow you to blend colors easily.
Concealer works, but if your lids are extra oily it might lead to creasing. If you like light, airy looks then Too Faced Shadow Insurance would be a great all purpose primer. 🙂 Here’s the review.
Karen says
Hi Asta,
Red lips really pop on stage. Are you an actress?
Karen says
Hi Miss QQ,
WOW! Nice haul, lady. 😉 I wish I was there with you to watch him in action and snag a few makeup tips.
What tip was your favorite?
Karen says
Hi Lehea,
Girl, if side wings come back I’ll just DIE. I can’t do it again.
I like all of the quads but I think Tempting is my favorite!
Karen says
Hi Marisol,
I don’t have the exact date, but let me check for you.
LOL, I’m a quad-ho too, girl. *raises fist in solidarity*
BTW, Russian Red is really very beautiful. I’ve seen it on so many women and it always looks great.
Karen says
Hi Music_Is_Freedom,
You’re welcome! I’m glad you like Specktra; it’s so helpful, yah?
Anyhoo, this collection looks like it’s gonna be fab. I haven’t been this excited about a MAC release in a while, woot!
Karen says
Hi Brittany,
Nice! Was there a particular shade you fell in love with?
Elle says
Yup, I’m gonna be right there at the counter next to you, (most likely at Nordstrom’s since my favorite MA is there), wiping up the drool, come August 21st. I seriously want all of the quads and I’m dying to see what you do with them. I’m also thinking about the mattenes but I haven’t tried them yet–not a big fan of matte-y texture, but eh. I also just bought “O” to try to get a headstart on the repromotes (never tried “O” or Russian Red before) and it looks kinda weird on me–a bit more bronzy than I expected. Can’t wait for everything else though!
(I also just saw that Ewan McGregor/Charley Boorman motorcycle-trip-through-Africa documentary…well the condensed 2-hour version, anyway…and it was awesome. It unfortunately made me want to travel to Africa and donate even more money to UNICEF than I already do. Those trips he and his best friend go on are so amazing and inspiring and if y’all have Fox Reality network you should tune in this Sunday to start watching the series!)
Karen says
Hi Elle,
Thanks for the run down on that documentary. I will see if I can Tivo it. I have never been to Africa, but someday hope to go. El Hub and I have friends who are from Tanzania and they’re always trying to get us to go! I would also like hit some surf spots in South Africa too…
I am on the fence with the Mattenes! I have a few and although they are pretty I can’t help but desire a lil’ bit of shine (totally defeats the purpose). I think if I do get any more I’ll use ’em on windy days, like Chess mentioned earlier in the comments!
I wish we could all go the counter together and all freak out as a group, LOL!
Elle says
LOL, going as a group would be awesome! 😉 We’d clean up at the counter and then head out for some food. And dessert. 🙂
OK, still thinking about the Mattenes, as well as some of the ProLongwears from the Starflash collection. I don’t know why, but MAC is the only company that will make me at least want to *try* new things I usually don’t go for. I always want a little shine too!
A trip to Africa would be awesome. You and the Hub would have so much fun, and it’s always nice when you have friends in places you’d like to visit. My friend who lives in England was able to go on a safari last year and got reallllly close to gorillas in Kenya. I’ve always loved the idea of going, but seeing those pictures really made me want to go even more!
Shefali says
I’m obsessed over this collection and am DYING to buy from it. It’s the perfect color scheme for my complexion, features, and skintone. Can’t, can’t, can’t wait!
I’m determined to have a fun weekend too…this week has been full of emotional ups and downs personally and professionally. Thank goodness tomorrow is my Friday off. 3-day weekend baby!
Karen says
Hi Elle,
Oh yah! We’d have to get some sweets with chocolate and cherries. 🙂 People would ask us why we all looked so dazed and we’d reply, “We’ve joined the CULT OF CHERRY!”
I’m so jealous of your friend. A safari is one of the those once-in-a-lifetime things. Someday…
Another thing I would like to do is visit the pyramids in Egypt.
Hope you have a good Friday tomorrow. Any plans for the weekend?
Karen says
Hi Shefali,
I hear ya about riding the emotional roller coaster! Just hold on for dear life! 🙂
Woot, we both have Friday off. What are your plans?
Elle says
Ooh! Ewan and Charley go to the pyramids in Egypt! You’d love that scene. Again, nothing short of amazing. The camerawork was freakin’ awesome. And yes, the safari sounded amazing. Did you know that you can’t sneeze or cough around gorillas, since they have no immune systems? Crazy!
Mmm, cherries…haha ok I have a feeling I’m going to start craving cherries really soon!
Hope you have a great Friday too! No big plans for the weekend yet–just catching up on cleaning (let’s just say I need a new closet organization system…it’s outta control) and maybe renting some DVDs and hitting the beach if it’s not too scorchingly hot. Low-key stuff, I think. What about you?
Karen says
Well you learn something new every day! I had no idea you couldn’t do that around gorillas. But what if you have allergies? Technically I don’t think those are contagious.
Girl, have you seen my closet?
Yours is probably in 100 times better shape. 🙂
This weekend I want to do very basic things: sleep, read and eat popcorn. Oh, Tabs is going to the vet. I’m hoping that goes smoothly. I also am going to the bookstore at the crack of dawn on Saturday to get my copy of the new Stephenie Meyer book, Breaking Dawn. I can’t wait!
Marisol says
Do you think Russian Red would look good on someone who is an NC40 in MAC?

Haha, Karen, at least you have more closet space!! I also agree with you on the Container Store philosophy…sounds like a good idea, but I don’t know…it’s so pricey!
Good question on the allergies around gorillas topic…hmmm…I’ll have to ask my friend!
Have a great weekend! Let us all know how the vet visit goes 🙂

Hi Marisol,
I think you could pull it off. How comfy are you in red?
Karen says
Hi Rowena,
Oh that’s so cool! You should ROCK that with a pale eye and big false lashes!
Can’t wait to hear about your adventures with it. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Jaimie,
Me too! I’m on a 33-year long chocolate kick, too. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Ines,
RIGHT? Russian Red = hotness. You’d likey, I promise.
Karen says
Hi Elle,
The visit didn’t go too well. I’m going to have to try again next week. All I have to say is that there was some poop involved. And now the cat carrier is torn to shreds.
Hope you had a nice weekend!
Karen says
Hi Karen B.,
Aren’t they pretty? I’m really excited about all of em, too. Burn, wallet, BURN! Lol. Just kidding… kinda.
