#Realtalk: I’m riding on a huge Urban Decay Naked high right now, primarily due to Naked3, which finally went on sale online (FINALLY) today, and it’s already sold out. HOLY WOW!
If you missed it, you can sign up here to be alerted when it’s back in stock.
Needless to say, if it’s Naked, I’m on it!
Wait — that sounded a little dirtier that I thought it would.
Anywho! My reignited fire for all things Naked is why I’m extra stoked about RyGos’ abs the new Revealed Palette by Coastal Scents.
I didn’t know much about the brand before this week, only what I’d heard on YouTube. It seemed like for a hot second there, the Coastal Scents 88 Palette (with, like, every color imaginable) was hella trendy.
I recently started testing a few things from the line, and uh, yeah, so far, I’m not seeing any shortages of pigment. None of the products are too expensive, either, and the aren’t tested on animals.
So, why the Revealed palette? Well, if you eyed Urban Decay’s Naked and/or Naked2 palettes but didn’t spring due to their price ($52 each), Revealed could be an option. It’s only $19.95.
Open the cardboard packaging (it has a magnetic closure), and Revealed reveals two rows of 10 eyeshadows, for 20 total, all of them neutrals, with 16 shimmers and four mattes.
Color-wise, it’s like getting Naked and Naked2 in a single palette, and something tells me Coastal Scents borrowed heavily from both UD palettes, because many of the shades are similar.
I think it’s a valiant effort, but not an exact dupe, as UD’s shadows seem to lay down a little more pigment. Plus, their shimmers are shinier, and overall, I think they just blend a tad better (at least for me).
Of course, there is a big price difference…
Naked dupe or not, I really like these Coastal Scents eyeshadows. When I run my finger across the pans, the powders feel creamy and bunny-tail soft — there’s no grit. They don’t appear heavy on my lids, don’t draw attention to my fine lines, and I don’t sprain my wrist blending them out, either.
If you decide to work with this palette, consider doing your eyes first, as I do experience some fallout with the shimmers (but not so much with the mattes). And I’m taking FALL-OUT. Like WHOA! To deal with it, I usually end up doing my eyes first, cleaning up whatever falls on my cheeks, and then finishing the rest of my makeup.
I guess I’d be more concerned about it if I didn’t do the exact same thing with UD’s palettes, as I get a good amount of fallout from their shadows, too. On balance, it’s no big whoop.
Ya know, I like this palette, even if it doesn’t break new ground. It’s a viable option to getting Naked and Naked2, and it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.
PRICE: $19.95

Ooooh! Thanks for the heads up, Karen! I’ve been keen on trying UD’s Naked palette, and your review on the 3 was a real deal breaker. 🙂 I guess I’ll be patient and wait til the initial excitement dies down, and invest in the 3.
This looks like a nice neutrals alternative, though. And that price is pretty fantastic.

Hi Camille,
You’re welcome. 🙂 You will love Naked3 by the way. I would happily wear it every day for the next month!
Have you every worn Coastal Scents before, btw?
Trisha says
I have that trendy 88 eye shadow palette. 😉
Okay, this sounds like a really good alternative. I just can’t justify paying the big bucks for the Urban Decay palettes.
Karen says
Hi Trisha,
I know a lot of people love it. I like the idea of it but I can totally see myself getting overwhelmed with the possibilities, you know?

So glad I checked my email before work and ordered mine right away. I have never bought a naked palette before but this one is sooo pretty. Can’t wait to see it up close. I always buy individual shadows, this will be my first palette even though I have drooled over many! Thanks for all your reviews.
Karen says
Hi Sandy,
Oh, you’re welcome. Congrats on your new Naked3 palette! I hope that you love it as much as I do. 🙂

I’ve been lusting after the Naked Palettes for years, but I’m not willing to shell out the $52 for one, let alone buying both of them. I’m seriously considering the Revealed palette…could you do a side-by-side swap of the Naked Palettes and their corresponding Revealed shades?
Thank you! Love your blog!!
Karen says
Hi Kate,
Yup, it’s a pretty good deal, considering the price and quality of the shadows.
It’s not exactly a side-by-side comparison, but here are my reviews of Naked and Naked 2. There are swatches and lots of pics of both palettes there that should give you a good idea. Hope that helps.

Your makeup is spot on!

Hi Kim,
Thank you! 🙂 What eye makeup look did you wear today?

I like it but I definitely don’t need it. I am so excited that I was able to order my Naked 3 palette today but my hubby says I cannot open it till my birthday (and that’s over 2 weeks away) Btw, I like your hair like that in a pony tail.
Karen says
I’m so glad you were able to pick up Naked3! I know you were lusting after it LOL. Happy early birthday…do you have plans yet?
Oh, and thanks regarding the hair. I didn’t have time to really fix it today so half pony it was. 🙂
Agata says
No birthday plans yet, I have not been in a great mood lately so I think I will just go out to dinner with my hubby.

This seems like a really good alternative.

i love your foundation in this pic. can you tell me which brand/how you applied? 🙂
Karen says
Hi Phuongk,
Thank you! I’m using a combo of a few things from MAC and NARS. Here’s a link to a post I did recently on it:

Thanks for the review, Karen! I’ve never really been grabbed by the Naked trend, but I really love the look you put together here — it’s pretty smouldering 😉 I haven’t worn eyeshadow in months (eep), but I’ve been really feeling an itch to get back into it… maybe I’ll have to start out by duping this look!

Love Ryan’s ab reaction to the Levine supposition.

Thats such a nice palette! But I do already own the 2 naked palettes and cannot stop myself from getting the 3rd. So that should suffice for a ton of nuetrals. But such a gorgeous inexpensive option!! 🙂

OoOOooO I really like the mix of colours. I wonder if they ship to Canada…

I haven’t tried Coastal Scents yet, but this palette really looks great! I may wind up with it in my makeup collection soon even though I already ordered Naked 3 haha.

Can you compare this quality wise to the Sonia Kashuk Neutral Shimmer palette?
Anastasia says
Hey Karen… you look awesome as always. I just wanted to mention that I really enjoyed this review. While I have the original Naked palette and love it, I’ve been debating about 2 (and now 3)… the former especially because it seems to be so similar to the original.
For anyone who’s been waiting to buy this (or anything else) from Coastal Scents… huzzah! They’ve started their Black Friday sale and EVERYTHING on the site is 50%. Clicking and adding madly now. Enjoy, and happy Thanksgiving to you, Karen (and Tabs, of course!), and to all the other Yanks on here.
