Benefit Velvet Eyeshadows: Swatches, Pictures and First Impressions
Tue, 04/14/2009 by Karen | Posted in: Makeup

Sometimes I like to take stock of the random things I dig…

Like, lately I’ve been hooked on wedding magazines, even though my wedding was three years ago.

And when I haven’t been pouring over cake designs and bridal flower trends (mini-cakes and lotus pods are “in”), I’ve also been into trying different stress relief teas (highly recommend Get Relaxed red tea by The Republic of Tea).

Speaking of stress relief, I’ve found that chewing gum helps me to relax and have been chewing vast quantities of Orbit Gum while reading about how to grow Heirloom tomatoes…

And on the makeup front, I’m loving Benefit’s new Velvet Eyeshadows ($18).

Benefit designed the nine shimmery shades for easy application.
They arrive in June, but I’ve tested six of the colors, and first things first: I can’t believe how silky and non-gritty the powders feel.
Their intense pigmentation and shimmer reminds me of Shu Uemura’s Eyeshadows but in cheekier, more lively packaging.

Leggy Velvet Eyeshadow

I think these are so pretty and cannot wait to layer ‘em on top of some Creaseless Cream Shadows!
What do you think of them so far?

The packaging is identical to Shu’s (except for the colours), I’m really surprised at how Where’s There’s Smoke looks swatched it dosen’t seem to match the one pictured at all. They look promising though!

Oooh I really like those eyeshadows. The first four, especially.
I also got that Knot mag in the mail for some reason. I got married last year and somehow can’t fathom going without my wedding blogs. I’ll just have to throw another big party…

Love ‘em. Really rich looking and totally beautiful. It looks like great color payoff too.
What the picture with all of them? Is that a tester or is there a palette with all of them?

The six shades of stunning. When are you going to swatch the other three? Dandy brandy is a stunning brown/gold/bronze. It’s beautiful.

Those are pretty nice, I will for sure check them out! Some of the nicer Shopper’s Drug Mart’s here in Canada have started carrying Benefit.
I like the mini list of things that interest you, tea and heirloom tomatoes could use a post of their own!

WOW! Where’s the smoke = LOVE. I’ve always wanted to try those teas from the Republic of Teas. I think perhaps “Get Gorgeous.” We could all use a little gorgeous in our lives, don’t we?

They’re very pretty (I’m drooling a little thinking of layering Where There’s Smoke over Skinny Jeans), but I wish Benefit would take on some really bold colors like they used to! These are all very safe and low-key and I think I already have similar colors to all of these!

Those eyeshadows are gorgeous! I can’t wait for them. That is too funny that you posted a picture of Strawberry Mint gum…I bought that this morning at the grocery store! It’s good stuff.

My jaw is on the FLOOR!! Those look absolutely gorgeous!! Where There’s Smoke definitely looks like the winner of the bunch. Oh, and looks like they’re resurrecting Buckle Bunny!! I remember that came out a LONG time ago with a Cowboy/Cowgirl-themed collection.

Wow! I think the Benefit velvet eyeshadows are awesome. But if you will be only getting them in June, then I don’t know when they’ll arrive in Malaysia?? I like them all esp Bikini line, and like what you sea?

Oooh, beautiful! I dig Leggy and Where There’s Smoke a lot.
Also, growing tomatoes is so much fun — I grew several different types last summer from little $1 or $2 plants I got at the farmer’s market, and I had delicious organic (because I was too lazy to spray or feed them) tomatoes all summer long. There’s almost nothing better than fresh-picked tomatoes all warm from the sun!

I’m chewing Orbit’s Sangria Fresca. It doesn’t help me relax like classical music does, which I rediscovered recently, but I do love the taste. I really like ‘Like What You Sea?’ I’m going to have to try not to buy that. Ha!

yeah leggy and where there’s smoke may have permanent rotation in my makeup case this summer! right now i’m loving pink and grey shadow maybe it’s a throwback to my favorite nikes when i was a kid – grey nikes with a pink swoosh…

Leggy and “Gimme Se” Plum please!! I think my eyes would like those eyeshadows on them. =P
I haven’t had my wedding yet (married in civil ceremony), but it’s been a while, and I don’t think I can handle that sort of stress! The “omg I must lose weight to look good in my gown!” to “WHO PUT THOSE 2 AT THE SAME TABLE? THEY HATE EACH OTHER!”
Not something I want to think about yet.
