OMG, but I think I lost a Friday.
I seriously lost the day. I must have set it down somewhere late last night, like between my shower and the bed, and totally forgot where. Now, it’s almost Saturday, and all I have to show for it is some holiday indulgence.
Even though I misplaced my Friday, I did find something else: Palazzo d’Oro, the newest limited-edition collection from Clarins.
With makeup products for face, eyes and lips ranging from $24-66 apiece, the limited-edition four-piece release costs considerably more than the average holiday collection, but I think it looks and feels like jewelry.
Substantial, seemingly solid gold cases housing sophisticated colors and luxurious textures — I can see them sitting atop mountains of gems and golden, silver and platinum treasure in a red dragon’s cave or some Medieval king’s treasure chamber!
In other words, if you’re in the mood to splurge, there’s *a lot* to splurge on here. 🙂
Clarins tried to channel Venetian architecture and the light of the city in Palazzo d’Oro’s shimmery gold, brown, beige and taupe palette. I don’t know how they did since I’ve never been to Venice, but I do think they succeeded in creating shades I could wear all day and all night.
What do ya think?

love the packaging and love the colors. if i weren’t such a NARS girl, i would definitely go for this!
Karen says
Hi Lorna,
Oh, it’s so easy to fall in love with NARS. 🙂
Marce says
You’re absolutely right, Karen, the day – what the heck, the YEAR! has flown by…
Hey, I can imagine some heavy duty rappers wearing these palettes off chains, LOL! 😀
There’s a lot of glamour and bling in this collection, I love it! Warm colours are sooo up my alley. I might even try recreating the models look.
Thanks for the swatches, can’t wait to see FOTD *hint hint* You have a nice weekend, take care!

Hi Marce,
Check this out — the Clarins website has a few different looks. I think I’m gonna try one of these for fun this weekend!
amy says
Alas, it is not in my budget to splurge. A nice collection, but not really my thing.

Hi Amy,
Yeah, the colors aren’t for everyone.

This week flew by! Did you hear that they canceled Dollhouse? No more Agent Ballard. 🙁
That face palette is gorgeous.

Karen says
Hi Marisol,
NO WAY!!! First Terminator and now Dollhouse?!?
blovetbeauty says

Hi Blovet Beauty,
Oh yeah — with a little D&G throw in!
Ashley says
I begin my “No Shopping for Cosmetics Ban” today… The Sparkling Wonder Volume Mascara in Black Reflection reminds me a lot of Diamond Mascara by Pure cosmetics… expect this one is a black mascara with way less glittlers & sparkles. I want both… but the stupid ban!

Karen says
Hi Ashley,
I really like this mascara a lot! You can see the sparkles, but it’s very subtle.
lauren says
those compacts are beautiful! but how is that lipstick the same one from the promo photos? her lips look like they have gold leaf on them but alone the lipstick is practically nothing.
.-= lauren’s last blog post… Twins: NYC M(AC)arbleyes =-.
Karen says
Hi Lauren,
They might’ve blanked her lips out first… or maybe they layered it like crazy on top of something. It’s pretty sheer when I wear it.
Solé says
That goldish orangey lipstick looks like one I had in the late 80s! Of course from your swatch, I can see that it’s a lot more sheer and wearable than the funky one I had at 13. Heh.
Karen says
Hi Sole,
I think my friend rocked that same lipstick back in the day, LOL!
Tavia says
Hi Karen! I only like the eyeshadow palette, those colors are usually what I wear, but the price is not my favorite:)

Hi Tavia,
It’s a splurge, for sure. I do like the packaging, though!
Anastasia says
I love the model’s look a lot but I suspect they are too warm for this ghostly girl. I too was a bit baffled by the mystery of “where did that pigmented gold lip look go on Karen!”
Love to see photos if you try one of the looks this weekend- I’ll be it will look awesome on you.
Anastasia.
Karen says
Hi Anastasia,
I’m gonna see if I can pack on that gold. Maybe if I find a shimmery pencil, hmm…
Catherine says
Oooh, the packaging looks soooo pretty! I saw this collection in store today though, and the eyeshadows were a lot grainier than I like…

Hi Catherine,
They actually apply really smooth. Have you worn Clarins shadows before?
Marisol says
I was bummed when i read that they canceled it. They will still show the remaining episodes of the season. I hope that he finds a gig soon. One where he is shirtless a lot of the times.
