Boogie nights! Keep on dancing… keep on dancing. BOOGIE NIGHTS!
Whew. Sorry, I just had to get that out of my system. It’s just that whenever I use the eyeliners from the Cargo Boogie Nights Eye Pencil Set ($18), I can’t help but burst into song (please tell me I’m not the only one who does this).
A limited-edition release for the holidays, the Cargo Boogie Nights set comes with five glittery, mini eyeliners and a sleek case that fits snugly in the palm of my hand.
- Aqua: shimmery teal with silver glitter
- Black: shimmery cool blue-black with silver glitter
- Blue: shimmery royal blue with silver glitter
- Purple: shimmery dark purple with silver glitter
- Silver: shimmery silver
Swatches from left to right: Silver, Blue, Purple, Black, Aqua
If you’re a club girl and want a very flamboyant glitter eyeliner (hey, homie, I’ve been there), then Boogie Nights might not have enough flash for you. But if you’re looking for just a tiny hint of sparkle, then you might like dig this set!
The Boogie Nights pencils require a few special steps to keep on dancing from day into night, but, thankfully, the moves aren’t too complicated. 🙂
How to Wear the Boogie Nights Eye Pencils
1. Start with a primer.
On bare lids, the Boogie Nights pencils have limited staying power when worn alone. I first tried wearing the pencils just on my upper lash line without any primer. After two hours, the color vanished and glitter scattered onto my lower lash line and my cheeks. To boost staying power to eight hours, priming my lids first with Too Faced Shadow Insurance really helps.
2. Use your fingers to warm the pencil up.
The Boogie Nights eyeliners are very firm, so softening the pencil tips first with heat creates a smoother application. A warm pencil tip glides across my lids without any tugging on my skin, and also applies with a richer, more pigmented color.
All I do is place the tip between my thumb and pointer finger, and then gently roll it back and forth until the pencil softens. Then, I apply the softened liner directly to my upper lash line.
3. Set the liner with a coordinating powder shadow.
Lastly, I apply a coordinating powder shadow or loose pigment directly on top of the line using a Sonia Kashuk Angled Eye Shadow Brush. The powder helps to lock the eyeliner in place.
A few combinations that I’ve tried and liked:
- Aqua with MAC Parrot Eye Shadow or MAC Cool Heat Eyeshadow
- Black with MAC Dark Soul Pigment or MAC Club
- Purple with MAC Odd Couple Mineralize Eye Shadow Duo
- Blue with MAC Bell Bottom Blue Pigment
- Silver with MAC Illegal Cargo Eye Shadow
I’m a little bummed that the liners aren’t of the slap-it-on-and-go variety, but a little bit of work yields very pretty results.

The 70s band Heatwave, of Always and Forever slow jam fame, sings the song Boogie Nights. Note to file: if you ever find yourself on stage with a band, avoid donning identical, tight, black and gold outfits!
I really like that the colors and subtle sparkle give me a fun way to wear glitter during the day looks without looking like a Vegas show girl!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

i really like cargo in general, and feel like it doesn’t get enough press, or have the rabid fans like some other lines, LOL. 😉 thanks for featuring them!
and argh, you mentioned dark soul again. I actually went by the lauder outlet store today to see if they had any d/c-ed pigments I wanted….they did have several, but none that interested me so I can home empty handed.

Those look fun…I just bought the Make Up Forever aqua eyes set from Sephora and LOVE them. The best purple I’ve ever used. I have brown eyes, and it seems like other than black and brown liners, I can’t find anything to looks fun but not glaring. I can truly use all of the liners in that set, either lining top lashes, water line and lower lashes. And they stay! For Real!

The Aqua with Parrot is hands-down gorgeous–kind of like when I line my eyes with Shu Uemura’s Pressed Eye Shadow in IR Blue 600 (though the website describes it as an “iridescent gumball blue”).

i have been wanting some colorful eyeliners and just today i ordered the urban decay 24/7 vip collection which is similar this set from cargo – i had tried the texture of the cargo pencils but i felt them a little too dry against my eyelids the urban decay ones went on for me atleast waay smoother

i also ordered 2 of the MIKA shu ( i like saying that sounds like a cartoon lol) palettes ordered adorned margarite and the midnight winter sakura

Hi Amanda,
AH! I want to go back there to get some MAC brushes. I may end up asking Santa, too!
Dark Soul is so fun. Seriously, you’ll use it so much… and it’ll last forever. Get it already!

Hi Tat,
Ha! Me too. There’s something about that song… I swear it just gets stuck in my head for hours.

Hi Katee,
Thanks! Do you think you might pick them up?
Karen says
Hi Amy,
Thank you for letting me know. I totally agree with you on the purple liner. It makes brown eyes look amazing. I have yet to find one that really makes me swoon so I’ll look into that set. 🙂

Hi Music_Is_Freedom,
LOL, that’s an odd description! I wish Shu would give their shadows real names. Their product naming system drives me nuts!

Hi Karen B.,
Thanks hon!

Hi Yadiq,
I know you love the colorful eye makeup so I thought you’d like these!
LOL, I thought I was the only person who liked to say “Mika Shu” over and over again. It kinda sounds like the “Pikachu” from Pokemon (oh gawd, I have no idea why I know that).
I hope they get your iPhone sitch resolved tonight! I just spoke with a photographer a few days ago and she mentioned she had the same crashing issues with hers. Mine doesn’t do that (knock on wood), but it crashes safari A LOT. At least once every session I use it.
Thanks for asking about my MIL. She had surgery yesterday, and when she came out she had El Hub call me while she was all hopped up on the surgery drugs, and then made jokes with me on the phone about her being legally loopy! They will be bringing her home today.
I haven’t really gotten all the details from El Hub because I’ve only spoken to him in snippets. Hopefully I’ll know more soon. 🙂
Thank you again for your good vibes and I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Too much glitter would be hazardous on my contact lenses. I do like colored eye liners and am thinking of getting these from UD since I have the F & F code.
