There I stood at my bathroom counter this morning, coaxing the last few precious drops out of my bottle of Clinique Mild Clarifying Lotion (a mild miracle-working exfoliator that keeps my zits in check), and marveling at a phenomenon I call, “the mustache effect.”
The mustache effect describes the mysterious appearance of upper lip hair during a particular phase of life known as, “the wonder years.”
LOL! But seriously, I actually have no idea when my ‘stach grew in. One morning it was just there, like a hungry caterpillar straight chillin’ above my lips.
For the life of me, I can’t figure out how I missed something so obvious, with all of the hours I logged as a teenage girl in front of the mirror trying to defy gravity with my bangs. I mean, literally, it was right under my nose!
Now, when something seemingly appears or disappears without warning, like the contents of my bottle of Clinique Clarifying Lotion (I didn’t even know it was running low), I say, “Ah! The mustache effect.”
I do have a point with this, and here it is: don’t become a victim of the mustache effect. Visit a Clinique counter (or wherever else you need to go) before it’s too late.
Check your bottles! And if any of them are running low, restock.
For what it’s worth, Clinique counters at Macy’s are doing a pretty sweet nine-piece gift with purchase deal from March 25 through April 14, free with any purchase of $25 or more in Clinique products at Macy’s.
“But Karen!” I think I can hear you saying, “If I get one more tube of Bamboo Pink Lipstick, I’m gonna have to kick someone with my Chuck Taylor high-tops.”
Don’t bust a move just yet, ninja girl, because Clinique lets you customize this set. You can pick your own palette and lipstick.
Prefer pink? Pick the pink pairings palette, which comes with a Pink Slate Eye Shadow Duo, Soft-Pressed Powder Blusher in New Clover and a True Bronze Pressed Powder in Sunkissed.
Or if you’re partial to purple, grab the violet pairings palette instead, which features the Twilight Mauve Eye Shadow Duo, Soft-Pressed Powder Blusher in Pink Blush and the True Bronze Pressed Powder Bronzer in Sunkissed.
As for the lipsticks, you can choose between violet Shy, and good ol’ reliable Bamboo Pink.
And get this — the set comes with not one but two makeup bags in cheerful springtime prints.
I’m particular fond of the smaller, slim bag because it’s just poifect for brushes and pencils. 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Just got a pamphlet in the mail about this! I still have 75% of a bottle of Mild Clarifying Lotion, but it’s a good time to stock up. I’m also wanting to try one of their mascaras, and get another Chubby Stick Eye Tint (it’s fab).
Karen says
I was wondering what you thought of the Chubby Sticks and hoped that you’d give them a thumbs up. Which color are you getting next? I hope they don’t crease on me.
Chelsea says
I get a tiny bit of creasing with it on its own, but I have the greasiest hooded eyes in existence.
I’m thinking about Whopping Willow.
Karen says
That one looks pretty. Ample Amber is calling my name. What are you up to this weekend? I have to do taxes (BLAH!!!).
Chelsea says
Ugh, taxes! I got my federal refund, but I had to use most of it to pay my state taxes on the scholarship I won last year (apparently research is not a qualified expense for scholarships, so it got taxed). Still, paying 10% of free money isn’t too bad.
I’m going to my cousin Dominic’s first birthday party tomorrow! My mom will be in town for it, and I’ll get to see lots of family (including other baby cousin Sophia, who is 7 or 8 months old). I bought Dominic a little board book called Snuggle Puppy.
Karen says
UGH, I know. It will be painful. 🙁 But at least I’ll be done with it.
Aw, have fun at the party tomorrow! I hope your fam will have lots of gluten-free treats on hand for you.

Oh my gosh that make up bag is so cute! I loved the Clinique Mild Facial Soap, but it’s been replaced by the Clean and Clear sensitive version 🙂
Karen says
Hi Lauren,
It’s adorable. I love the ladybugs. 🙂
Tashia says
Oh wow!!! I love this. I have not purchased anything Clinique in a while, but this gift with purchase is luring me back in again. I must resist the temptation….this is a beauty product hoarder’s kryptonite. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Tashia,
Haha, so true! I love it getting those GWP kits. They bring me great hoarding joy.
Happy Friday!
Sabriel says
Nice! I usually don’t learn about these things until they’re already over!
Seems like a great deal. I’m glad I check your blog. 🙂

I’ve only tried the Chubby sticks and some of their skincare stuff.
I see a lot of mixed reviews about their eye shadows.. are they good in your experience?
Alison M says
I am so disgusted at not having any decent department stores nearby. No Macy’s. No Nordstrom. No Bloomingdales. No GWP. Ugh.
Emi at Project Swatch says
Shy is so pretty, and I *have* had my eye on on the Chubby Stick Intense things. How do I make Chubby Stick Intense plural? Chubby Sticks Instense? Chubby Stick Intenses?
Monica P says
Ah, must go check out the Different Lipstick in Shy – now that my color!
